Welcome to the Isle of Man for the first ever UKIPT here, the home of the Manx. The Isle of Man is also where PokerStars is based and they have lined up an entire smorgasbord of talent with which to take on the field in this five-day event.
PokerStars Team Pros expected to be playing on one of the two start days include the newly crowned WSOP Player of the Year, Daniel Negreanu, who won his sixth bracelet barely a week ago. He'll be joined by, amongst others, Jason Mercier, Liv Boeree and Jake Cody who will all be looking to join us on Day 1b. Today though, PokerStars Team Online will be representing the brand as Andre Coimbra and former EPT winner Mickey Petersen are both playing.
The tournament has a £500,000 guarantee but it remains to be seen if this is will be made. If not, there will be a tasty overlay for all the players involved. One thing is for sure, with so many of the Team Pros taking a shot at this event, it looks like it could be one of the toughest fields ever seen at a UKIPT.

It's fairly quiet in here so far with around 11 tables of action going. We're expecting more players to drift in as the players decide to jump in late after lunch.

With a starting stack of 20,000 and blinds starting at 25/50 there’s a lot of time to chip up and see some flops, but it doesn’t always work out that way. On table 4 two players got into a pre-flop raising war and action went all the way to the river.
From the cut-off, Jacob Hicklin from The Isle of Man was first to enter the pot and raised to 125. He was then three bet to 400 by David Kilpatrick in the small blind. The big blind left them to it and Hicklin decided to four bet to 1,100. Back to Kilpatrick and we saw a five bet to 2,500. It looked for a moment like we might see all the chips in the middle on the first level, but Hicklin decided to see a flop in position and just called.
The table fell respectfully quiet as the dealer dealt a flop of 
. The Kilpatrick checked as did seat Hicklin. The turn was the 
. Again Kilpatrick checked and this time seat Hicklin decided to bet a small 1,600 which was called. The turn was the 
and now the Kilpatrick led out for a chunky 6,050.
There was no instant fold so it looked like Hicklin had been put in a horrible spot. He riffled his chips and studied first the board, then his opponent who sat stock still. Puffing out his cheeks he exhaled noisily and put out the call prompting Kilpatrick to turn over 
for the nut flush. It was good enough on the paired board. A very nice pot for Kilpatrick and some rebuilding to be done for Hicklin, who received a consoling “Plenty of time.” from another player.
Patched Up and Raring to Go

One thing that is different about this event is the fact that there are a whole of host of players wearing patches that say PokerStars Staff with the Manx flag.
This is because, for this one event only, people who work for PokerStars are allowed to play the UKIPT (staff are usually not allowed to play) but to show complete transparency to everyone playing the staff are all patched up as thus.
So far today, there looks to be at least 10-15 players who have taken advantage of this one time shot and are involved in the event.

Awarded the Pot

PokerStars qualifier Thomas Ward just picked up a nice pot, he fired 1,600 on the river of a 
after fellow qualifier Steven Ridgway checked. The latter made the call but could only muck when Ward showed 
for a missed flush draw that had turned top pair.
