Gavin Smith Eliminated in 96th Place ($62,061)

Gavin Smith (Day 5) Eliminated
Gavin Smith (Day 5) Eliminated

Over at the secondary feature table, action folded around to World Series of Poker bracelet winner Gavin Smith on the button. Smith moved his short stack of 545,000 all in. Eric Legoff moved all in over the top from the small blind and the big blind folded his hand. The cards were revealed to show that Smith was racing for his tournament life.

Smith: {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}
Legoff: {J-}{J-}

Smith was looking for an ace or a queen heading to the flop, but instead only found {9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{3-Hearts}. Fourth street brought the {10-Diamonds} and Smith was one card away from elimination.

The {8-Hearts} struck the river and Smith was forced to settle for an early exit here on Day 6.

Volpe Makes Jacks Full

Sam Soverel opened to 80,000 from middle position, Paul Volpe called on the button, and the blinds released. The dealer fanned {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{6-Hearts}, and both players checked. The {k-Spades} turned, Soverel led out for a bet, and Volpe called.

The {k-Clubs} completed the board, and Soverel slowed down, checking to Volpe who fired 220,000. Soverel called, and Volpe tabled {j-Spades}{10-Spades} for jacks full. Volpe is now up to 3.6 million, while Soverel slipped to 1.35 million.

Balkin Doubles; Selbst Crippled

Australian David Balkin opened for 85,000 from the cutoff and was met with a three-bet to 205,000 from Vanessa Selbest in the small blind. After the big blind got out of the way, Balkin pushed all in for 940,000 total and Selbst made the call.

Showdown

Selbst{A-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}
Balkin{4-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}

It was a classic flip, but not after the flop fell {2-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{4-Spades} and delivered Balkin a set. Suddenly Selbst's overs were no good and she was left looking for a five to make a wheel. The {10-Spades} turn wasn't it, and neither was the {6-Diamonds} river, though it was close.

Balkin, who had been on his feet, sat back down and collected the pot while Selbst, who won Event 52: $2,500 10-Game Mix - Six-Handed earlier this summer, was left with just 380,000.

Maag Yet to Arrive

Nível 25 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

We are about 15 minutes into Level 25 and it appears all but one of the 96 remaining players are in their seats and playing hands. Only Nicco Maag has yet to arrive, his massive pile of chips (good for 10th position to start the day) sitting unstacked in front of his empty chair.

Schoder Doubles

On the first hand of play, 2012 WSOP bracelet winner Dung Nguyen opened to 80,000 in the cutoff. Jonathan Schoder moved all in for 465,000 on the button, and the action folded back to Nguyen, who tank-called.

Nguyen{3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}
Schoder{a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}

The {7-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{10-Hearts} flop didn't directly connect with Schoder, but it gave him a backdoor flush draw and three extra outs to counterfeit Nguyen. The {a-Spades} slammed on the turn, giving Schoder a pair of aces, and the {9-Hearts} bricked on the river.

Schoder doubled to about 1.2 million chips, while Nguyen dipped to 1.415 million.

Schoder Moving Stack Around

Jonathan Schoder raised the action to 80,000 only to have Alban Juen three-bet to to 205,000 from the cutoff. The button and blinds got out of the way and it was back on Schoder.

Schoder shuffled a stack of chips while staring at Juen from across the table.

"I'm all in," Schoder said softly.

Juen flung his hand at the muck and Schoder was able to take down the pot.

Ovseyevitz Doubles Through Foudoulakis

Max Ovseyevitz opened for 80,000 and was called by Manos Foudoulakis. It was heads-up action to the {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{10-Spades} flop, which saw Ovseyevitz bet, Foudoulakis called, and the {Q-Clubs} appeared on the turn.

This time Ovseyevitz checked only to move all in for 585,000 when Foudoulakis bet 120,000. The latter made the call and the cards were turned up:

Showdown

Ovseyevitz{A-Spades}{A-Hearts}
Foudoulakis{A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}

Ovseyevitz was ahead with his pocket rockets, but Foudoulakis did hold an open-ended straight draw. The dealer burned one last time and put out the {6-Diamonds} on the river, allowing Ovseyevitz to double.

Frederick Vogt Eliminated in 97th Place ($62,061)

Frederick Vogt
Frederick Vogt

Fred Vogt had a memorable conclusion to Day 5 last night, nursing a super short stack to make a significant pay jump and then last into today's sixth day of play. He started today wearing his leather cowboy hat and an American flag-themed tie — rich in style, but no so much in chips.

On the second hand he was all in from the big blind with {J-Clubs}{2-Hearts} against Roman Valerstein's {J-Spades}{9-Clubs}.

The flop came {6-Clubs}{8-Spades}{J-Diamonds} and turn {7-Clubs}. "Doesn't look too promising," said Vogt with the same big smile he was wearing last night. The river then brought the {A-Clubs}, and Vogt wished his opponents good luck as he left for the cashier's desk.
