Lee Legged, Gold Surging

Nível 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Jamie Gold
Jamie Gold

"No more death watch!" sparked Jamie Gold to our PokerNews reporter.

With Richard Lee's seat vacant, we inquired to see whether or not Gold had eliminated Lee just as he did at the 2006 WSOP Main Event final table, when Gold's {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} held true against Lee's {J-Spades}{J-Hearts}.

"Nah I didn't, but that would have been sweet!" added Gold before he detailed Lee's elimination.

Lee pushed all in with {A-}{3-} and the player on Gold's immediate left called with {A-}{K-} and held.

Gold then explained that on the following hand, Gold found a double through that very opponent with {A-}{A-} against {J-}{J-} before winning another pot to see him surge to 66,000 in chips.

Hinkle Concedes to Voulgaris

Nível 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Haralabos Voulgaris took down a five-way pot.
Haralabos Voulgaris took down a five-way pot.

Grant Hinkle opened to 1,600 from early position, and Haralabos Voulgaris started a string of calls from his immediate left, as the button and both blinds came along for a five-way pot. The blinds checked to Hinkle after the {3-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} flop, and he bet 4,000. Voulgaris tossed 9,500 into the pot, and everyone folded back to Hinkle. He got out of the way as well, appearing to flash Voulgaris one of his cards before mucking them.

Taylor Finishes Off Selbst

Nível 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Vanessa Selbst
Vanessa Selbst

Earlier in the day we posted a hand where Stacy Taylor got the best of Vanessa Selbst for a decently sized pot. Taylor was able to finish the deed here on Day 2 by taking out Selbst just before the break. We didn't catch the action but Taylor was kind enough to relay it to us.

A player opened from middle position with a raise to 1,200. Taylor called the raise before Selbst bumped it up to 4,100. Action folded around to Taylor who called.

The flop came down {7-}{9-}{3-} and Taylor check called a bet of 4,500 from Selbst. The turn was the {J-Spades} and Taylor said that she instantly moved all in. Selbst went into the tank.

"She was asking me a bunch of questions, like 'Why would you make it so much?' and other saying some other stuff like 'so sick, so sick.'" Taylor explained. Eventually Selbst made the call.

Taylor: {8-}{10-}
Selbst: {8-}{8-}

Taylor was in great shape with the nut straight but she still needed to avoid a ten for a chop, which she did when a {2-} fell on the river. That was good enough for Taylor to lock up the pot and the knock out, sending Selbst home from the tournament.

Break Time; Kroon Leading, Lovers Unite, Pros Falling

Nível 7 : 300/600, 75 ante
Laura Green and Scott Born (far right)
Laura Green and Scott Born (far right)

The remaining players here on Day 2c are heading on a 20-minute break.

As play began in level seven, it would be crowd favorite Daniel Negreanu unfortunately falling to the rail when he lost a flip with {A-}{K-} against {10-}{10-}. However it would be the spotting of two newlyweds located on the same table that would draw lots of attention as Laura Green and Scott Born were separated by just one player.

NHL goalie Roberto Luongo would be one of the many players to fall this level when he committed on the turn with a straight draw but was unable to improve against his opponent's two pair. Chris DeMaci, Allyn Jaffrey Shulman, A.J. Jejelowo, Nam Le, Nick Schulman, Adam Levy and Bryan Devonshire all hit the rail while Dan Kelly's run at claiming Player of the Year points also were cut down when his {K-Hearts}{K-Spades} was outdrawn by his opponent's {10-Hearts}{10-Spades} when they turned a set.

Previous November Niners Rob Salaburu and Joseph Cheong, as well as Jean-Robert Bellande, Bryn Kenney and Carlos Mortensen all began mounting a charge up the leaderboard, but when the bell rang for break, Mark Kroon would still lead with a whopping 292,000 in chips.

With players now stretching their legs and enjoying 20 minutes away from the felt, check out this video Lynn Gilmartin recorded with Tom Dwan about his short-lived stay in the Main Event.

Luongo Can't Block This Shot

Nível 7 : 300/600, 75 ante
Roberto Luongo
Roberto Luongo

Roberto Luongo was just eliminated from the tournament and we caught all the action.

From middle position a player raised to 1,200. Bryan Buonocore called from the button, the player in the small blind called, and Luongo called from the big blind.

