Day 1 of Event #59: $1,000 Super Seniors No-Limit Hold’em is in the Books

It was a cheerful day at the World Series Of Poker from its new home at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas for Event #59: $1,000 Super Seniors No-Limit Hold’em.

Players had to be 60 years of age to play and there were lots of stories and comradery among the field. By day’s end, there were 2,669 entries and 727 advanced to Day 2.

There was $2,375,410 generated in the prize pool, 401 players will be paid at least $1,601 and first-place will receive $330,609, as well as the gold bracelet.

The remaining players will return for Day 2 on Wednesday, June 29, for a 10:00 a.m. restart in Bally’s Gold and Silver section.

Jean-Luc Adam (126,000) from France is the reigning champion and he bagged nearly double the chip average.

PT Hayes (280,300) bagged one of the biggest stacks in the room. He clashed with fellow chip leader Bill Klein early in the day and never looked back.

Other players to bag include actor and poker player James Woods (175,500), Jeff Bond (110,000), Eric Vanderburg (145,000), Kent Buckingham (99,000), Everett Carlton (106,000), Dan Shak (79,000) and Poker Hall Of Fame member Jack McClelland (37,000).

The structure for Day 2 will be similar to Day 1. There will be 60-minute levels and there will be 20-minute breaks after every two levels. Play will end after Level 20, with a dinner break around 7:00 p.m. local time.

Two-time WSOP bracelet Steve Zolotow was spotted just after the break.

Zolotow shoved his 17,000 preflop from early position and he found no takers to take down the pot.

He has more than $3,200,000 in earnings including a fourth-place finish in 2021 for $99,000 in the $2,500 No-Limit Hold'em Freezeout.

Buckingham Rockets Up the Leaderboard

A big pot was brewing just after dinner for Kent Buckingham.

He was a facing a bet on a queen-high flop from the player on the button and he raised it up to 15,000. The button called and the turn brought the {5-Spades}. Buckingham wasted no time moving all in for 58,500 and the button tanked.

After eyeing his cards and chips repeatedly, the button called.

Buckingham was in a great spot with his over pair against top pair, top kicker. The river brought the {7-Hearts} and Buckingham scored a huge double in the early minutes after the break.

PT Hayes, as he's known by, raised to 4,300 from early position and a player from middle position called. The action was on Bill Klein on the button and he made it 18,000 total. Only Hayes called.

Hayes checked-called the {4-Spades}{9-Hearts}{3-Spades} flop to see the {q-Spades} turn. Hayes checked again and Klein moved all in about approximately 60,000 and Hayes called with the bigger stack.
