Schwartz and Martini Atop the Field After Day 1 of $2,500 Limit Mixed Triple Draw

After 10 one-hour levels of play, Day 1 of Event #6: $2,500 Limit Mixed Triple Draw is in the books. The day saw 296 players join and ended with 112 still in contention. The field was loaded with many notable names and at the end of the day, Jake Schwartz and Julien Martini found themselves atop the leaderboard with nearly identical stacks of 117,600 and 117,400 respectively.

Martini was visible throughout the entirety of the day, steadily building his stack as play progressed. He had 34,000 after Level Six, 57,000 in Level Seven, and 73,000 going into the final break of the night after Level Eight. The last two hours of play saw his stack hit six figures, where he ended play with over 117,000 in chips.

Several other players also bagged large stacks, including Brayden Gazlay (91,000), John Racener (83,100), Jason Daly (81,300), Andrey Zhigalov (77,500), and Brandon Shack-Harris (74,300).

Other notable players to find a bag include Layne Flack (66,200), David “ODB” Baker (65,900), Benny Glaser (64,100), Chris Vitch (40,200), and James Obst (24,600). Other players such as Todd Brunson, Daniel Negreanu, and David “Bakes” Baker did not make it through the day.

Day 2 will resume Sunday at 2 p.m. local time with another 10 hour-long levels on the schedule. Of the remaining players, 45 will make it into the money and lock up a min-cash of $3,737. The eventual winner will earn $160,447 in addition to a WSOP gold bracelet.

Players will return to blinds of 600/1,200 and limits of 1,200/2,400 with 15-minute breaks every two levels and a one-hour dinner break after the sixth level of play for the day. Bariscan Betil was under the gun in a pot against the small blind and both players patted the first draw. The small blind bet and Betil made the call. Both players again stood pat and the small blind bet out. Betil raised and the small blind made the call, taking action to the third draw where both players stood pat for the third and final time. The small blind checked to Betil, who made a bet that was quickly called.

Betil tabled {7-Spades}{6-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} for a seven-dugi and took down the pot, finding himself solidly above average with the end of Day 1 approaching.

Brunson Busted, Elezra Needs Heat

Eli Elezra was pat and bet into an opponent who drew one on the last pull. His opponent raised and Elezra called, only to be shown an eight-perfect to leave him with a handful of big bets.

At another table, Todd Brunson was all in but found himself busted when he couldn't make the winning hand in badugi. At the same table Jake Schwartz has surpassed 90,000, so he may have been a factor in Brunson's downfall.

Henson on Crumbs

Ray Henson opened under the gun and Brandon Shack-Harris called on the button. Both players drew two and Henson kept betting, with Shack-Harris calling. Henson drew one and Shack-Harris two and Henson bet again. Shack-Harris stuck around and each player drew a card, with Henson checking.

Shack-Harris bet and Henson called but heard bad news immediately.

"I've got it," Shack-Harris said, tabling a wheel.

Henson was left with less than a big bet.

Bronshtein Wins Three Bets on the End

In a battle of blinds, the small blind bet into Yuval Bronshtein after all the draws were done and Bronshtein raised. His opponent reraised and Bronshtein quickly called.

"Seven-six," announced the small blind, showing the perfect variety.

Bronshtein had it beat with {7-}{5-}{4-}{3-}{a-}.

Brown Bests Betil

In a heads-up pot, Bariscan Betil bet from the hijack after the first draw and Chad J Brown called from the cutoff. Betil stood pat on the second draw and Brown drew one card. After the draw, Betil bet again and Brown made the call. Both players stood pat on the final draw and proceeded to check afterward.

Brown turned over {7-}{5-}{4-}{3-}{2-} for a seven-low and Betil sent his cards into the muck.

Fuller Tries to Bluff Two

Rick Fuller took one in the small blind on the second draw and was ahead of Jon Turner (big blind) and Rep Porter (button), who each took two. Fuller bet and they both called, and everyone took a card. Fuller bet again and Turner called. Porter tossed his cards away.

Fuller indicated Turner was good and "PearlJammer" tabled {8-}{7-}{4-}{3-}{2-}.
