Field of 52 to Become Final Six in Penultimate Day of PSPC

Tom Parsons
Tom Parsons

Welcome to Day 4 of the PokerStars Players No-Limit Hold’em Championship (PSPC), which kicks off inside the wonderful Baha Mar Resort at 12 p.m. ET.

From the original field of 1,014, just 52 players are returning for the penultimate day of the PSPC, and in pole position is Petar Kalev. The Bulgarian raced into the chip lead late on in Day 3 when it looked like he would be one of the last casualties of the day. He wrapped up the session with 3,360,000 and is the only player above the 3 million mark.

His four-bet jam with ace-three suited was called by Fedor Holz, who had ace-king. Kalev would go onto river a flush to collect the pot when it looked like he would be the one heading to the rail.

Had Holz won the pot, he would have been sitting on a stack of 4,500,000. To put it into perspective, MSPT Hall of Famer Blake Bohn finished second in chips with 2,800,000, so the German would've had a fair bit of distance between himself and the rest of the pack.

Rounding out the top three chip stacks is high stakes cash game player Dylan Destefano. Just three big blinds seperate him and Bohn and he will be looking for more of the same today.

Just one PokerStars ambassador also remains in contention, and that player is Sam Grafton. He bagged and tagged a stack of 1,590,000 and is on the periphary of the top ten chip counts.

Remaining PSPC Platinum Pass Winners

Hundreds of players were able to participate in this prestigious event thanks to getting their hands on a coveted Platinum Pass. However, just 16 of those have survived to this stage of the event.

Many of you who follow the poker tournament circuits would have heard of Dominik Nitsche before, and he makes up one of the 16 who are in The Bahamas thanks to a Platinum Pass. He ended up with 2,360,000 which is currently good for fourth-place.

Another Platinum Pass holder who sits in the upper echelons of the field is Tom "PredPoker" Parsons (2,265,000). He pulled off an impressive spin up on Day 3 after it looked like he may have been one of the players to bubble. By the end of the day though, he was just one of the seven players to bag more than two million and will be having dreams of capturing the $4,053,200 first-place prize.

Remaining Payouts

The PSPC generated an almighty prize pool of $24,843,000 and those who are left have locked themselves a payday of at least $70,700. But of course, each player will be doing all they can to make Day 5, where the top six players guarantee themselves a seven-figure payout.

The next pay jump occurs when 39 players remain, which sees the payout increase to $81,400. The payouts hit the six-figure threshold when the tournament reaches its final 27 players.

Day 4 will kick off at noon local time on Level 23 with blinds of 20,000/40,000 and a 40,000 big blind ante. The day is expected to play until just six players remain, but of course, this is subject to change based on the pace of play. All levels remain 60 minutes in length, with a scheduled 20-minute break after every two levels.

Be sure to tune in here to follow the PokerNews live reporting team for up-to-date action throughout the event as we get closer to crowning a new PSPC champion in The Bahamas.

Bruno Volkmann
Bruno Volkmann

Bruno Volkmann opened to 80,000 from under the gun and was called by Aliaksandr Shylko from the small blind.

Shylko check-called for 50,000 on the {8-Clubs}{3-Spades}{3-Hearts} flop, before the {7-Diamonds} turn checked through to the {4-Hearts} river.

Shylko bet out 50,000 and after using up a time bank, Volkmann jammed for 350,000 and was snap-called.

Volkmann turned over his {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for ace-high while Shylko rivered a full house with his {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}.

Chance Kornuth

Daniel Dvoress opened to 120,000 from the small blind before Chance Kornuth jammed for around 800,000 from the big blind. Dvoress quickly called.

Chance Kornuth: {q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
Daniel Dvoress: {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}

Kornuth had mistimed his jam as Dvoress had a premium holding. He found no help on the {10-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} flop and was drawing dead on the {2-Clubs} turn. The {a-Diamonds} river completed the board and Kornuth exited the PSPC.

