Klein Adds To His Stack

Businessman Bill Klein, who has made multiple appearances on the TV show High Stakes Poker is among the field today.

In a recent hand, Klein opened to 800 from the button and his opponent directly behind him in the small blind called. The player in the big folded for a heads-up pot.

The flop came {8-Clubs}{6-Spades}{8-Diamonds} and the player in the small donk-bet for 1,100. Klein called.

The turn brought the {5-Diamonds} and Klein's opponent led out again - this time for 1,500. Klein again called.

When the {9-Clubs} completed the board, Klein's opponent slowed down and checked.

"Twenty-two hundred," Klein announced.

"Call - you have a seven?" Klein's opponent asked.

Klein flipped over {A-Clubs}{A-Spades} and his opponent said, "Oh, that's good too," and tabled {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}.

Klein scooped the pot with his superior two pair and is currently sitting on 32,000.

Whats Going on in Orange?

Annette Obrestad
Annette Obrestad

A recent walk-through of the Orange Section has allowed us to gather a handful of chip counts. Including a Annette Obrestad double up.

We don't know exactly how the action went, but we do know Obrestad managed to get all in and at risk against an opponent holding {A-}{A-}. Obrestad's opponent possessed {K-}{k-} for second best. The board blanked out and Obrestad was awarded her double up. The young Norwegian pro has a long way to go though as her double up only put her at around 16,000.

Laak Loses One, But Still Doing Well

Phil Laak
Phil Laak

Phil Laak just dropped back to 66,000, but is still up more than double of what he started the day with.

From under the gun, Laak raised to 600 and found two callers, one in middle position and one in the cutoff seat. The flop came down {6-Hearts}{6-Spades}{2-Clubs} and Laak bet 1,000. The next player announced a raise and made it 1,600 to go, but was corrected by the dealer that he had to make it 2,000. He did so and the cutoff seat folded. Laak reraised and made it 6,050. His opponent called.

The turn was the {9-Diamonds} and both players checked. They also checked the {2-Spades} on the river. Laak showed the {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}, but lost to his opponent's {J-Hearts}{J-Spades}.

He's a Soul Man!

We caught up to the action to see World Series of Poker bracelet winner Fabrice Soulier heads up in a pot with the board reading {3-Spades}{J-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}. Soulier checked to his opponent who bet 1,000. Soulier raised to 2,100 and his opponent called.

Soulier took control of the hand with a bet of 2,700 on the turn when the board paired with the {J-Diamonds}. Another call was made and the {4-Spades} completed the board. Soulier bet 4,300 and his opponent tanked for over a minute.

Eventually a call was announced and Soulier casually tabled {A-Diamonds}{J-Spades} for trip jacks. His opponent mucked and Soulier took down the pot.

History Set to Repeat for Mizrachi?

Back in 2010, Michael Mizrachi won the $50,000 Poker Player's Championship, a feat he repeated this year, winning his second Poker Player's Championship title. After winning the event in 2010, he went on to make the final table of the World Series of Poker Main Event in the same year. Could history be repeating itself? It's only early days, but his 155,000-chip stack is a great start.

We aren't sure how Mizrachi acquired most of those chips, but we did just watch him use relentless aggression to take down two hands in a row. One of those hands saw a middle position player open the pot to 1,000. Mizrachi then three-bet to 2,000 from the cutoff. On the {2-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{4-Hearts} flop, Mizrachi's opponent checked and then called a bet of 5,000 from Mizrachi. The {10-Hearts} turn would see Mizrachi continue his betting, firing out 5,000. His opponent tank-folded and Mizrachi added a few more chips to his monster stack.
