Cornuth Slips, Paur Charging

We found Chance Kornuth in a hand that played to the river. The board was {9-Diamonds} {A-Hearts} {10-Spades} {4-Hearts} {6-Spades} and Cornuth ultimately mucked when his opponent tabled {A-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} for a pair of aces.

Taylor Paur picked up another pot on a {4-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} flop. His opponent checked and Paur bet 5,250. His opponent folded and Paul has chipped up significantly since the start of play.

Brian Minding His Table's Chips

We just watched Brian Meinders rake in a handy little pot over at his table. By the time we arrived, there was a {q-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{k-Spades} flop out on the felt and Meinders and two opponents were each committing 10,500. Meinders was in the big blind position, the small blind was still in the mix, along with a player in middle position. All three players then checked the {6-Hearts} turn and did the same on the {3-Hearts} river.

"I got a king," said Meinders.

That was enough to send the middle position's cards into the muck, while Meinders' other opponent waited a few moments before saying, "nut flush." It would have been a slow roll if that were possible, but the player turned over {a-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for a busted nut-flush draw.

Two Pair for Ho

On the turn with the board reading {Q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{5-Spades}, Maria Ho bet 3,800 and her lone opponent in the hand made the call to see the {A-Spades} land on the river. Ho checked and her opponent bet 8,200. Ho made the call.

Ho's opponent turned over the {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs} for a pair of aces on the river with a king kicker. Ho showed better with the {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} for two pair, fives and fours, and won the pot.

Diaz Drains Clock

David Diaz raised from early position to 1,200. A player in middle position made the call and the bib blind did the same. The three players were all witness to a {2-Spades}{A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} flop. It was here that the big blind checked and Diaz bet out 1,700. The middle position player made the call and the big blind threw out the white flag and folded.

The {9-Diamonds} on the turn saw both players tap the felt for checks.

The {9-Hearts} on the river brought with it another check from Diaz, and a bet of 5,000 from his opponent. Three minutes drained off the clock before Diaz mucked his cards. Despite this small set back, Diaz still sits with around a healthy 85,000.

Quick Hits from Brasilia

  • Eric Siegel and Chau Giang have both been eliminated. Giang went out after shoving {K-Hearts}{2-Spades} and getting called by a player holding the {K-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}. The board ran out {8-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{6-Spades}.
  • Abe Mosseri shoved the river on a {J-}{x-}{x-}{10-}{A-} board with pocket jacks, but his opponent immediately snapped him off with {K-}{Q-} for the nut straight. Mosseri lost a little over 40,000 on that hand and sits with 94,000 in chips.
  • Tim Killday is in the mix and up to 68,000 or so in chips. Not only does Killday have a killer last name, but he also came second in the World Series of Poker Circuit St. Louis Main Event for nearly $120,000.
  • After a player in middle position raised, Oscar Kemps raised all in for 13,775. His opponent tank-folded the {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts} and Kemps claimed to have a pair.

Negreanu Loses Chunk

Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

A player in early position raised to 1,300 and action folded around to Daniel Negreanu in the hijack position. Negreanu three-bet to 3,800. The table then folded its way back to the initial raiser who made the call.

The flop came {10-Spades}{q-Clubs}{5-Spades} and the early position player checked to start things out. Negreanu wasted no time and placed a bet of 5,700. The early position player then raised to 16,000. Negreanu asked to see the man's stack of chips and threw out a tower of orange t5,000 chips to put the man all in. Negreanu's opponent quickly called and was all in for around 17,000 more.

Negreanu: {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}
Opponent: {5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}

Negreanu held top pair top kicker, but his opponent had bottom set of fives for the best of it. The turn came the {2-Clubs} securing the double up for Negreanu's opponent. A meaningless {4-Spades} rolled off the deck for the river and Negreanu now sits right around 100,000.
