Dreiundzwanzig Luftballons...

Nível 2 : 50/100, 0 ante
Day 1A at the Villa Marina
Day 1A at the Villa Marina

"I'm working very hard, it's tough folding all these hands" said PokerStars Team SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo, winking as she folded yet another before remarking on the beauty of the venue and stopping to take a shot of ceiling.

"Look at all those balloons..." said the Dutch lady.

A member of the Rational Group Stuff on the same time table responded, "There's 23 yellow balloons up there...when you're playing cash games until 3.30am, you notice these things."

Meanwhile in the tournament, Full Tilt Poker Ambassador Martins Adeniya is one of the latest players to take his seat.

Straghalis Is Suited

Chris Straghalis

Chris Straghalis, Senior Manager of Poker Innovation & Projects, Poker Room Operations at PokerStars, is playing today after a strong 19th place finish last year for £4,800. Straghalis is without doubt one of the easiest players to spot in the field as he is dressed in a natty hat and a lurid green suit covered in an aces and poker chips print.

Straghalis was involved in an early pot demonstrating the fearlessness that got him so far last year and the confidence that allows him to get away with wearing such an innovative suit. Three players saw a flop of {6-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{2-Clubs} and when the small blind led out Straghalis raised him to 1,700. The small blind called and it went heads up to the turn card {3-Spades}. Checked to Straghalis he bet 2,300 and that got the job done.

Shuffle Up and Deal

Defending Champ McLellan
Defending Champ McLellan

Team PokerStars SportStar Fatima de Melo was awarded the privilege of addressing the players before the start of the tournament and after a brief speech she issued the instructions to, “Shuffle up and deal.”

PokerNews spoke to the defending champion Duncan McLellan just before the event started about his year since his victory. He told us that just four weeks after his win in the Isle of Man he took down the Nottingham Cup for £10,000 and numerous other deep runs have now put him at fifth place on the UKIPT Leader board. First place is entry to UKIPT events next year so he told us he had, “One eye on that and one eye on the money.”

McLellan was also in Vegas at the WSOP where he satellited into the Main Event and proudly showed us the watch he bought with the money he saved. McLellan is in a confident mood and fate has decreed that the player he beat heads-up last year, none other than de Melo, is sat at the same table as him today. They greeted each other warmly as play got underway and it wasn’t long before McLellan was stealing her big blind.

Welcome to the 2014 PokerStars.com UKIPT Isle of Man

The Main Room at Villa Marina - UKIPT Isle of Man
The Main Room at Villa Marina - UKIPT Isle of Man

Welcome to the UKIPT Isle of Man, here at the home of PokerStars which is hosting the event for the second time after their successful inaugural “Home Game” last year. The £350,000 guaranteed Main Event takes place in the beautiful Villa Marina from October 2nd to the 6th.

Team PokerStars SportStar Fatima de Melo finished in second place last year, narrowly losing out to Duncan McLellan who took home £94,090 for first place after beating a field of 379 entrants. McLellan beat one of the toughest ever UKIPT Main Event fields which included a number of Team PokerStars Pros such as Daniel Negreanu, David Williams, Vanessa Rousso and Jason Mercier.

Last year was the first time Rational Group Staff, parent company of PokerStars, were allowed to play in one of their own events and this year they are back to give it another crack. Christopher Jonat, who is in charge of managing Team PokerStars Online, made the final table and will no doubt be playing again alongside four of those Team Online Pros and nine PokerStars Team Pros.

Cards are in the air at 12 p.m. with a starting stack of 20,000 and a scheduled ten 60-minute levels of play before the surviving players bag up their chips for the night. Single re-entry is allowed into day 1B for players who are eliminated from 1A. Players who are eliminated on day 1B cannot re-enter.
