Alan Gold Wins UKIPT Galway! (€187,494)

Nível 28 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Winner of Full Tilt Poker UKIPT Galway - Alan Gold
Winner of Full Tilt Poker UKIPT Galway - Alan Gold

Scotland's Alan Gold started the UKIPT final table as the chip leader and less than four hours later he was the only player left standing after one of the fastest final tables the UKIPT has ever seen. Gold, who had also been the chip leader after the first day, blitzed his way through the opposition in such an aggressive manner that it was almost impossible for anyone to fight back. Gold was never afraid to risk everything, even early on, and got into multiple raising wars with the other big stacks. Gold mainly plays pot-limit Omaha on PokerStars but qualified for this event through Full Tilt – meaning he won the Full Tilt Last Longer Prize and now has free entries to all the remaining stops for the fourth season of the UKIPT to go with the €187,494 which he took for first place after striking a deal heads up.

It took less than 30 minutes for us to lose our first player, Jonathan Slater. He was on the wrong end of an awful cooler very early on. Slater held {7-Hearts}{7-Spades} on a {Q-Spades}{10-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} and was more than happy to get his chips in against Dimitri Pembroke, but the latter held {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} for top set leaving Slater with just one out. “I'd really like a seven please,” Slater requested but the dealer was not forthcoming with the case card and instead Slater left the table in eighth place winning €16,500 for his troubles.

Next to be knocked out was Christy Morgan, a local Galway player who is a rare beast in that he only plays live – never online. Morgan had shoved his short stack into the middle over the top of Paul Febers' cutoff raise and had himself seemed very confident. Febers made a crying call with ace-ten but was happy to find himself ahead of Morgan's ace-nine. The board came A-2-J-K-Q and Febers rivered a straight to leave us with six players.

Benjamin Spragg was eliminated in sixth place, he'd played a hand passively against Gold hoping to trap only for the latter to overtake him and turn two pair to win a huge pot. Spragg's last remaining chips went in with {A-Hearts}{6-Clubs} against Daragh Davey's {A-Spades}{9-Clubs} but he was unable to spike on a {J-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} board.

Damian Porebski was out after this, he had four-bet all in over the top of an Gold button reraise but found himself outkicked and was knocked out in fifth place for €45,300.

This left just four players: Gold, Febers, Davey and Pembroke – the latter two supremely short and just trying to survive while Gold and Febers continued to tussle. Eventually something had to give and it was Pembroke who fell next, albeit in unlucky circumstances.

Pembroke moved all in from under the gun for just over 1.9 million and it was folded to Gold in the small blind who made the call. Gold flipped {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} but he was dominated by Pembroke's {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}, the latter looking to be in good shape to double up but the {10-Spades}{9-Spades}{4-Spades}{4-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} board proved otherwise as Gold caught a three-outer to increase his chip lead.

The very next hand Davey fell to Gold in a coinflip as Davey's short-stack shove with king-jack was upended by Gold's pocket tens as the board came {6-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}.

Heads up saw Gold with 12 million in chips against Febers' 4.755 million, and consistent with their battles earlier on, it was brief, bloody and with big pots. The final hand saw Gold turn trips against Febers' two pair and that was enough to seal the deal.

With that, it's the end of the Full Tilt Poker Festival here in Galway, the wonderful poker village is slowly being dismantled around us but we're going to try and take one last shot at beating Gus Hansen's Pac-Man score. Wish us luck!

Paul Febers Eliminated in 2nd Place (€149,906)

Nível 28 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Paul Febers
Paul Febers

Alan Gold opened to 160,000 and Paul Febers three-bet to 400,000 but the latter folded when Gold four-bet to 880,000.

Febers opened to 160,000 from the button in the next hand and Gold made the call to see a {Q-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{5-Spades} flop. Gold checked and Febers fired another 160,000 but Gold then check-raised to 450,000. Febers thought and then made the call to see the {Q-Clubs} on the turn. Gold led out this time for a substantial 775,000 and Febers again made the call.

The river was the {K-Diamonds} which didn't really look as though it had changed much, Gold thought for a minute before moving all in. Febers began to hastily count his remaining stack, he'd have somethng close to 2 million left if he folded. Finally he opted to make the call.

Gold: {Q-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}
Febers: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}

Gold's three queens had proved good enough and meant that Paul Febers was out in second place.

Daragh Davey

In the very next hand after Dimitri Pembroke fell, Irish favorite Daragh Davey joined him on the rail.

It happened when Davey shipped all in from the button for roughly 1.2 million. Paul Febers folded the small blind and Alan Gold snap-called from the big.

