Andy Hwang Channels Joseph Cheong During Preflop Raising War

Nível 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Andy Hwang's Big Stack Has Vanished
Andy Hwang's Big Stack Has Vanished

Andy Hwang just surrendered his seven-figure stack in vexing fashion, and the action on this hand is indicative of the hyper-aggression that has become standard in tournament poker.

The battle began when Hwang opened to 20,000 from late position, and Chris Hunichen three-bet to 52,000. Holding {A-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}, Hwang was not a believer, and his four-bet to 98,000 was designed to fold low pocket pairs and king-high hands. Unfortunately, for Hwang, Hunichen did not hold a hand of either variety, because he elected to five-bet for 152,000 and put the pressure back on Hwang.

Undeterred by the aggression, Hwang made the now standard six-bet to 286,000, and watched as Hunichen simply shipped in the seven-bet all-in for 602,000.

Now Hwang went deep into the tank, thinking over his options for several minutes while contemplating how he had arrived at such a questionable spot. Something must have convinced him that Hunichen was on a move, or perhaps he felt committed to the pot by this point, because Hwang eventually made the call with his ace-rag.

Naturally, Hunichen turned over the only hand Doyle Brunson ever seven-bet in his life: {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}.

A final board of {10-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{7-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{5-Spades} later, and Hwang's former chip leadership was transferred to Hunichen.

Hunichen Busts One

Nível 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

After the player in the cutoff raised to 20,000, the player in the small blind three-bet shoved for about 150,000. Chris Hunichen four-bet shoved from the big blind, isolating the pot.

Hunichen: {5-Clubs}{5-Spades}
Opponent: {Q-Hearts}{J-Spades}

The board ran out {K-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{6-Spades}{7-Hearts}, giving Hunichen the pot with a straight.

Set No Good for Scott Clements

Nível 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Scott Clements, Seen Here Stacking on Day 2, Has Been Felted on Day 3
Scott Clements, Seen Here Stacking on Day 2, Has Been Felted on Day 3

Two-time WSOP bracelet winner Scott Clements just lost most of his chips with a set on the river. We caught the action with the flop reading {7-Hearts}{6-Spades}{4-Spades}, and Clements' stack moved in front of him for an all-in bet. His opponent had bet 43,000, and called the reshove of 195,000.

Clements tabled the {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and found himself ahead of the {Q-Spades}{J-Spades} held by his opponent, but with overcards and a flush draw, the two were virtually flipping for the pot.

The {8-Clubs} on the turn meant chop possibilities were possible, but the {10-Spades} on the river hit both players hard. Clements made a set of tens, but the spade completed a queen-high flush for the other player, and most of the former bracelet winner's chips were sent away.

Clements soon got his last 60,000 or so chips into the middle, and was unable to score a double, ending his deep run here at the WSOP's inaugural "Millionaire Maker" event.

Mike Carroll Working the Short Stack Game

Nível 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Nursing a short stack for much of Day 3, Mike Carroll found himself all-in recently, in what has to be a record for three-way all-in pots. With his {A-Spades}{8-Spades}, Carroll shipped his last 50,000 into the middle, and was called in two spots by the {K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} and the {2-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}.

The flop of {10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Spades} gave Carroll a pair, crushing the ragged hand and leaving him to dodge paint on subsequent streets. A {10-Hearts} on the turn solidified his position, and the {9-Hearts} on the river meant he could breathe easier, at least for another round or two of blinds and antes.

Keon Sample Sinks Alexander Bernard

Nível 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

From under the gun, Keon Sample popped it to 24,000 and watched Alexander Bernard call from late position, as well as Tam Truong from the big blind.

The flop fell {10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} and Sample continued with a wager of 35,000, a move which elicited an all-in three-bet of 167,000 from Bernard. Truong quickly got out the way, and after Bernard called, the two players tabled their cards.

Sample: {J-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Bernard: {A-Clubs}{J-Spades}

Bernard had flopped top pair/top kicker with his ace-jack, but he was trailing the two pair of Sample. The {6-Clubs} brought no help on the turn, and the {Q-Diamonds} on the river sent Bernard packing. Sample now has a big stack to work with as the field continues to shrink.

Nível 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Bart Hanson raised to 20,000 on the button and Khammy Lim three-bet all in for 111,000 from the small blind. Hanson called with {K-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}, racing with Lim's {3-Hearts}{3-Spades}.

The board ran out {J-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{7-Spades}{J-Clubs}{6-Hearts}, no help to Hanson, doubling up Lim.
