No Day 6 for Cheong

Joseph Cheong- 116th
Joseph Cheong- 116th

Wow. It was an absolute nightmare of a level for former November Niner Joseph Cheong. He came back from dinner break with 3.1 million, and all that is gone within this level. Paul Volpe is the one that did him in.

Cheong was down to about 1.1 million when he made his stand in a preflop raising war with Volpe. Cheong held {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}, and Volpe tabled {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}. The flop was a tough one for Cheong, coming down {5-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{6-Hearts}. Cheong would now need one of the two remaining tens in the deck, but it wasn't meant to be. The turn was the {2-Hearts}, and the river was the {j-Clubs}.

Despite this downfall, it can't be overlooked how impressive Cheong has been in the last three main events. He finished 3rd in 2010, 114th in last year's and he will finish 116th this year. Meanwhile Volpe is up to 4.25 million.

Boom

Erik Hellman booms a knockout.
Erik Hellman booms a knockout.

We heard that there was an all in at the secondary feature table, and when we sprinted over, there was also a call. From our limited view, we could see that the board was {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}, Erik Hellman had {10-}{8-}, and according to the announcer, Michael Gable had a diamond draw.

The turn and river bricked {5-Clubs}, {9-Clubs}, respectively, and Gable was eliminated.

Hellman shot out of his chair when the river card hit the felt, screaming, "BOOOOOOOM!!! BOOOOOOOOM!!!"

It was a big boom for Hellman, who appears to have over 5 million chips.

Big Stacks Collide

Kyle Keranen opened to 50,000 under the gun and Robert Salaburu three-bet to 115,000 on the button. Action folded back to Keranen who four-bet to what looked to be about 300,000. Selaburu nearly beat him into the pot, immediately putting chips out next to Keranen's to match.

The {A-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{7-Diamonds} flop was checked by both players, landing the {Q-Spades} turn. Keranen put out chips to bet, Selaburu folded instantly, and Keranen took down the pot.

River Saves Legoff

Eric Legoff was just all in and at risk with {J-Spades}{10-Diamonds} against the {A-Spades}{10-Hearts} of Timothy Adams. The flop came an interesting {Q-Clubs}{10-Spades}{K-Spades}, pairing both and creating straight possibilities as well. By the {6-Hearts} turn, Legoff's supporters on the rail were starting to call for an ace.

The dealer then delivered the river... the {A-Hearts}. "Ace, ace, ace!" yelled the rail, and Legoff couldn't help but smile as he keeps his seat.

Calo Doubles Through Gonzalez

From middle position, Fabrizio Gonzalez raised to 48,000. Frank Calo reraised all in for 221,000 and play folded back to Gonzalez. He thought for a bit and then called with the {A-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}. Calo held the {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}.

The flop, turn and river ran out {J-Spades}{7-Hearts}{3-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} and Calo doubled back to over half a million in chips.
