Assareh Spiraling

Shahriar Assareh
Shahriar Assareh

Just before break, there was a three-way pot on Table 3 with around 800,000 in the middle. The board read {3-Spades}{3-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{8-Hearts}, and Shahriar Assareh and Danny Wong checked to Marc Ladouceur, who tossed out 600,000 on the button. Only Assareh called.

The {q-Diamonds} completed the board, and Assareh checked again. Ladouceur tanked for nearly a minute, then slid out thirteen lavender T100,000 chips, betting 1.3 million. Assareh quickly called, and Ladouceur tabled {j-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for a flush.

Assareh mucked, leaving himself with only 1.055 million chips. Ladouceur is now up to 11 million.

Omar Saeed Eliminated in 37th Place ($191,646)

Elisabeth Hille opened for 200,000 only to have Omar Saeed three-bet to 525,000. Chip leader Daniel Strelitz then put in a four-bet to 945,000, Hille got out of the way, and Saeed moved all in for 2.88 million. Strelitz snap called and rolled over the granddaddy of all hands.

Showdown
Strelitz: {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}
Saeed: {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}

It was a terrible spot for Saeed, and he would receive no miracle as the board ran out an uneventful {J-Hearts}{9-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{4-Hearts}. Saeed finished in 37th place, which means the remaining players will be combined to the final four tables.

Kyle Keranen Eliminated in 38th Place ($191,646)

After that quiet stretch, the eliminations have suddenly started back up again. Shortly after Amnon Filippi's elimination, a hand arose on the neighboring table in which Percy Mahatan opened for 250,000 from early position and Jeremy Ausmus called from middle position. Kyle Keranen then reraised all in for 1.465 million total from the cutoff, and when it folded back to Mahatan he reraised all in over the top of that, forcing a fold from Ausmus.

Keranen had but {8-Hearts}{4-Spades}, and unfortunately for him he'd run into Mahatan's {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}. The board rolled out {7-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}, and Keranen is out in 38th place.

Amnon Filippi returned from the last break short of chips, then maintained the same stack for the first half-hour. Finally he open-pushed from the button for his last 700,000 and got one caller in Paul Volpe in the big blind.

Volpe: {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}
Filippi: {Q-Spades}{9-Clubs}

The board ran out {A-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{A-Clubs}, and Filippi's Main Event run ends in 39th place.

Baumann On Fire

Wilfried Haerig opened to 200,000 and Gaelle Baumann called on the button. The blinds folded and the flop came {8-Clubs}{7-Spades}{6-Spades}. Baumann bet 260,000 and Haerig called.

Both players check the {4-Diamonds} on the turn and when the {A-Diamonds} fell on the river, Haerig bet 700,000. Gaelle quickly tossed out a call. Haerig showed {A-Clubs}{7-Hearts} for two pair, but was behind Baumann's {8-}{8-} for a flopped set of eights.

A Costly String Bet

Shahriar Assareh accidentally string-bets

Shahriar Assareh opened to 225,000 from middle position, Robert Corcione three-bet to 550,000 from the hijack seat, and the action folded back to Assareh. He went into the tank for the better part of a minute, then announced, "Raise."

He grabbed 1 million chips with two hands, but only slid one stack of 500,000 forward at a time. As he was sliding the second stack forward, the dealer informed him that he would be forced to min-raise to 875,000, rather than four-bet to 1.225 million as he intended.

Corcione called, and the flop fell {6-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}. Assareh led for 500,000, and Corcione called.

The turn was the {4-Hearts}, and Assareh led out for another 500,000. Corcione called.

The {8-Clubs} completed the board, and once more, Assareh tossed out 500,000. Corcione tanked for nearly a minute, then called.

Assareh turned over {j-Clubs}{j-Spades} for a pair of jacks, but Corcione had that beat with {6-Hearts}{5-Hearts} for a rivered straight.

"It's my fault," Assareh sighed after the hand.

"Yeah," Corcione responded. "If you don't string-bet, I have to fold."

Schedule Talk

Nível 29 : 50,000/100,000, 10,000 ante

The first half-hour of Level 29 has seen the pace of bustouts slow considerably with none thus far since the last break. The latest word regarding the schedule is they plan to play no later than 2:20 AM, stopping before that if the field should shrink to 27.

If they do go until 2:20 AM, tomorrow's start will be pushed to 1 PM. Indeed, it sounds as though the later start may be likely regardless of how tonight plays out.
