Loaded Field Gets Through Day 2 in $1,500 Seven-Card Stud

Nível 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Anthony Zinno leads the last 10
Anthony Zinno leads the last 10

Day 2 is done in Event #20: $1,500 Seven-Card Stud. The field thinned all the way down to 10 players, with Anthony Zinno (733,000) amassing a huge chip lead in the day’s final levels and ending the day atop the leaderboard. He’ll be going for his second career WSOP bracelet when Day 3 commences on Sunday, with the restart scheduled for 2 p.m. local time.

This event is scheduled as a four-day event, and as of Sunday morning, WSOP officials intend to still play on with the original plan of playing down to six players on Sunday, restarting with a final table on Monday. This could be changed to allow the final 10 players to play to a winner Sunday, pending a decision by WSOP officials.

The remaining field looks like something out of a $10,000 buy-in tournament, with players like Valentin Vornicu (409,000), Rep Porter (281,000), Eli Elezra (274,000), Scott Seiver (215,000), and David Singer (136,000) all in the hunt. These players will come back Sunday to compete for the WSOP bracelet and first-place prize of $93,766.

Others still in the hunt include accomplished players like Joshua Mountain (445,000), Phongthep “Tab” Thiptinnakon (200,000), Timothy Frazin (115,000) and Rod Pardey Jr. (45,000).

The original field of 285 rapidly dwindled to these final 11 in just two days of play. Day 2 saw 103 grinders return after making it through Day 1, with the money bubble bursting on Level 14 and the final 43 players getting paid.

Notable players making the cash included Perry Friedman in 42nd place ($2,262),Chris “Jesus” Ferguson in 41st ($2,262), Dan Heimiller in 40th ($2,437),Jeff Lisandro (last year’s runner-up in this event) in 31st ($2,696), Julien Martini in 27th ($2,696) andJean Gaspard in 20th ($3,061).

Some of the Day 2 players not finishing in the money included WSOP bracelet winners Daniel Negreanu, Barbara Enright, Yuval Bronshtein, Tom Koral, Ylon Schwartz and Christopher Vitch.

Zinno regularly crushes in high roller events across multiple poker variants, with his previous WSOP bracelet coming in 2015 in the $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller. His career tournament earning sit at $8,431,521, and he’ll add to that total no matter where he finishes in this event. Will he go all the way and claim WSOP bracelet No. 2? The final 10 players have a combined 11 WSOP bracelets among them, so there will be plenty of tough competition.

Elezra Makes It a Hat-Trick of Doubles

Nível 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

The last minutes of the final level of the day ticking down, and Eli Elezra has won another big pot, this time from Scott Seiver. Three-handed with Timothy Franzin until fifth street, Elezra bet here and only Seiver made the call. This left them showing:

Seiver: {x-}{x-}/{6-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{2-Clubs}
Elezra: {x-}{x-}/{j-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{10-Hearts}
Franzin: {x-}{x-}/{a-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} (folded on fifth)

"See if you've got it in you to save the last 16,000, Scott..." said Elezra as he moved in on the river. Seiver made the call, but mucked when Elezra showed down a full hand of: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{7-Spades}/{j-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{10-Hearts}.

"I've lost three roll-ups tonight," said Seiver, as he watched his stack drop, having built it so successfullly throughout the prior level.

Elezra Doubles Again

Nível 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Anthony Zinno
Anthony Zinno

In a strong run in the final level, Eli Elezra has doubled against Phongthep "Tab" Thiptinnakon. Betting on third and fourth streets, then switching to calling single bets on fifth and sixth, their hands before the final bet on the river:

Elezra: {x-}{x-}/{j-Hearts}{5-Spades}{8-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}
Thiptinnakon: {x-}{x-}/{7-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

Elezra led after the final card was dealt for exactly 16,000 (the big bet) and Thiptinnakon called, but mucked when he saw Elezra's {9-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{q-Clubs} in the hole, making a queen-high straight.

Double for Elezra, Who Likes a Sweat

Nível 20 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Eli Elezra
Eli Elezra

Having lost a big pot earlier to Scott Seiver (in which Seiver ended up showing down hole card three-of-a-kind eights, a surprise to himself with his four-flush draw), Eli Elezra's stack dwindled into the emergency zone. He started betting showing {x-}{x-}/{q-Clubs} against Joshua Mountain with {x-}{x-}/{2-Clubs}, and didn't stop until he moved all-in on sixth street. Neither did Mountain stop calling, despite Elezra telling him that there was no shame in it, and then announcing to the table, "This guy never folds!"

Elezra: {x-}{x-}/{q-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{q-Hearts}
Mountain: {x-}{x-}/{2-Clubs}{3-Spades}{6-Spades}{a-Hearts}

The dealer dealt the rivers face up, to go with the revealed {q-Diamonds}{10-Spades} of Elezra and {2-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} of Mountain, but the latter's {5-Diamonds} final card couldn't help vs. Elezra's trip queens.

A tablemate requested that the last card always be dealt down. Elezra agreed, saying, "There's no way I'm not going to sweat it! I love sweating. I paid $1,500 for this tournament, I'm going to sweat it."

The very next hand, Mountain lost a 100,000+ pot to Scott Seiver, meaning this last level has been pretty expensive for him.
