Richey Knocks Out Defending Champion Greg Merson

Nível 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Greg Merson is eliminated from the 2013 Main Event
Greg Merson is eliminated from the 2013 Main Event

Brett Richey raised to 40,000 from middle position, and Greg Merson moved all in next to act for 481,000. As soon as action got back to Richey he made the call, and the defending champ was in need of a lot of help.

Merson: {a-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}
Richey {a-Spades}{k-Spades}

The flop brought plenty of action, coming down {3-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{2-Spades}. Merson had managed to pair his deuce, but Richey also paired his kicker. The one diamond meant that Merson could catch runner-runner diamonds or also catch a runner-runner straight for a chop, but the {9-Spades} on the turn got rid of those possibilities. Merson would need a deuce and a deuce only to keep his shot at back-to-back titles alive, but it wasn't meant to be, as the {4-Spades} hit the river.

Merson shook hands with Richey before he grabed his bag, wished everyone luck, and headed out of the Mothership. Merson had the deepest run for a defending champion in the Main Event since 2009, where Peter Eastgate finished 78th in his title defense. His elimination means that we will have a new champion, and also means that Steve Gee is the last remaining member of last year's Octo-Nine.

Ylitalo Doubles Through Long

Nível 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

Senovio Ramirez raised to 45,000, and Philip Long three-bet to 103,000. Robin Ylitalo then re-raised all in for 236,000. Ramirez folded, but Long called and turned over {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}. Ylitalo showed {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}, and it was a coin flip. The flop came {4-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{k-Clubs}, giving Ylitalo a pair of kings and the lead. The turn was the {8-Clubs}, and the river the {5-Diamonds}, both bricks, and Ylitalo doubled up.

Buckenmayer Busts

Nível 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

After being crippled by Chris Johnson, Bob Buckenmayer moved all in for around 100,000 or so hit late position. Simon Lam called in late position, having Buckenmayer crushed.

Buckenmayer: {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}
Lam: {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}

"Ace!" Buckenmayer's wife called from the rail. "Ace!"

There was an ace on the {a-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} flop, giving Buckenmayer the lead, and he remained ahead as the {k-Hearts} turned. Buckenmayer's Main Event came to an abrupt end when the {q-Diamonds} completed the board, however, as Lam made a full house.

Buckenmayer examined the board for a possible straight, and finally realized his fate, walking away with a member of the WSOP staff.

George Triple Up

Nível 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

Ryan Riess opened to 40,000 from middle position and was called by Mark Newhouse in the hijack. Chris George was next to act, and moved all in for exactly 40,000, before the button and blinds got out of the way.

The flop came down {4-Spades}{2-Hearts}{5-Hearts}, as Reiss bet out another 40,000 which was called. The {k-Diamonds} fell on the turn, and a bet of 75,000 from Riess was enough to get Newhouse to fold.

Riess: {4-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}
George: {6-Hearts}{8-Clubs}

Riess had flopped a set of fours, leaving George needing a three or seven to win the hand with a straight. The dealer then produced the {7-Diamonds} on the river, to give George a much needed triple up, keeping him in the event.

Nakladal Shove Earns Him Pot

Nível 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

Steve Yang opened with an all-in raise from under the gun for 166,000, then Benjamin Pollak called from one seat over. It folded back around to Jan Nakladal in the big blind who asked how much the original raise was, then looked over his stack for a short while before announcing he was reraising all in.

The action was back on Pollak, and after figuring out how much more was needed to call Nakladal's shove — 472,000 on top — he thought for some time longer before folding his hand face up, showing {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}.

Nakladal then tabled his {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}, which got a reaction from the table, and Yang showed {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}. Pollak shook his head, and continued to do so as the board ran out {4-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{K-Spades}{3-Spades} to knock out Yang and give Nakladal the pot.

Johnson Doubles, Buckenmayer Crippled

Nível 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Chris Johnson
Chris Johnson

Raul Paez opened to 42,000 from middle position only to have Bob Buckenmayer three-bet the cutoff to 105,000. With the action on Chris Johnson in the small blind, he cold four-bet to 220,000.

Paez folded, but with the action on Buckenmayer, he moved all in for 883,000 and Johnson made the call for his last 857,000 in chips.

Buckenmayer: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
Johnson: {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}

With Johnson at risk, but in the lead, the {4-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{8-Spades}{K-Hearts}{A-Clubs} board would ensure him the double to 1.8 million as Buckenmayer was crippled to just 26,000 in chips.

Walthaus Fires the River

Nível 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

Anton Morgenstern led out for 200,000 on a board of {6-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{2-Hearts}, and Jorn Walthaus made the call. The {5-Clubs} completed the board, Morgenstern opted to check, and Walthaus used two hands to slide out 300,000. Morgenstern tanked for a bit, then flicked his cards into the muck.

Huge River Bet From Schwarmann

Nível 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

Yann Dion raised to 40,000 in middle position, and he was heads up with Nick Schwarmann, who called from the cutoff. The flop came down {6-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, and Dion checked to Schwarmann, who tossed out 85,000. Dion tagged along to see the {9-Spades} hit the turn, and Dion checked again to Schwarmann . This time, Schwarmann fired out 190,000, and again, Dion opted to just call. The {2-Diamonds}, and Dion knuckled for a third time. Schwarmann thought for almost a minute before firing out a ginormous bet of 1,075,000. Dion mulled it over for a bit before folding, and Schwarmann dragged another big pot at the featured table.

Jim Collopy Doubles Through George Wong

Nível 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

George Wong opened to 42,000 in the hijack and Jim Collopy three-bet all in on the button for 502,000. Wong went deep into the tank.

"This is sick, I just have to go with my read," said Wong. After about three minutes, he called.

Collopy tabled {A-Clubs}{10-Spades}, to which Wong excitedly tabled {A-Spades}{J-Hearts}. However, that excitement was short lived as the flop came down {Q-Spades}{10-Clubs}{7-Hearts} to pair Collopy. The {9-Diamonds} hit the turn to give Wong a few more outs, but the {9-Clubs} river secured the double up for Collopy.

Newhouse Cripples George

Nível 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

Mark Newhouse and Chris George just had a big preflop all-in encounter that saw Newhouse committing all of his chips and George nearly all of his as well.

The pot was over 1.5 million as Newhouse tabled {A-Spades}{K-Hearts} and George {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}, and the race was on. The {9-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop kept George in the lead, but the {A-Hearts} fell on the turn to put Newhouse in front. The river was the {10-Hearts}, and Newhouse earned a big double while George is now down to less than three big blinds.
