Kaufman Qualified at WSOP.com

Nível 2 : 25/50, 0 ante
Stephen Kaufman
Stephen Kaufman

It was Chris Moneymaker who was largely responsible for the boom in poker, especially the trend to qualify online for a seat at a WSOP event - a trend that continues to this day.

Stephen Kaufman is one player in the field today who won his seat through WSOP.com. Although he may be older than the majority of the field competing today, he still looks right at home with his earphones plugged in and a big cup on Starbucks in front of him on the table. Kaufamn will be looking to spin up his cheap entry to the tournament into a potentially huge payday. Although there is very long time to go, if the rest of the tournament goes the way of a recent hand we witnessed, who knows what might happen?

There were a couple of limpers from early position, so Kaufman put in the 50 on the button and they all saw a flop of {j-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{10-Clubs}. The early position limper bet 150 and Kaufman was the only caller. The dealer sneezed and had to take a moment to blow her nose before returning to the action. When she did, her first action was to scoop up the bettor's unprotected cards.

The hand was dead and the pot was awarded to Kaufman. The player took it fairly well considering it is his responsibility to protect his hand.

Kaufman chuckled and said, “Next time don’t bluff.”

Cooler Cripples Laak

Nível 2 : 25/50, 0 ante

Sean Troha opened to 125 from under the gun and Phil Laak reraised to 400 from middle position, getting one caller. Once back around to Troha, he would four-bet to 1,100 and Laak tossed out a five-bet to 3,400. The other player got out of the way, Troha pushed all in for slightly more, and Laak called.

Laak: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Troha: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

The board ran out {5-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{8-Spades}{9-Spades}{3-Clubs} and Laak has finds himself short early, while Troha doubled up.

Duhamel Builds Early Stack

Nível 2 : 25/50, 0 ante
Jonathan Duhamel
Jonathan Duhamel

Jonathan Duhamel is another player on a tear in the early levels, having more than doubled his starting stack. We just witnessed it fold to him on the button and he was able to take down the blinds with a raise.

On the next hand he raised from the cutoff and faced one caller on the button. The flop came {8-Hearts}{9-Spades}{4-Spades}, Duhamel check-called a bet of 200, and they then checked down the {a-Hearts} turn and {k-Hearts} river.

Those were two action-killing cards as Duhamel turned over {10-Hearts}{9-Clubs} only to see his opponent with the same {10-Spades}{9-Diamonds}, and the Team PokerStars Pro had to content himself with a chopped pot.

Riess Reads

Nível 2 : 25/50, 0 ante
Ryan Riess
Ryan Riess

2013 Main Event winner Ryan “The Beast” Riess is living up to his name and reputation here by grabbing quite a few chips early on. In a hand we just witnessed, however, he showed that it can be just as important to back off in some spots.

Riess was in the big blind and after a raise and a call from middle position players, he put in the calling chips. The flop came down {6-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} and Riess led out for 250.

The original raiser folded but the remaining player in Seat 10 didn’t take much time to move all in. Riess asked for a count and found it was 2,175. He then asked the dealer to lean back so he could study his opponent. With the dealer out of the way, Riess gave him a long stare and after some thought, he flipped over the {7-Spades} and mucked his hand.

Greenstein at Risk Early

Nível 1 : 25/25, 0 ante

We caught the action with a completed board of {q-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and Barry Greenstein all in for 3,725 into a pot of about the same size. His heads-up opponent had him covered and was contemplating.

"Show me if I fold," asked his opponent. Greenstein shrugged and said "I don't know," wryly. His opponent would find a fold and after Greenstein took the pot he pushed his cards forward face down.
