Bracelet Winners Abound as Bariscan Betil Leads the Way After Day 2

Play has concluded on Day 2 of Event #17: $2,500 Mixed Triple Draw Lowball, at the 2022 World Series of Poker, and after 10 hour-long levels, it is Bariscan Betil who leads the remaining 17 players into the final day with 1,190,000. Betil, a native of Philadelphia, had just one World Series of Poker cash on his resume. It came as a result of a 44th place finish in this event in 2019. Now he has another at the WSOP's new home at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas.

Behind him are a plethora of bracelet winners and top pros hoping to dethrone him at the top of the counts and claim another piece of WSOP jewelry. Former November Niner Jerry Wong sits in second place at 1,140,000. Andrew Brown (1,010,000), Frank Kassela (750,000), Matthew Schreiber (740,000), John Monnette (600,000), and Alex Epstein (475,000) are also in contention.

Further down the leaderboard and heading to Day 3 on short stacks are Daniel Strelitz (425,000), Galen Hall (310,000), and WSOP veterans Steve Zolotow (135,000) and Ralph Perry (80,000). Hall admits he had never played A-5 or Badugi before this event but has navigated his way to the final two tables.

Day 2 began with 134 players remaining out of a starting field of 309. The first goal of the day was to make it to the money, a feat that eluded the likes of Scotty Nguyen, Shaun Deeb, and Brandon Shack-Harris. Once the bubble burst and the final 47 players were in the money, Day 1 chip leader James Opie (45th), Robert Campbell (37th), German soccer star Max Kruse (36th), and Daniel Negreanu (33rd) would all find themselves making the walk to the payout desk.

A $164,243 first place prize awaits the winner on June 10. Play resumes at 2 p.m. local time inside the Bally’s Event Center, so stay tuned to PokerNews for all the live updates and chip counts until a new champion is crowned.

Sarle Sends Su to the Rail

Nível 20 : 20,000/40,000, 0 ante
Jason Su
Jason Su

Jason Su limped in from the small blind and Domnick Sarle checked his option from the big blind.

On the first draw, Su drew three and Sarle drew four. Su bet and Sarle called.

On the second draw, Su took one card and Sarle asked for two. Su committed the last of his chips, less than a full bet, and Sarle called.

Su drew one on the final draw and Sarle stood pat. Su had {8-}{7-}{5-}{2-} / {x-}, but Sarle tabled {8-}{5-}{4-}{3-}{2-} and Su tapped the table and made his way for the payout desk when he saw that he was drawing dead for his tournament life.

Hall Saved From Having a Heart Attack

Galen Hall
Galen Hall

A-5 Triple Draw

Galen Hall raised from under the gun and both Daniel Strelitz on the button and small blind Philip Eisman called.

"I predict this could be a big one," tablemate Frank Kassela said as he rose from his seat.

Hall bet after drawing one and Strelitz called. Eisman check-raised and both opponents called.

He stood pat while Hall took one and Strelitz two. Only Hall called a bet after the second draw as Eisman stood pat again.

Hall took one and Eisman checked. Hall took the opportunity to bet and Eisman snap-called, announcing "7-6 perfect."

"No good," the WSOP bracelet winner said, turning over 6-5-3-2-A to win the pot.

After the hand, Hall admitted he almost misread his hand and thought he had two deuces. "I almost had a heart attack. It wouldn't be the first time I did that today," he said, relieved that he got to stack the chips.

Kassela Won't Be Here in 2040

Frank Kassela

A-5 Triple Draw

If you stand near tables at the WSOP, you're likely to hear the players' impressions of the brand new venue, and as the Series nears the two-week mark, those impressions are overwhelmingly positive.

"Get comfortable because I don't think we will be moving again until 2040," said Brandon Cantu as the dealer made his way around the table for a hand of A-5 Triple Draw.

"We don't want to," another player said.

"I won't be playing in 2040," said Frank Kassela, prompting a laugh from the rest of the table.

