An Orbit with Kevin Pollak and Chad Holloway

Kevin Pollak
Kevin Pollak

Just prior to the break, PokerNews' own Chad Holloway's table broke for the second time today and he found himself located in the purple section of the Amazon Room seated across from comedian Kevin Pollak.

Consequently, PokerNews decided to witness of orbit of play between the two players.

Hand 1: Kevin Pollak limped under the gun and the small blind completed before the big blind bumped it to 2,500. Pollak called as the small blind released before the dealer spread a {J-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} flop with the big blind leading for 3,500.

Pollak went deep into the tank for nearly three minutes before folding and saying, "that was a birthday gift!"

Hand 2: Chad Holloway pulled out a poker magazine and folded his hand before Dimitar Yosifov opened and then four-bet the small blind to win the hand.

Hand 3: Holloway is now on page 18 and Pollak stepped away from the table.

Hand 4: From under the gun Holloway released his hand as a single preflop raise one the pot.

Hand 5: The player in the hi-jack opened to 1,300 and Jesse Yaginuma called from the button before Holloway put down his magazine and made the call from the big blind.

The flop of {J-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} was checked round to Yaginuma who tossed in 2,300. Holloway sized up the bet and slid forward his only stack of chips that amounted to an all in of roughly 21,200. The original raiser and Yaginuma folded and Holloway collected the pot.

Hand 6: Pollak and Holloway began a conversation about a TV show and simultaneously Pollak opened the pot from the hi-jack with a raise to 1,500 to win the blinds and antes.

Hand 7: From the button Holloway kicked it up to 1,300 only to have Brady Bullard three-bet the small blind to 3,100. Holloway called, and on the {10-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} flop he called a bet of 2,700 from Bullard.

Both players then checked down the {10-Hearts} and {K-Diamonds} on the turn and river as Bullard declared a queen.

Holloway responded with, "You're good!" and folded as Bullard tabled his {Q-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} while moving to 160,000 in chips.

Hand 8: Facing a raise to 1,400, Pollak made it 4,000 to go and forced a fold from the preflop raiser. Pollak raked in the pot and tabled his {K-Spades}{K-Clubs} to prove he had it.

Hand 9: Pollak recommenced his table talk with Holloway regarding a TV show and opened the pot to 1,200 from early position.

Everyone folded and Pollak was pushed another pot.

"Matt. You're my favorite so far. The rest can suck it!" Pollak said towards the dealer as he flashed his {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} for another premium hand.

Following the orbit Pollak sat at 25,350 while Holloway was virtually the same as where he began with just over 20,600 in chips.

Castelluccio Extends Chip Lead

Sergio Castelluccio
Sergio Castelluccio

On a {Q-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} flop with 4,500 in the middle we found Scott Fischman leading out for 1,500. The player on his direct left called, as well as Sergio Castelluccio from the button before all three players checked the {2-Diamonds} on the turn.

With the river landing the {8-Hearts}, the action was checked to Castelluccio and he bet out 4,600 to prompt two quick folds.

As Castelluccio raked in the pot, his stack grew to roughly 245,000 in chips.

Lehmanski Tries the Triple-Barrel Bluff; Fails

Max Lehmanski (Day 1a)
Max Lehmanski (Day 1a)

Max Lehmanski led out for 4,400 on a flop of {q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}, and his opponent, Darrell Ticehurst, called.

The turn was the {2-Clubs}, Lehmanski fired out a second bullet worth 10,600, and Ticehurst again called.

The {7-Spades} completed the board, and Lehmanski emptied the chamber, firing a third and final bullet worth 36,700. Ticehurst tanked for longer than he had on the two prior streets combined before pulling out chips from his stack. He then counted how much he would have left if he called and was wrong - around 75,000 - and pushed the small stack forward.

Lehmanski rapped the table, signaling that Ticehurst was good, but Ticehurst wouldn't table his hand unless the German either showed his or mucked. Lehmanski flashed his hand for a second or two - it looked like {7-Hearts}{6-Spades} - and Ticehurst turned over {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs} for a pair of aces.

He raked in the pot and now sits with 178,600 chips, while Lehmanski fell to 53,000.

Fatima Moreira de Melo Busts On First Hand of the Day

Fatima Moreira de Melo
Fatima Moreira de Melo

In a flurry of action we saw Fatima Moreira de Melo bust out on the first hand of the day. After a raise and a reraise preflop she was all in before the flop against Andrew Brown.

De Melo: {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}
Brown: {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}

The flop came down {5-Spades}{2-Hearts}{K-Hearts} giving no help to de Melo who still needed to draw an ace or a queen. The turn {2-Spades} wasn't what she needed either, and the {8-Diamonds} river was a blank as well allowing Andrew Brown to take down the pot and claim the scalp of the lovely de Melo.

Tripodi Leads Returners for Day 2a/2b

Clement Tripodi
Clement Tripodi

Welcome back for the first of two Day 2 flights of the 2013 World Series of Poker Main event. Today survivors from Days 1a and 1b return to continue their tourney journeys — a total of 1,880 players — with each group segregated and playing separately in the different rooms here at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino.

From the 584 players making up the Day 1a crowd Evan Panesis, Nicholas Crisp, and Abdulasiz Almashal are returning to the biggest stacks as each was able to build more than 180,000 chips during the five two-hour levels they played during Saturday's first flight. Also coming back from that flight to above-average stacks are Farzad Bonyadi, Nick Maimone, Richard Lyndaker, Daniel Makowsky, and Jason DeWitt.

Meanwhile from the 1,296 in the Day 1b group Clement Tripodi was the only one managing to accumulate more than 200,000 by night's end, with Jevon Lam and Daniel Cates occupying the next two positions among that field with stacks of more than 180,000. Miguel Proulx, Sorel Mizzi, Adam Friedman, Raj Vohra, Annette Obrestad, and Eoghan O'Dea also have six-figure stacks to start the day.

The Day 1a group will all remain in the Amazon room today ("A" for Amazon) while the Day 1b survivors will reassemble in the Brasilia and Pavilion rooms, and all will play five more two-hour levels today. We're just minutes away from the call to "shuffle up and deal," so be sure to stick with PokerNews throughout the day to see who emerges today to play in Thursday's Day 3.

As we await the start of play, here's Sarah Grant with today's update from the WSOP:
