Boika Leads Day 1a of WPT Prague, Ruzicka Not Far Behind

Nível 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
Aliaksei Boika
Aliaksei Boika

Day 1a of the partypoker.net World Poker Tour Prague Main Event saw 60 players show up, and Belarusian pro Aliaksei Boika bagged the chip lead with 99,500 among the 38 survivors. Boika was trailed closely by American Brian Senie (97,200) and local favorite Vojtech Ruzicka (93,000).

The first of two starting days had a slow start, but in the end every table was filled with top names. Plenty of WPT Champions Club members showed up, and some, like Giacomo Fundaro and Tony Dunst, busted out while others such as WPT Player of the Year Anthony Zinno (50,500) and Matas Cimbolas (70,900) made it through.

Dylan Linde and Stephen Chidwick were among the players that showed up for the first hand of play, but neither benefited from it. Chidwick was knocked out during the last level while Linde bagged up just 17,200. WSOP Millionaire Maker winner Jonathan Dimmig bagged up a comfortable 77,500, followed closely by Gaelle Baumann who ended on 77,100.

Late entrants Steve O'Dwyer (65,700) and Kevin MacPhee (67,500) had great starting days, as despite only playing a few hours they managed to double the 30,000 starting stack.

Play will resume tomorrow as Day 1b kicks off at 2:00 p.m. local time. Eight levels will be played, after which the field will combine for Day 2 with 90-minute levels on Thursday.

Scott Hanna raised to 1,025 and the player in the small blind called after which Vojtech Ruzicka three-bet to 3,925. Hanna responded by moving all in for 16,000, and Ruzicka made the call.

Ruzicka: {K-Clubs}{K-Hearts}
Hanna: {6-Spades}{6-Hearts}

The board ran out {9-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{Q-Spades} and Hanna hit the rail after just having chipped up a little bit this level.

"Now I'm gonna have to win the buy in back in the cash games," Hanna said with a smile before exiting the tournament area.

Tony Dunst's tournament life ended right before the dinner break, and he just told us what happened.

Dunst explained how the player on the button raised to 900, after which the small blind three-bet to 2,600. Dunst, seated in the big blind, three-bet all in for 8,000 and the button folded right away.

"The player in the small blind called," Dunst said, as the showdown went as following.

Dunst: {8-}{8-}
Opponent: {Q-Hearts}{J-Spades}

The board ran out {A-}{J-}{9-}{10-}{4-} and Dunst hit the rail.

Wang Comes Out Swinging

Nível 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Michael Wang
Michael Wang

WSOP bracelet winner Michael Wang just won a very nice pot, that started with a raise from early position by Scott Hanna. One player called the raise before Wang put in a three-bet from the big blind to 1,400. The initial raiser didn't waste much time making it 3,300, and the caller folded.

Wang went into the tank for a bit before calling the raise, and the flop brought out {Q-Hearts}{5-Spades}{2-Hearts}. Wang checked to Hanna who bet 3,300, and quickly he check-raised to 6,800.

Wang's check-raise was called, and the turn brought the {2-Diamonds}.

Wang moved forward a tall stack, with which he put Hanna all in. After a few minutes Wang's opponent called the clock on himself, and another 30 seconds later he opted to fold.

"That was the most difficult fold in the last," Hanna said before pausing, "In the last hour and a half."

The players at the table laughed, while Wang now sits on 53,000 chips.