The flop came down {10-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} and action checked to the original raiser. He put out a bet of 2,000 that Luongo and Buonocore called. The turn was the {K-Spades} and action checked to Buonocore who put out a bet of 6,300. Next to act, Luongo moved all in for a total of 7,725. Both the original raiser and Buonocore called.

The river was the {2-Hearts} and the original raiser check-folded to a bet of 8,200 from Buonocore.

Buonocore turned up his {K-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for two pair and that was good as Luongo had missed everything with his {9-Spades}{8-Spades} for straight and flush draws.

"Deuce of hearts," Luongo laughed to one of his buddies on the rail as he grabbed his things and left the Brasilia Room.

Laura Green and Scott Born are both located on Table 429 here in the Amazon Room.

So?

They're both from Woodstock, Georgia.

So?

Well they are actually here on their honeymoon and have somehow managed to be seated on the same table for Day 2.

Speaking to the Tournament Director, he indicated that since the tournament is underway there is no need to separate them, and so far it appears that they are enjoying seated on the same table as they are happily chatting away with each other and other players.

Hellmuth Rakes in Three-Bet Pot

Nível 7 : 300/600, 75 ante
Phil Hellmuth is slowly chipping up.
Phil Hellmuth is slowly chipping up.

Phil Hellmuth opened to 1,800 from middle position, and the cutoff called. The button three-bet to 3,700, and Hellmuth called, as did the cutoff.

Hellmuth decided to lead out on the {7-Spades}{q-Spades}{7-Hearts} flop, betting 5,000. The cutoff folded, while the button began thinking.

"I'll take this one, you take the next one," Hellmuth said.

His opponent finally folded {a-}{k-} face-up, and Hellmuth quickly mucked his cards.

Break Time; Love Takes Lead, Kroon Snatches it Back, Many Notables Bust

Nível 6 : 250/500, 50 ante
Mark Kroon
Mark Kroon

Level six is now complete and the players are heading on a 20-minute breka.

The final Day 2 of the 2013 World Series of Poker Main Event saw the surviving players from Day 1c - all 2,306 of them - take to the felt spread across the Amazon, Brasilia and Pavilion Rooms.

Everyone's eyes would be on the many notables throughout as well as those sitting high on the chip leader board as UFC Announcer Bruce Buffer kicked the day off with a bellowing shuffle up and deal. 2006 World Champion Jamie Gold would find himself seated alongside 6th place finisher Richard Lee, but it would unfortunately be Day 1c chip leader Mark "P0kerHo" Kroon relinquishing his lead to Imari Love who finished the level with roughly 228,000. However as the level came to a close, Kroon would river trip sixes with his {9-Clubs}{6-Clubs} to soar back up to 260,000 to end the level as top dog.

A hand in the Amazon Purple section would last roughly 15 minutes after Dutch player Pieter de Korver went into the tank for 12 minutes on the river before table mate Daniel Negreanu called time. Another hand from the Amazon Room would also cause a stir after a three-way six-bet hand between Jake Cody, Manuel Bevand and Vee Lee would see queens, queens and kings all get tabled!

Speaking of Negreanu, he would grind his short stack through to break, but the likes of David Sands, Brian Hastings, Barbara Enright, Maria Ho, Sam Trickett and Ben Yu would all be sent to the rail alongside Tom Dwan who lost {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} to Nicholas Vannewkirk's {J-Spades}{J-Hearts} to be eliminated.

As the remaining players enjoy some fresh air, refuel on coffee and snacks, you at home can watch a video Sarah Grant recorded with comedian Ray Romano yesterday.

Rough Start for Ivey

Nível 6 : 250/500, 50 ante
Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

Phil Ivey came into today with a very healthy stack of 119,650, but the first level hasn't gone well for him, as we just caught him losing a pot to drop him to 70,000.

Ivey started the action with a raise in middle position to 1,300, and Chad Winters defended his big blind as the lone caller. The flop came down {10-Hearts}{2-Spades}{7-Diamonds}, and Winters check called a bet of 1,600 from Ivey. Both players checked on the {j-Diamonds} turn, and the river pair the board, coming the {j-Spades}.

Winters only took a few moments before putting out a bet of 2,600, and Ivey immediately grabbed two orange T5,000 chips, tossed them into the pot, and announced "eight" as they were in the air. This meant a raise to 8,000, and Winters instantly called.

Ivey confidently turned over {k-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} for trip jacks, but it was no good, as Winters held {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for a straight. Ivey grimaced a bit before tossing his hand towards the dealer, then quickly counted his chips, and got ready for the next hand.
