Event #2: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em (Eight Handed)

Dia 2 Iniciado

Day 2 on the Horizon

Tom Marchese
Tom Marchese

Day 2 of Event #2: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em (Eight Handed) is set to start in 15 minutes or so, and leading the remaining 194 players is Tom Marchese. After winning a big hand at the end of Day 1, Marchese bagged 153,975, and the next closest player was Scott Baumstein. Baumstein (111,100) and David "Doc" Sands (110,875) were the only other players to bag over six figures.

Among the returning players are bracelet winners Antonio Esfandiari, Gavin Griffin, Ryan Eriquezzo, Dan Kelly, Vanessa Selbst, Barry Greenstein, Brandon Cantu, and Phil Hellmuth. Hellmuth, who earned bracelets 12 and 13 last year is short, with 29,075 chips, but is very experienced in wielding the short stack.

The plan is to play 10 levels then bag and tag for the evening. This is a four-day event, so we will not crown a winner until Saturday or Sunday morning - our bets are on the latter. If you want a seat draw, you can go here.

Mandavia Off to a Bad Start

Nível 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

We arrived at Ankush his table when he was already involved in a hand with Vanessa Selbst. We saw Selbst check-calling a 1,400 bet from the big blind on {6-Hearts}{K-Spades}{8-Hearts} | {J-Diamonds}. Mandavia, under-the-gun plus one, checked behind when the {K-Hearts} hit the river. Mandavia had some hopes of taking down the pot with his {A-Spades}{Q-Spades} but mucked those cards as soon as Selbst showed the {J-Spades}{3-Spades}.

The next hand Mandavia opened once again, this time from the under-the-gun position. He got two non-believers; both the cutoff and Selbst in the small blind made the call. Selbst checked to Mandavia on {A-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{3-Spades} and the online superstar decided to continuation-bet 1,600. The player in the cutoff made it 3,500 to go and Selbst folded immediately. Mandavia made the call however, leaving him behind with 15,625. Both players checked on the {3-Diamonds} turn after which the dealer put out the {J-Spades} as the river. Mandavia checked once again, and folded after his opponent bet out 4,000.

Grayson Ramage Eliminated By Cary Katz

Nível 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

Grayson Ramage raised from UTG+1 and Cary Katz three-bet from the cutoff. Action folded back to Ramage who four-bet shoved for about 18,000. Katz called with {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}, ahead of Ramage's {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{7-Clubs}, safe for Katz to score the elimination.

Peters Hits the River

Nível 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

As we hoover around table 426 we saw already 2,600 in front of Randy Haddox who was in the cutoff. His neighbor, David Peters on the button, had 5,800 in front of him and snap called as soon as Haddox had announced all in. Peters turned over {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} and was in a race situation with Haddox' {2-Spades}{2-Hearts}.

It looked like Haddox was about to lock up the double up but the river brought a king to send him home: {3-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{7-Spades} | {8-Hearts} | {K-Spades}. Peters busts Haddix and now has a workable stack.

Great River for Shorr; Poor One for Kurdin

Nível 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

Shannon Shorr was faced with a 3,600-chip bet from Vasily Kurdin on a board of {8-Hearts}{k-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}. Shorr called, then opted to lead out for 7,400 when the {q-Clubs} completed the board. Kurdin tanked for a minute or so, then made the call.

Shorr showed {j-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for a rivered straight, and Kurdin flashed {q-Hearts}{q-Spades} before tossing his cards into the muck.

James Dempsey - Eliminated
James Dempsey - Eliminated

James Dempsey found himself all in and at risk preflop for about five big blinds holding {a-}{k-} against the {a-}{q-} of Charles Sylvestre. Sylvestre flopped a queen, and after the turn and river both produced bricks, Dempsey was eliminated.
