Daniel Ospina Leads 83 Players into Day 2 of H.O.R.S.E. Championship; Registration Still Open

Welcome back to the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino and the 2019 World Series of Poker (WSOP) for Day 2 of the Event #29: $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship.

Day 1 saw a total 161 players take their seats throughout the day, and with registration still open until the start of play today on Day 2, last year's mark of 166 players could yet be surpassed as a few more players are expected to trickle in.

The H.O.R.S.E. Championship attracts the greatest players in the game, but unfortunately for the likes of Frank Kassela, Brandon Shack-Harris, Layne Flack, Brock Parker, Mike Matusow, Max Pescatori, David Bach, Benny Glaser, Frankie O'Dell, and John Monnette, they were all sent to the rail on Day 1.

Only 83 players managed to bag a stack, and it would be Colombian mixed game specialist and WSOP bracelet winner Daniel Ospina topping the leaderboard with 255,000 when Day 1 wrapped. Hot on Ospina's heels are WSOP bracelet winners Randy Ohel (253,000), Brian Hastings (250,500), Scott Clements (244,500), and the defending champion John Hennigan (235,500).

With the final three tables likely to finish in the money, players still in contention include David "ODB" Baker, Marco Johnson, Greg Mueller, Daniel Negreanu, Chris Vitch, Robert Mizrachi, Freddy Deeb, Paul Volpe, Brain Rast, Nick Schulman, and Phil Ivey.

Late registration is open until the start of Day 2, as we said, and new players will receive 60,000 in starting chips at 4,000/8,000 betting limits.

Nicholas Seiken ended up all in on fourth street against Brian Rast and tabled jacks in the hole, while Rast had nines in the hole. Seiken had a club flush draw on sixth while Rast made queens up, and spiked the {q-Clubs} on seventh to make queens full. Seiken was drawing dead already and the {4-Hearts} was a mere formality.

Katz bet his final 5,000 on fourth street, and both Buchanan and Galfond called. Fifth street checked through, and on sixth, Galfond bet and Buchanan folded.

On the {k-Diamonds} turn, Buchalter picked up a flush draw and the {k-Spades} river indeed provided no help at all for Negreanu.

Daniel Ospina made it three bets and Haavisto folded, Rast moved all in for another 4,000 on top and Ospina called with a seven-four in the hole. Rast had trey-deuce in the hole but ended up getting running fives and he paired his trey, too.

Ospina had locked up the hand on sixth and peeled another four, while Rast even paired his deuce in the very end.

Ryan Miller in the small blind check-called bets by Justin Bonomo on a board of {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{2-Spades}{8-Clubs} and asked the dealer on the river how much the entire bet throughout the hand was. That happened to be 64,000 and Miller had 65,000 in his stack.

Bonomo announced a wheel and turned over {8-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Spades}.

"That's a good hand," Miller said and mucked.

In the next hand, Bonomo opened first to act and was called by Yehuda Buchalter and Greg Mueller in the blinds. They checked the {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} flop and Buchalter check-folded the {6-Diamonds} turn when facing a bet by Mueller and a call by Bonomo. Mueller bet the {2-Diamonds} river, Bonomo raised and he called Mueller's three-bet to get shown {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for kings full by Mueller.

One hand later, David "ODB" Baker raised in the hijack and Miller called all in for the last 1,000 chip, Bonomo defended the big blind. The {9-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{4-Hearts} flop was checked, Bonomo then bet the {3-Diamonds} turn and {q-Hearts} river. Baker called both bets and Bonomo showed {j-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} for a straight and a low.

Miller only had {k-Spades}{4-Spades}{3-Clubs}{2-Spades} and Baker mucked.