Gold: {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Davey: {k-Spades}{j-Clubs}

It was a classic flip and the entire room was up on its feet to watch the flop, which fell {6-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}. Gold's ten got through the tough part, but there were still two cards to come. The {9-Diamonds} turn was no help to Davey meaning it was down to the river. The dealer burned one last time and put out the {2-Diamonds}. Just like that we're down to heads-up play.

In addition, Davey's elimination means that Gold has won the FTP Qualifier Last Longer Sponsorship Promotion and will receive a prize package including buy-ins and expenses to every remaining stop on the UKIPT Season 4.

Dimitri Pembroke Eliminated in 4th Place (€62,000)

Nível 28 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Dimitri Pembroke
Dimitri Pembroke

Dimitri Pembroke shoved all in under the gun for 1.905 million, which was a big enough bet to get Paul Febers to fold. Alan Gold then looked down at his cards in the small blind, asked for an exact count, shrugged and made the call. Daragh Davey quickly folded the big blind.

Pembroke: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}
Gold: {a-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

Pembroke managed to get his stack in as a dominant favorite. In fact, according to the PokerNews Odds Calculator, he was a 72.37% favorite to double on the hand. Unfortunately for him, the cards had other plans as the {10-Spades}{9-Spades}{4-Spades} flop paired Gold's ten.

Suddenly Gold was an 82.42% favorite. The {4-Hearts} turn was of no consequence, and Pembroke needed a king on the river to stay alive. This is an elimination post so you already know that one did come. Instead it was the {Q-Clubs} and Pembroke had to settle for fourth place.

Damian Porebski

Damian Porebski bet 185,000 from first position and faced a raise from Alan Gold on the button to 425,000. The Blinds folded and when it got back to Porebski he re-raised all-in only to be quickly called by chip leader Gold.

Porebski had {a-Diamonds}{10-Spades} against Gold’s {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}. The board ran out {9-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{7-Spades}{2-Spades}. to send the Polish Full Tilt qualifier home in fifth. He left to a warm round of applause having lasted over 3 days of fantastic poker.

Gold now has over 7.5m chips.

Benjamin Spragg - 6th Place

"All my monies," Benjamin Spragg said before committing his last 370,000 or so in the last hand of Level 26. One by one his opponents folded until action reached Daragh Davey, who snap-called from the big blind.

Spragg: {a-Hearts}{6-Clubs}
Davey: {a-Spades}{9-Clubs}

Spragg's supporters, of which there were quite a few, were up on their feet and calling for a six. The {j-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{k-Hearts} flop didn't provide one, but it did inspire Spragg to request a ten and queen to chop. Right on cue the dealer burned and turned the {10-Hearts}. The rail buzzed with excitement not only because their man got one of his cards, but also because he picked up the nut-flush draw.

There were a lot of cards that could help the man from Stroud in Gloucestershire, but the {8-Diamonds} was not one of them. Spragg's rail moaned with disappointment as their man shook hands with the remaining players and then exited in sixth place.

It was passed around to Paul Febers in the cutoff who raised to 100,000. Christy Morkan moved all in from the button for 490,000 and it was folded back to Febers who tanked for a couple of minutes while Morkan looked very confident.

Finally Febers made the call.

Febers: {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Morkan: {A-Spades}{9-Spades}

The boardcame {A-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{J-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} and Febers made a straight on the river to win the pot while Morkan went out in 7th plac

Jonathan Slater Eliminated in 8th Place (€16,500)

Jonathan Slater

Jonathan Slater, a 25-year-old professional poker player from Chidwell, Essex, just busted the final table in a brutal set-over-set hand.

It began when Slater opened for 100,000 from the hijack only to have Dimitri Pembroke three-bet him to 215,000 from the cutoff. The button and both blinds folded, and Slater called to see a flop of {q-Spades}{10-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}. Slater checked, Pembroke bet 235,000 and Slater woke up with a check-raise to 500,000, leaving himself about 900,000 back. Pembroke announced that he was all in and Slater couldn't get his chips in fast enough.

The entire rail were on their feet and gasped when the cards were flipped. Slater had flopped a set with the {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}, but it was no good as Pembroke had top set with the {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}.

"I'd really like a seven please," Slater said as he stood from his chair. The dealer did not oblige and instead put out the {6-Spades} on the turn. "So close," Slater said. Indeed it was, but not close enough. Neither was the {5-Clubs} river.

Slater shook hands with the remaining players and then made his way to the payout desk in eighth place.
