When to Limp UTG

Nível 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

This isn’t a play you see advised by many strategy books, but it happens, and it happened here at the UKIPT Main Event. Under the gun, Kenneth Coote limped for 150. He got 5 callers including the blinds and we saw a 6 way flop of {9-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}. The blinds checked and Coote bet 350 finding only one caller in the shape of Owen Fenwick. {8-Clubs} was the turn and again Coote bet, now 650 and was called once more by Fenwick. The river was the {5-Hearts}, 1,250 the bet from Coote. Fenwick made his move and raised to 4,050. Coote wasn’t a believer though and made the call. Prompted by the dealer to reveal his cards Fenwick eventually showed {3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} and was way behind Coote’s {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}.

Kelly Gets His Call

Nível 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

Adam Kelly from the Isle of Man bet 600 on a board of {8-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} and was raised to 2,250 by Gabriel Girigan, a Romanian Qualifier. Kelly quickly moved all in and started the chat. “I don’t know what to say,” he exclaimed, “I just want all your chips. No I want you to stay at the table really.” How much this influenced Girigan’s decision is hard to say, but he called and tabled {a-Hearts}{a-Spades} and was in desperate shape against the flopped top set of Kelly’s {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}. The turn {7-Spades} and river {2-Clubs} bust Girigan and added nicely to Kelly’s stack.

Lewis Busted

Nível 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

David Lewis was already all in before the river of a {10-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades} board. Matas Cimbolas had checked and Tomasz Chmiel had bet 8,200 into a large pot with around 15,000 in the middle.

Cimbolas tanked for a few minutes before folding and Chmiel comfortably turned over {10-Spades}{10-Hearts} for quads. Lewis flashed {A-Clubs}{K-Spades} before sending it into muck.

It's the end of the road for Daniel Negreanu he was all in with {A-}{10-} against Stephen Woodhead's {A-}{9-} but the latter spiked a nine to win the pot. Anthony Nicholls was also all in during the same hand but the dealer mucked his cards before we could see what he had.

King Negreanu

Nível 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

Daniel Negreanu is hanging on to his tournament life by a thread with just 800 chips left but is still in high spirits, contributing to a discussion on how to play kings. Fellow Canadian Radu Zamostean had just won a small pot with kings, flopping a set on an ace high board. Unfortunately no one had an ace and he showed his cards in frustration. It was the fact that he had flatted a raise pre-flop and let other players into the pot that irked Anthony Nicholls who didn’t like the play. “You don’t want four players in the pot. They could hit two pair or all sorts.”

Daniel disagreed. “I like the play. I like danger.” He said. “Bring me forty players in the pot. I have kings!”

A few hands later Negreanu was all in, and wouldn’t you know he was called by Nicholls. “I have kings.” said Negreanu turning over the {k-Spades} and a beat later the {2-Hearts}. Nicholls showed {a-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}. The board ran out {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{3-Spades} and a chuckling Kid Poker doubled up.
