Brazil's Pedro "pvigar" Garagnani defeated Peru's Diego "Die Ventura" Ventura heads-up in the WCOOP-04-H: $5,200 NLHE High Roller at PokerStars for $195,690. The event itself was an early success story for the 2021 World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) with 200 entries meeting the lofty $1 million guaranteed prize pool.

This was the second career WCOOP title for the Brazilian after previously winning the WCOOP-76-L NLHE 6-Max PKO Turbo in 2017 for $45,980.

Garagnani entered the final table with the chip lead, but it wasn't all smooth sailing for the champion as early on at the final table the lead bounced between two other previous WCOOP winners in Ventura and Christian "WATnlos" Rudolph.

Eventually, Garagnani snagged the lead back with three players remaining and the lead went back-and-forth during a marathon heads-up battle lasting nearly 100 minutes en route to the title.

Final Table Action

The final table was a deep-stacked affair with players starting with an average stack of 46 big blinds and blinds increasing slowly at 30 minutes each.

Sam "Str8$$$Homey" Greenwood was quickly out the door soon after things began on a bad beat when his cowboys were unable to hold against Rudolph's big slick. David "dpeters17" Peters, Pascal "Päffchen" Hartmann, Dinesh "NastyMinder" Alt, were the next players to hit the rail.

During four-handed play, Ventura jammed with five-three suited from the small blind. Michel "FreeLancerZZ" Dattani called off for nearly 14 big blinds from the big blind with ace-deuce suited and was eliminated after Ventura flopped a straight flush.

Ventura then ousted Rudolph in third place after winning a flip with tens against king-queen suited.

Epic Marathon Heads-Up Battle

Diego Ventura
Diego \"Die Ventura\" Ventura finishes runner-up

Ventura began the heads-up battle with nearly double the chips of Garagnani. The duo quickly discussed a deal early but action resumed after the players were unable to agree on figures. The lead then changed several times and at one point it seemed like Ventura would be the one to win his second WCOOP title instead of Garagnani.

Garagnani was down to just 10 big blinds when he doubled up with king-queen against Ventura's king-six to get back into the mix. After a bit more of back-and-forth, Garagnani had Ventura down to 10 big blinds when Ventura made an ill-timed bluff to bring his stack down to a single big blind.

Ventura doubled his small stack twice before time ran out with his king-five not holding against nine-six.
