Shack-Harris Leads the Unofficial Final Table of the $50,000 Poker Players' Championship

Nível 20
Brandon Shack-Harris leads the unofficial final table
Brandon Shack-Harris leads the unofficial final table

The penultimate day of the 2014 World Series of Poker $50,000 Poker Players' Championship is in the books, and leading the unofficial final table of eight is Brandon Shack-Harris. The Chicago native, 2014 WSOP bracelet winner, and Player of the Year contender bagged 4,101,000 chips, and was the only player to finish the day with more than 3.5 million.

Melissa Burr is not among the leaders at the unofficial final table, but she is the first woman to ever cash in this event. By simply reaching the final table Burr has already doubled her career lifetime tournament earnings, and she’ll be looking to climb the ladder tomorrow and possibly capture the Chip Reese Memorial Trophy.

Joining Shack-Harris and Burr on Day 5 will be Frank Kassela, Abe Mosseri, Allen Kessler, Jesse Martin, Chun Lei "samrostan" Zhou, and John Hennigan. This is Hennigan’s third straight cash in the Poker Players’ Championship, and his second consecutive final table. The only other player at the final table with a previous cash in this event is Mosseri, who finished 11th in 2010 for $129,957.

Officially, Mosseri is only guaranteed $165,435 with seven players remaining, but it is rumored that he has already locked up $600,000 in side bets by reaching the final table. If he wins, he could earn an additional $300,000 on top of the $1,517,767 first-place prize.

Shack-Harris, who already has first, second, and third-place finishes at the 2014 WSOP, is nipping at George Danzer’s heels in the Player of the Year race, Martin is looked to capture his second gold bracelet in as many years, and Kessler and Zhou are both looking to win their first and only.

With his 36th WSOP cash, Kessler now has as many as the legendary Doyle Brunson.

Day 4 kicked off with 22 players – just eight shy of the money – and Vladimir Shchemelev’s early exit led to a three-table redraw. From there, Ola “Odd_Oddsen” Amundsgard, David Oppenheim, David Steicke, Gary Benson, and Jason Mercier all busted. Benson four-bet shoved with pocket nines and Burr, the three-bettor, tank-called with two kings. The cowboys held up, and the Australian hit the rail.

The bubble lasted nearly two hours before Elior Sion exited in a hand of stud hi against Shack-Harris. The Brit was check-raised by his opponent on fourth street, then check-called bets on all subsequent streets with a queen-high flush draw on board. Shack-Harris rolled over a full house after Sion called all-in on Seventh, and the Brit mucked.

Robert Mizrachi, Jonathan Duhamel, Matt Glantz, and Todd Brunson all busted shortly after the bubble burst. Duhamel and Glantz were both looking for return trips to the Poker Players’ Championship final table – for Glantz it would’ve been number three.

Australian James Obst was out-kicked with top pair in a hand of no-limit hold’em against Kessler, exiting in 10th place, and the unofficial final table was formed when Seiver dipped out in ninth.

Shack-Harris Takes the Lead in One of the Last Hands of the Night

Nível 20

Limit Hold'em

Abe Mosseri raised from the cutoff only to have Chun Lei Zhou three-bet from the button. Brandon Shack-Harris flatted from the big blind, Mosseri called, and three players took a flop of {j-Spades}{6-Spades}{4-Clubs}. All three players checked and then Shack-Harris bet on the {8-Spades} turn. Mozzeri folded, Zhou called, and the {7-Hearts} completed the board on the river. Shack-Harris bet again, and this time it did the trick as Zhou released his hand.

The final eight players are now bagging and tagging for the night. Stay tuned for official chip counts and a full recap of the Day 4 action.

Pot-Limit Omaha

John Hennigan limped under the gun and Abe Mosseri did the same. Brandon Shack-Harris came along from the button and then Frank Kassela checked his option from the big blind to make it four-way action to the {4-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{a-Spades} flop. Kassela checked, Hennigan bet 78,000 and only Mosseri called.

Both players then checked the {4-Hearts} turn before Hennigan check-called a bet of 100,000 on the {10-Clubs} river. Mosseri tabled the {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{k-Spades} for a full house, and it was good as Hennigan mucked.

"samrostan" No Longer in Danger

Nível 20

Omaha 8

Not long ago Chun Lei "samrostan" Zhou was on the short stack, but he kept his composure to successfully battle back.

In a recent hand, John Hennigan raised under the gun and then called when Zhou three-bet from the hijack. Hennigan then check-called a bet on the {9-Spades}{k-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} flop before both players checked the {10-Clubs} turn. Hennigan once again check-called a bet when the {6-Diamonds} completed the board on the river and Zhou rolled over the {k-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} for two pair. Hennigan mucked.

Chun Lei Zhou raised in first position, John Hennigan called on the button, and Abe Mosseri defended his big blind. The flop fell {7-Clubs}{q-Spades}{5-Diamonds}, Mosseri checked, and Zhou bet. Hennigan raised to two bets, Mosseri folded, and Zhou reraised to three bets. Hennigan called.

The turn was the {10-Spades}, Hennigan called a single bet, and both players checked on the river ({a-Spades}). Zhou showed {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{2-Spades} for a set of sevens, and the only non-American at the table scooped the pot.

Three Hands of Stud

Nível 20

Stud

We just watched three hands of stud that we thought we'd share with you here.

Hand #1: Chun Lei Zhou completed with the {10-Spades} and Allen Kessler called with the {A-Diamonds}. Zhou then bet when he caught the {A-Hearts} on fourth and Kessler folded.

Hand #2: Melissa Burr completed with the {J-Spades} but no one called her. It was a shame too as she showed the {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs} for rolled up jacks.

Hand #3: Jon Hennigan brought it in with the {5-Diamonds} and then called when Zhou completed with the {10-Diamonds}. Zhou bet again on fourth when he caught the {Q-Clubs}, and Hennigan called with the {10-Clubs}. Zhou then received the {9-Clubs} on fifth, bet, and Hennigan folded his {Q-Spades}.
