Welcome to PokerNews' Day 3 coverage of Event #2: 5,000 No-Limit Hold'em (Eight Handed). The starting field of 481 players is down just 28 hopefuls, each looking to capture the coveted World Series of Poker gold bracelet, as well as the $553,906 first-place prize.
On top of the chip counts entering Day 3 is Rafal Michalowski with 632,000. He is followed by Markus Gonsalves (502,000), Trevor Pope (465,000), Ismael Bojang (463,000), David Vamplew (452,000), and Tom Marchese (446,000). Many of poker's finest still remain in the hunt. Among them are Joe Serock (372,000), Darryll Fish (354,000), two-time bracelet winner Brian Rast (270,000), bracelet-winner Dan Kelly (224,000), and David "Doc" Sands (172,000).

Garen Nichanian open-shipped all in for his last 44,000 from under the gun. David "Doc" Sands called and the rest of the table folded.

Sands held a death grip on the hand after the dealer produced a flop that read . The on the turn sealed the deal and the finished off the board. Sands now has about 225,000 in chips while Nichanian has become the first elimination of the day.

Trevor Pope opned to 13,000 from the hijack only to have Tony Gargano move all in from the cutoff for 137,000. Matthew Parry announced all in over the top from the small blind and Pope let it go.

Ben Hamnett opened to 12,000 from the cutoff and the button got out of the way. Kai Chang flat called out of the small blind and Griffin Benger three-bet to 35,000 out of the big. Hamnett folded and Chang stuck around.
The flop brought and Chang checked. Benger continued for 27,000 and Chang moved all in for about 98,000. Benger called and the hands were revealed.

Chang was drawing thin and looking to make his gutshot but it ultimately did not happen as the turned and the rivered. Benger is now sitting on 390,000 while Chang has hit the rail.
