Haas Bet-Folds River to Levy

Adam Levy bet 7,000 into 9,000 from the button on {9-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{7-Clubs} only to have Donald Haas check-raise out of the big blind to 17,000. Levy peeled and the {10-Spades} hit. Haas bet 18,000 and Levy splashed in a raise to 48,000. Haas thought about 90 seconds and mucked.

Vijayaratnam Picks Up an Early Pot

Jesse Smith raised it up from the cutoff and Senthuran Vijayaratnam defended from the big blind. The flop came {9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} and both players checked to the {4-Clubs} on the turn.

Vijayaratnam led out for 2,500 and Smith called to see the {6-Diamonds} on the river. Vijayaratnam fired out another bet of 6,000 and Smith peeked back at his cards before calling. Vijayaratnam turned over {j-Spades}{9-Spades} for two pair and Smith sent his cards to the muck.

Laufer Wins One

Andreas Hagen raised to 2,000 on the button and Michael Laufer called from the small blind.

A flop reading {9-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Hearts} was dealt and checked through to the {7-Diamonds} turn. Laufer bet 5,100 and Hagen called.

The {a-Hearts} completed the board and both players opted to check. Laufer showed {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} for a pair of aces and Hagen tossed his cards in the muck.

Poland Shows One

Maria Ho was in middle position and bet 2,300, about half the pot, on {8-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}. Todd Poland called on the button and the turn was a {5-Clubs}. Ho checked and Poland quickly bet 3,000. Ho called and the river brought a {q-Hearts}. Ho checked and Poland instantly bet 12,000. After some thought, Ho mucked and Poland showed her the {q-Spades} with a shrug.

Bell Chips Up Against Gipson

A raise to 2,000 by Miles Bell was called by Rami Boukai and Keith Gipson in the big blind three-bet to 9,000. Bell reraised to 20,000, which forced a snap-fold from Boukai, however, Gipson stuck around.

The flop brought {10-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} and Gipson check-folded to Bell's bet of 16,000.

Backwards Step for Negreanu to Begin the Day

Following a flop of {10-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}, Amaury Mamou-Mani bet 5,500 from the big blind and Daniel Negreanu called from middle position.

The turn was the {9-Hearts} and both players checked.

The river was the {5-Clubs}, Mamou-Mani bet 12,500 and Negreanu thought for about 90 seconds before he called.

Mamou-Mani showed {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}, Negreanu mucked and Mamou-Mani collected the pot.

Gesselijay Shoves on Messina

The action folded around to Valentin Messina in the hijack who raised to 1,600. Cambis Gesseljay was next to act and moved all of his chips in the middle. The action folded back around to Messina and he asked for a count. After finding out it was 28,900, Messina went deep into the tank for about three minutes, counting his stack but eventually throwing his cards into the muck.

Howard Gone in Less Than Ten

The flop read {j-Clubs}{8-Spades}{9-Clubs} with 7,100 in the middle already.

Robert Howard checked in the big blind and Daniel Hicks led out for 6,000 from the middle position. Howard responded with a shove and the dealer confirmed he had 36,100 when Hicks asked. Hicks contemplated his options for a while and then opted to make the call with the bigger stack.

"Flush draw?" Hicks asked and Howard nodded.

Howard was sitting on a flush draw indeed while Hicks had flopped a pair of eights but also a gutshot to a straight.

The rest of the board was completed with the {5-Diamonds} on the turn and the {j-Diamonds} on the river to seal the perfect start for Daniel Hicks and send Robert Howard to the rail.

Marquis Eliminated by Reixach

Sergi Reixach raised to 1,600 from middle position and Craig Marquis three-bet shoved for 9,600 on the button. Action folded back to Reixach who made the call.

"I have a history of losing with this hand," muttered Marquis.

Indeed the board ran out {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{4-Spades}{10-Clubs}{3-Hearts} and Reixcach made trip tens to win the pot, sending Marquis to the rail.

Moneymaker Active Off the Bat

Sai Chiu raised to 1,800 from early position, and Kevin Malis called in middle position. Chris Moneymaker three-bet to 5,000 from the hijack, and both of his opponents called.

Action checked to Moneymaker on a {7-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop, and he bet 5,500. Only Chiu called.

Chiu checked the {7-Spades} turn to Moneymaker, who bet 7,500. Chiu called again.

Both players checked the {10-Diamonds} river, and Chiu tabled {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}, only to lose to Moneymaker's {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}.

"Tens are in his wheelhouse," Moneymaker said as he raked in the first pot of the day at Table #442.