Death By Quads for Gong

Jiachen Gong

Philipe Pizzari opened to 80,000 from under the gun before Jiachen Gong jammed for around 400,000 from the big blind. Pizzari called.

Jiachen Gong: {a-Spades}{j-Hearts}
Philipe Pizzari: {a-Hearts}{9-Clubs}

"You like ace-nine," said Gong as the cards were tabled.

Gong was in great shape for a double up but was immediately drawing thin after Pizzari made trips on the {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}{2-Spades} flop.

The {9-Diamonds} turn gave Pizzari quads and the checkmark for the pot.

"I see why you like it," commented Gong as the dealer finished the board off with the {k-Clubs}.

Jonathan Jaffe was all in and at risk for around 600,000 against the bigger-stacked Dylan Destefano.

Jonathan Jaffe: {q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}
Dylan Destefano: {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

The flop landed {10-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{5-Spades} to give both players pairs but for Destefano to maintain the lead. The board finished out {4-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} and a queen on the river gave Jaffe the best hand to keep him alive.

Lucas Silva raised from the cutoff and called when Fedor Holz moved all-in on the button for 870,000.

Fedor Holz: {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
Lucas Silva: {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}

Holz picked up a straight draw on the {k-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{7-Hearts} flop, which was quickly completed on the {q-Spades} turn. The river {j-Hearts} changed nothing, as Holz scored the early double up.

Marcello Del Grosso

Marcello Del Grosso opened from under the gun and was called by Renato Minicuci on his direct left. Philipe Pizzari called from the big blind as well.

Del Grosso continued for 95,000 on the {a-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{j-Spades} flop and only Minicuci called. On the {3-Diamonds} turn, Del Grosso sized up to 260,000 on the turn and again Minicuci called.

The {5-Diamonds} river prompted Del Grosso to continue the aggression, and he put another 525,000 in the pot. After some thinking time, Minicuci gave up.

"This American Doesn't Believe Any of You Euros"

Nível 23 : Blinds 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Tony Tran
Tony Tran

Tony Tran opened to 80,000 from middle position and Fedor Holz three-bet to 225,000 from the next seat. Mehdi Violleau then four-bet jammed a stack of around 400,000 from the small blind and Tran quickly five-bet jammed for around 1,200,000 to send Holz deep into the tank.

"Fedor, can you take like one minute so I can go get water?" asked Nacho Barbero as he darted away from the table. Holz obliged and put out two 30-second time banks but soon found him grabbing several more as Tran grew impatient.

"How many does he got?" Tran grumbled before Holz folded.

Mehdi Violleau: {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}
Tony Tran: {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}

Violleau had Tran pipped and nothing changed on the {6-Spades}{5-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{j-Spades}{k-Spades} runout to earn Violleau the pot as Holz revealed he folded jacks (the stream later confirmed Holz indeed folded {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}).

"Thank you Fedor!" said Violleau.

"You guys should be happy," said Tran. "This American doesn't believe any of you Euros."

Platinum Pass winner Omar Del Pino’s short stack was in the middle against Blake Bohn in a blind battle as the hands were turned up.

Omar Del Pino: {5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}
Blake Bohn: {4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}

Del Pino had Bohn dominated until the {a-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{2-Clubs} flop produced a pair of deuces. The {k-Spades} turn and {7-Spades} river were no help, ending Del Pino’s run.

Magnus Flips for a Double

Nadya Magnus
Nadya Magnus

Dylan Destefano raised to 110,000 in the cutoff and Nadya Magnus shoved all in for 1,100,000 in the small blind. Maxi Lehmanski re-shoved all in for 2,135,000 in the big blind and Destefano gave it some thought before folding.

Nadya Magnus: {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}
Maxi Lehmanski: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

It was a coin flip and the flop of {j-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{5-Hearts} left Magnus in the lead with her pair of sevens. The {4-Hearts} on the turn and the {5-Spades} on the river changed nothing and Magnus let out a sigh relief as she doubled up.