"I call," responded Daniel Strelitz, doubtful that Kassela will find a reason to retire.

The table discussed how old they will be in 2040, and a few players made plans for the Seniors Event. Others were less optimistic about the geopolitical realities of a 2040 WSOP.

"We'll be playing for water rations and bullet casings," predicted Galen Hall.

Philip Eisman raised from under the gun and Jeff Lennon called from the next seat over. Kassela three-bet from the big blind and both players tossed in chips to call.

Kassela stood pat, Eisman drew two, and Lennon took one. Kassela bet and both players called.

After Kassela stood pat once again, both Eisman and Lennon took one. Kassell bet and both players called again.

On the final draw, Kassela remained pat and the other two players asked for one card. All three checked the final draw and Kassela turned over {8-}{7-}{6-}{5-}{4-}. The two losing hands went into the muck and Kassela picked up the pot as Day 2 enters the final turn.

Stone Fails to Draw Good

Badugi

Heads-up on the second draw, Edward Suh and Kim Stone each drew one. Suh bet, then called when Stone moved all in for 21,000 more.

Suh stood pat and turned over {9-Clubs}{6-Spades}{7-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}. Stone took one and showed {a-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}.

"Is she drawing dead," a tablemate asked.

"No, she needs a spade," another answered.

Stone did turn over a black card, but it was the {10-Clubs} and she was eliminated in 30th place.

After the hand, Suh said that this is the first tournament he has ever played in, and he's making the most of it.

2-7 Triple Draw

"I guess I'm out," Daniel Negreanu was heard saying as he got up from his seat and made his way to the exit, his camera in tow and running.

According to his former tablemates, it was Steve Zolotow who dealt the final blow. "Guilty as charged," Zolotow said.

Zolotow said he made a wheel on the second draw and Negreanu broke a 10 already drawing dead. That ended Negreanu's tournament, but he did collect his first cash of the 2022 WSOP.

Larry Tull and Robert Campbell traded raises until Campbell was at risk for his last 28,000.

Both players took two on the first draw. Tull stood pad for the second and third, while Campbell picked two each time.

Tull turned over {9-}{7-}{6-}{5-}{2-} and took the pot with the number 31. Campbell showed {10-}{8-}{5-}{3-}{2-} before he wished the table luck and made his way for the door.

Bariscan Betil raised from the cutoff before Yuebin Guo re-raised all in from the button. Betil called and drew two on all three draws.

Guo drew one until the final draw when he stood pat and showed a 10-low. Betil had A-2-7 before flipping over a nine.

"Sorry," he told Guo when his last card turned out to be a three as Guo made his exit just before the dinner break.

Galen Hall

2-7 Triple Draw

On the first draw, Yuebin Guo bet, Galen Hall raised, Lylan Do called, and Guo put in a three-bet.

Both opponents called and took one, while Guo stood pat and bet again. A raise by Hall was enough to get rid of Do, but Guo stuck around as both players stood pat.

Hall bet out again and Guo went into the tank for about a minute before throwing his chips toward Hall, acknowledging he was probably beat.

His instincts were correct. Hall showed a 7-6-5 low and Guo mucked his hand.

At the same table, former November Niner Jerry Wong has built up a big stack of more than 300,000.

A-5 Triple Draw

WSOP bracelet winner Galen Hall admits he had never played A-5 or Badugi before this tournament, but that hasn't stopped him from climbing to the top of the leaderboard.

On his last hand, Hall, Lylan Do, Luis Velador, and Max Kruse went four-ways to the first draw. Hall took three, while his opponents all took two.

Everyone checked and took two on the second draw. Action checked to Kruse on the button who bet and only Hall called.

Both players took one and Hall led out. Kruse called but mucked when Hall showed {j-Clubs}{5-Spades}{a-Spades}{6-Spades}{2-Clubs} to take the pot from the soccer star.
