Day 2 of Event #2: $100,000 High Roller Bounty at the 2022 WSOP at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas saw fast-paced action that narrowed down a field of 16 to 5.
Play lasted just five levels with a flurry of eliminations within the first few minutes of action, including Laszlo Bujtas, Frank Crivello and Bill Klein.
Chance Kornuth began what turned out to be a day-long heater with a huge double through day 1 chipleader Justin Young, courtesy of a rivered straight. From that point on, he seemed unstoppable, eliminating the likes of Daniel Negreanu and Matthew Steinberg, ultimately bagging a stack of 14,265,000 good for 143 big blinds. Other players returning for Day 3 include David Peters (8,920,000), Ali Imsirovic (1,815,000), Dario Sammartino (1,740,000) and Koray Aldemir (860,000).
Rank | Player | Chip Count | Big Blinds |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Chance Kornuth | 14,265,000 | 143 |
2 | David Peters | 8,920,000 | 89 |
3 | Ali Imsirovic | 1,815,000 | 18 |
4 | Dario Sammartino | 1,740,000 | 17 |
5 | Koray Aldemir | 860,000 | 9 |
Of the initial 46 runners only seven were paid and it was Nick Petrangelo who was the unfortunate bubble boy with his pocket kings being cracked in brutal fashion by the pocket eights of Phil Ivey. It was Ivey who was the first finisher to get paid, his seventh place finish good for $133,127.
The relatively unknown Matthew Steinberg was next out, scoring a $180,872 payday, blowing his previous best cash of $2,125 out of the water.
That saw the table reach the final five players who will return Thursday, June 2nd at 1pm PDT for Day 3. The final day will be livestreamed on PokerGO on a 1-hour delay. Pokernews will also be providing updates on the same delay as the tournament plays down to a winner, who will receive a WSOP Gold Bracelet and $1,166,810 for their efforts.

"It's my biggest cash ever," Steinberg said to his tablemates. "My biggest cash before this was like $5,000." He also told them he planned on playing the $25,000 heads-up on June 2.
With that hand Kornuth took over the chip lead as the final five players bagged up for the day.

David Peters opened to 200,000 on the button and was met with an all-in three-bet from Phil Ivey in the small blind for approximately 2,700,000.
Dario Sammartino folded his big blind and with action back on Peters, he called in search of a high-profile bounty.
Phil Ivey:
David Peters:
The flop was great for Peters, bringing him not just one, but two jacks on .
The turn and river
couldn't save Ivey, and he was the first player ousted in the money.

Nick Petrangelo from under the gun shoved his remaining 535,000 into the middle and was looked up by Phil Ivey one seat over. The rest of the table folded.
Nick Petrangelo:
Phil Ivey:
Petrangelo was at risk but way ahead. The provided little help for Ivey but the
did give him an open ended straight draw. The
completed Ivey's straight and Petrangelo was ousted on the tournament bubble in gut wrenching fashion.

Chance Kornuth raised from early position to 200,000. Action folded to Koray Aldemir in the cutoff who shoved his remaining 305,000 into the middle. The other players got out of the way to send the action back to Kornuth who called to put Aldemir at risk.
Koray Aldemir:
Chance Kornuth:
Aldemir was in a good position to double up and avoid bursting the bubble. He did just that, fading Kornuth's outs on the runout to get back to just above starting stack.

Since David Peters joined Chance Kornuth atop the chip counts, the two haven't been afraid to mix it up with each other a bit on the bubble.
After Kornuth opened to 160,000 in early position, Peters called in the cutoff.
On a flop of , Kornuth continued for 170,000. Peters then methodically cut out a raise and put forward 460,000 chips.
Kornuth folded to minimize the damage, but this won't be the last time we see these high roller titans collide.
