A New World Series of Poker Main Event Champion Will be Crowned

The Final Three
The Final Three

Out of a field of 6,650 total entries, only three contenders remain in the hunt for the title in the 2021 WSOP Main Event. The biggest slice of the $62,011,250 prize pool will be up for grabs today and the next world champion will earn the top prize of $8,000,000.

Germany's Koray Aldemir retained his role as the overwhelming chip leader heading into the nine-handed final table and leads the trio of hopefuls by a wide margin. He returns with a stack of 264,600,000 and that represents more than his two final opponents have at their disposal combined.

After a dramatic end to Day 8 the previous evening, the UK's Jack Oliver claimed the second-biggest stack of 77,300,000 while Atlanta, Georgia's George Holmes returns with 57,400,000 in chips. While he is the shortest stack, Holmes still has 36 big blinds worth when the action resumes at 2 p.m. local time at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.

Jack Oliver Eliminated in 3rd Place ($3,000,000)

Nível 40 : 1,000,000/2,000,000, 2,000,000 ante
Jack Oliver
Jack Oliver

Hand #168: Jack Oliver jammed for 35,700,000 in the small blind and Holmes in the big blind asked for a count. After one minute and 11 seconds of consideration, Holmes made the call.

Jack Oliver: {a-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}
George Holmes: {q-Spades}{j-Spades}

The {8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{5-Spades} flop kept Oliver in the lead with a pair of eights but the {j-Clubs} turn improved Holmes to the superior pair.

Nothing changed on the {9-Hearts} river and that spelled the end for Oliver in third place. He takes home $3 million for the efforts and there will now be a short break before heads-up play gets underway.

Hand #175: George Holmes raised to 4,000,000 from the button and Koray Aldemir defended. They both checked through the {5-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{k-Spades} flop to the {9-Diamonds} on the turn. It was checked again for the {9-Clubs} to complete the board. Aldemir showed the {a-Hearts}{3-Clubs} for Holmes to table the {a-Clubs}{6-Spades} for the higher kicker to claim the pot.

Hand #176: Aldemir raised to 4,600,000 from the button and Holmes called. The {k-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{q-Hearts} was fanned out on the flop. Holmes check-called the 3,400,000 continuation-bet of Aldemir. The turn was the {k-Spades}, Holmes checked again.

This time, Aldemir did the same to see the {9-Spades} complete the board. Holmes took 39 seconds and then bet 9,000,000. Aldemir called to see the {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs} of Holmes who had a full house for Aldemir to muck.

Hand #183: George Holmes raised to 4,000,000 and Koray Aldemir filled up to see the {9-Spades}{5-Hearts}{2-Clubs} flop, which went check, check. On the {5-Diamonds} turn, Aldemir bet 4,000,000 and Holmes folded.

Hand #184: Aldemir opened to 4,600,000 on the button and Holmes defended. The flop brought {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{3-Clubs} and Holmes opted to check, Aldemir bet 2,400,000 and received a call. After the {k-Spades} turn, both players checked to the {7-Clubs} river and Holmes checked once more. Aldemir bet 8,000,000 and won the pot without showdown.

Hand #185: Holmes min-raised the button and Aldemir called. The {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} flop was checked and the {q-Diamonds} followed on the turn. Aldemir now bet for 5,200,000 and Holmes called as the {j-Diamonds} fell on the river. The check by Aldemir was followed by a check from Holmes who flashed the {k-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} for a flush with the four. However, Aldemir had the {9-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} for a straight flush to win the pot.

Hand #193: George Holmes limped in on the button but Koray Aldemir raised it up to 8,500,000 to get the fold.

Hand #194: Aldemir raised to 4,600,000 from the button and Holmes defended. The flop came down with the {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}{7-Clubs}, Holmes checked and so did Aldemir. The {8-Spades} on the turn didn't bring any betting action either so the {k-Hearts} completed the board. They both checked again. Aldemir showed the {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for the ace-kicker to claim the pot.

Hand #195: Holmes raised to 4,000,000 and Aldemir three-bet to 17,000,000. Holmes called.

The flop came {7-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{a-Spades}, Aldemir took a minute and barreled a bet of 10,000,000 out, Holmes raised it up to 28,000,000 after thinking about it for 44 seconds. Aldemir called after 47 seconds.

The turn was the {6-Spades} and Aldemir checked. Holmes did the same for the {8-Spades} to complete the board. Aldemir tanked for 74 seconds and then bet 9,000,000. Holmes raised to 24,000,000 after considering it for a minute. Aldemir called but Holmes held the {a-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for two pair and the big pot.
