The Marathon Kicks Off at 11 a.m.

Last year they introduced a new tournament at the World Series of Poker, one featuring 100-minute levels and a $2,620 buy-in and needing five long days to complete. Today, it's time again for another long tourney journey as Event #24: $2,620 THE MARATHON No-Limit Hold'em kicks off at 11 a.m.

A total of 1,759 players entered the tournament last year generating a prize pool of over 4 million dollars. In the end, it was Venezuelan poker player Joseph Di Rosa Rojas who ended up winning $690,469 and the first gold bracelet for his home country by beating Alexander Lynskey.

The players are set to play six levels of 100 minutes today, with a 15-minute break after each level and a 75-minute dinner break after Level 4. Players start with 26,200 in chips and registration is open until the end of the second level on Day 2.

Maria Konnikova was in the under-the-gun position and up against the player on the button as the board showed {7-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{4-Spades}. When the river came the {10-Clubs}, Konnikova made a pot-sized bet of 4,500. Her opponent asked for clarification on the bet size before giving himself a minute to think, then he made the call.

Konnikova quickly revealed {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} for a full house and scooped the pot.

Tilly, Moore and Nguyen Split After All-Ins

The board read {7-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} when newly registered Jennifer Tilly bet 1,500 from the cutoff and James Moore raised to 4,500 from the button. Truyen Nguyen was in the big blind and announced all in for around 16,000.

Tilly faced a tough decision with three-bettor Moore behind her and still to act. But after a minute's thought she also moved all in.

"Well, I can't fold," said Moore as he put his chips into the middle and the players revealed their hands.

"Ace," said Ramdin after both players had checked. Weissman flipped over his hand {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} for two pair, and Ramdin mucked.

The player on the button raised with Konnikova in the small blind and the player in the big blind calling. The flop fell {k-Spades}{10-Spades}{9-Hearts} and the button player continued for 1,800 when the action was checked to him. Only Konnikova called.

The turn was the {a-Diamonds} and she once again check-called, this time for 4,650, which left the button with just one 5,000 chip behind him.

When the river came the {4-Clubs}, Konnikova put one single 5,000 chip into the middle, and the button went into the tank. It took a couple of minutes for him to act but he did make the call, and he allowed the dealer to muck his hand when Konnikova turned over {k-Clubs}{q-Spades} for a pair of kings to win the pot.

Cohen Doubles With a Knockout

When the {10-Spades} hit the river, Cohen saw her opponent move all in and she snap-called.

Weissman checked again on the {2-Spades} river and this time Ramdin fired out 20,000. Weissman thought about it for a couple of minutes and he eventually called to see Ramdin holding {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}.
