A full 10 levels were completed on Day 1 of Event #44: $3,000 6-Handed Limit Hold'em that saw a total of 162 players take to the felt. By the time all was said and done, only 78 players bagged up chips with Ray Henson leading the charge. Henson ended the day with a total of 243,000 chips, the only player with a stack over 200,000.

Henson has racked up five total cashes thus far through the 2021 World Series of Poker, including a final table appearance in the $1,500 Dealer's Choice event where he finished in third place. Henson is still seeking his first-ever WSOP gold bracelet and he has put himself in a good position to get the job done.

Some other big stacks to end Day 1 include Kevin Klassen (183,500), Anna Wroblewski (146,000), Anthony Zinno (138,000), and Jesse Lonis (122,500). Zinno has already doubled his number of WSOP bracelets this year with a total of four now and is currently in second place in the Player of the Year race.

By the end of late registration, there were plenty of familiar faces that took their shot with a 40,000 chip starting stack but not all were lucky enough to make it through. Some of those to hit the rail throughout the day include Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Maria Ho, Jeremy Ausmus, Shaun Deeb, and Ryan Leng.

The action will resume at 2 p.m. tomorrow inside the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino. The blinds will begin at 1,500/2,500 with another 10 levels on the schedule. The money bubble should be expected to burst mid-way through the day with the payouts and prize pool being confirmed by the start of play.

Somerville Nearly Doubles

Nível 10 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante

Jason Somerville raised it up on the button and was called by the big blind. The flop came {10-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} and the big blind checked to Somerville who continued with a bet. His opponent called and the {a-Diamonds} landed on the turn.

Somerville bet again and his opponent still called to see the {j-Diamonds} on the river. Somerville barrelled a third time, leaving just a few chips behind. His opponent paid him off and Somerville rolled over {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds} for the nut flush.

Sokoloff and Steinbach Heading in Different Directions

Nível 10 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante

Kris Steinbach raised from under the gun and was called by the player on his left. Paul Sokoloff re-raised from the cutoff and both of his opponents called. The flop came {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{4-Hearts} and the action checked to Sokoloff who bet. Steinbach and his other opponent still called to see the {a-Spades} on the turn.

It checked to Sokoloff again and he fired in another bet. Steinbach folded this time but the other player stuck around for the {q-Clubs} on the river. Sokoloff fired one more time and his opponent thought for a moment before mucking his cards. Sokoloff showed {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} as he dragged in the pot.

Ausmus Joins the Rail

Nível 10 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante
Jeremy Ausmus
Jeremy Ausmus

There was a raise from the cutoff and Tu Dao three-bet on the button. Jeremy Ausmus four-bet from the small blind and only Dao called. The flop came {7-Hearts}{5-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and Ausmus stuck in his last 2,500 chips which Dao called.

Jeremy Ausmus: {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}
Tu Dao: {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

Ausmus was in a good position to double up but the {8-Hearts} on the turn and the {2-Hearts} on the river gave Dao a flush, sending Ausmus to the rail.

Martini Continues to Climb

Nível 10 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante

Julien Martini was one of the last entries in the tournament, taking his seat with a fresh stack of 40,000 chips just over an hour ago. However, Martini has quickly put his chips to work and racked up one of the largest stacks in the field.

With the board reading {10-Spades}{7-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}, Martini had a bet in front of him and was called by the small blind and Michael Coombs in the big blind.

The river was the {8-Hearts} and the blinds checked to Martini who bet again. The small blind called and Coombs folded. Martini turned over {q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} for two pair and raked in the pot.
