Event #48: $2,500 No-Limit Hold'em Restarts at 1.00 p.m.

Mark Radoja

The surviving 201 players from a total field of 996 will resume play in Event #48: $2,500 No-Limit Hold'em this afternoon with ten one-hour levels already under their collective belt and ten more on the cards for today’s Day 2. Three-quarters of those unbagging today will make the money: 150 will be paid a minimum of $3,746 from the $2,241,000 total prize pool.

With a truly international field taking to the felt, there are multiple prior bracelet winners floating around the Amazon Room like sharks circling their prey. Brock Parker, Josh Arieh, Martin Jacobson, Kristen Bicknell, David “Bakes” Baker plus current second and third in chips Barny Boatman and Mark Radoja are just a few of the decorated players hoping to add to their jewelry collection.

Others unpacking sizeable stacks include Antal Mezei (246,400), Danish player Sebastian Percy-Smith (245,000) and the Day 1 chip leader Baitai Li, who with 354,800 returns with considerably more ammunition than any of his 200 opponents.

Cards return to the air with the blinds rising to 800/1,600 and antes of 1,600 at 1.00 p.m. in the Amazon Room. Rejoin PokerNews for live coverage from then until a champion is crowned on Sunday.

Cards Are in the Air

Nível 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

Most of the players are in their seats and the tournament director has instructed the dealers to shuffle up and deal with the blinds starting off at 800/1,600 and a 1,600 big blind ante.

MacDonald Stays Alive

Nível 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

Adrian Buckley raised to 3,600 in the hijack and Norm MacDonald pushed all in for 12,600 in the small blind. The action was back on Buckley who flicked in a call.

Norm MacDonald: {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds}
Adrian Buckley: {a-Diamonds}{3-Spades}

MacDonald was out of the seat with his tournament life on the line, but the flop of {a-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} was good for him. The {4-Spades} landed on the turn and MacDonald was back in his seat before the {4-Hearts} on the river secured him a double up.

Filatov Ships the Turn

Nível 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

Markus Kuhnen opened to 3,200 in early position and was called by Niall Farrell in the small blind and Anatoly Filatov in the big blind. The flop fell {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} and the blinds checked to Kuhnen who continued for 4,000. Farrell folded but Filatov check-raised to 10,100. Kuhnen called and the {5-Hearts} landed on the turn.

Filatov shipped all in for 22,500 and Kuhnen instantly mucked his cards. After that hand, the table was broken and the players were split up amongst the room.

Short Stacks Double Or Bust...

Nível 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

...Or pick up the blinds after a tense under the gun plus one shove. Adrian Buckley moved his last 12,000 chips over the line second to act, and faced a fate wait as Norm MacDonald in the cutoff wrestled with himself over whether to make the call out of his own 30,000 stack. Some agitated chip movements later, MacDonald opted to pass, as did everyone else at the table.

"What you have?" asked neighbour Naor Slobodskoy.
"Queen-king suited," replied MacDonald instantly.
"I would've called."

"Goddamn it," commented MacDonald, before berating himself wistfully for being "cowardly."

Servais Out-kicks Marques for a Double

Nível 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

Martin Servais moved all-in for 15,800 after a preflop open to 3,500 from Steve Karp and a flat call from Pedro Marques. Karp lost interest in the hand at this point, but Marques gave him a spin (he had 140,000 or so behind).

Marques: {q-}{j-}
Servais: {q-Spades}{k-Clubs}

The board: {j-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}, meaning a kicker-based double up for the Belgian.

Stankov Gets a Fold from Brito

Nível 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

On a flop of {q-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{5-Diamonds} with around 14,000 in the middle already, Fernando Brito tossed in a bet of 6,200 from under the gun. Ivan Stankov was the only player to call in position and the {j-Hearts} landed on the turn.

Brito checked this time and Stankov slid out a bet of 19,500. Brito stuck around to see the {q-Hearts} pair the board on the river. He checked again and Stankov pushed all in for around 60,000. Brito gave it a brief thought but sent his cards to the muck.
