Some 1,700 players continued their journey after the fields from Day 1a and 1b were combined, with many notable names making a deep run. The total of 7,962 entries created a prize pool of $10,627,935, and the top 1,195 spots earning a minimum payout of $2,400. The champion will earn the coveted WSOP gold bracelet along with the top prize of $1,125,189.

The 2016 WSOP Main Event champion Qui Nguyen was eliminated late in the night, as were Veronica Brill and Faraz Jaka after they were knocked out on the same hand by Cahill. Jerod Smith bagged a healthy stack after hitting a three-outer to save his tournament life.

The bubble burst early in the day, and the knockouts came at a furious pace immediately. Among the notables to find their way into the money were Ryan Laplante, Landon Tice, Dylan Linde, Vanessa Kade, Alex Foxen, Nadya Magnus and Jessica Teusl.

Day 3 begins Monday at 10:00 a.m. local time with ten 60-minute levels to be played, including a 60-minute dinner break after Level 27.

As always, the PokerNews live reporting team will be there every step of the way on the road to crowning the WSOP’s newest millionaire.

Seamus Cahill

Towards the end of the night, the eliminations kept on coming as the field was whittled down to fewer than 250 contenders. Among the casualties were also Veronica Brill and Faraz Jaka on an action-packed table and they sent their stacks over to Seamus Cahill.

Brill had been all-in for around 450,000 and Jaka had more at his disposal but both were covered easily by Cahill as one of the big stacks on the table.

Veronica Brill: {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}
Faraz Jaka: {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}
Seamus Cahill: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}

The board ran out {8-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Clubs} and both Brill as well as Jaka headed to the payout desk.

Reis Eliminates Opponent With Nut Flush

Nível 20 : 10,000/15,000, 15,000 ante
Rafael Reis
Rafael Reis

Joining the action three-ways to a flop of {j-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}, action checked to the button who bet 45,000. Rafael Reis was in the big blind and raised to 200,000. The third player folded and the button called.

The turn was the {10-Hearts} and Reis checked to his opponent. The button bet 175,000 and Reis raised to 300,000 putting his opponent all in. The button called off.

Rafael Reis: {a-Hearts}{4-Hearts}
Button: {9-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

The button was drawing dead as his straight couldn't beat Reis's nut flush. The {2-Hearts} river was irrelevant.

Rosen Among the Biggest Stacks in the Field

Nível 20 : 10,000/15,000, 15,000 ante
Oren Rosen
Oren Rosen

A short stack was all-in for a mere 130,000 and Oren Rosen flat-called from one seat over while the rest of the table folded.

The player at risk revealed the {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs} and Rosen had the superior {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds}. Despite a mighty sweat on the {5-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} board, the ace was good enough to score the knockout and Rosen then started receiving a massage for the business end of the day.

Flowers! Mizrachi Convinces Keating to Call River Overbet

Nível 19 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Michael Mizrachi
Michael Mizrachi

Alex Keating opened to 28,000 from late position and Michael Mizrachi called from the button.

The flop came {3-Clubs}{k-Spades}{5-Diamonds} and Keating continued for 25,000. Mizrachi called.

Both players checked it down on the {a-Clubs} turn but on the {2-Clubs} river, Keating checked and Mizrachi bet 210,000 into a 136,000-chip pot, leaving roughly 150,000 chips behind.

Keating then went into the tank for roughly five minutes. During this time, the two engaged in table talk, with Mizrachi promising that Keating would be sorry if he called.

Keating then exclaimed how he originally thought Chance (Kornuth) was the best table talker but now believed it was Mizrachi.

After saying he knew he'd be wrong whether he called or folded, Keating called. Mizrachi beamed and shouted "Flowers" and turned over the winning {7-Clubs}{5-Clubs}.

Martinez Busts Eisen and Finlayson

Nível 19 : 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Raul Martinez
Raul Martinez

Brandon Eisen raised on the button to 25,000 and Daniel Finlayson responded with a shove for 229,000 in the small blind. Raul Martinez in the big blind called and then also instantly called when Eisen pushed for more than 530,000 total.

Daniel Finlayson: {2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}
Brandon Eisen: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Raul Martinez: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

"I like the deuces here," Jerod Smith said and he knows from experience what it means to get there with the inferior hand preflop on the very same table. Sure enough the deuces improved on the {9-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop but Martinez regained the lead on the {8-Hearts} turn.

The board didn't pair anymore but the meaningless {q-Clubs} river also gave Martinez a set of queens on top of his flush to secure the double knockout.

From the hijack position, Veronica Brill and her opponent in the cutoff got into a betting war pre-flop and all of Brill's 366,000 ended up in the middle with the cutoff calling her off.

Veronica Brill: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Cutoff: {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}

The board ran out {j-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} and Brill enjoying doubling up to nearly 76 big blinds.

Despite registering for the tournament with 15 minutes before registration closed, she's managed to take her stack to over 750,000 on Day 2 with fewer than 500 players remaining.

Smith Dominated Pre-Flop, Wins All-In Anyways

Nível 18 : 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Jerod Smith
Jerod Smith

Jerod Smith opened from the button and the small blind three-bet into him. Smith shoved his 296,000 chips and the small blind snap-called.

Jerod Smith: {a-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Small Blind: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}

Smith was calling for his 'Plan B' to come through before the {10-Clubs}{8-Spades}{2-Diamonds} flop. "There's my Plan B."

The {3-Diamonds} graced the turn to give the small blind a flush draw. However, Smith faded everything on the {j-Hearts} river and was able to double up to over 600,000.

Abdella had the best of it heading into the showdown but that all changed on the {q-Clubs}{9-Spades}{8-Hearts} flop. No help arrived on the {3-Diamonds} turn and {4-Spades} river and Abdella's tournament came to an end.

Palma Sends Schwartz to the Rail

Nível 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Jake Schwartz
Jake Schwartz

Three ways to the {k-Spades}{4-Spades}{2-Diamonds} flop, Jake Schwartz checked out of the big blind and then faced a bet worth 15,000. Nick Palma raised to 43,000 and Schwartz jammed for the last 148,000 he had behind to force one fold. Palma, however, instantly called.

Jake Schwartz: {k-Hearts}{3-Hearts}
Nick Palma: {2-Hearts}{2-Spades}

"You got it, nice hand Nick," Schwartz almost immediately said even before the {8-Diamonds} turn and the {q-Clubs} river completed the board. Palma replied with a "I could have some random shit, too" before raking in the pot which brought him to nearly seven figures.
