Miguel Zarzar Leads at the End of Day 1a of the PokerStars Festival Chile Main Event! (Completo)

Nível 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Miguel Zarzar
Miguel Zarzar

The opening day of the PokerStars Festival Chile $500,000 guaranteed Main Event has come to an end, and Miguel Zarzar leads the way with 228,000 chips. Sergio Dabio Tello is close behind in second (200,200), with Juan Parra (159,400) rounding out the top three stacks.

Zarzar quietly chipped up throughout the day, and eventually found himself at the top of the counts. His infectious laugh was noticed by everyone in the room, and will be a welcomed personality as play gets deeper on Day 2. Tello was responsible for eliminating Alex Vega midway through the day, cracking his pocket kings with eight-three off suit after turning two pair. He held on to his massive stack and managed to finish second in chips. Parra found a double up after flopping a set in a hand with Norberto Korn and never really looked back, finishing with a top three stack and earning himself a well-deserved day off tomorrow.

A total of 139 entries were counted after eight levels of play, and just 43 were left at the end of the night. These remaining players will move on to Day 2 on Thursday at noon. It is also important to note that any players who advanced will not be able to play again on Day 1b tomorrow.

The prizepool is guaranteed at $500,000, and there is most certainly a chance for that number to increase by the end of registration tomorrow.

Team PokerStars Pro, and PokerStars Festival Chile High Roller champion, Leo Fernandez, won a title in four hands of heads up play and hopped right in to the Main Event. He chipped up for the better part of the day but then lost some flips and found himself on the rail.

Some of the notable players who have moved on to Day 2 include LAPT champion Alex Manzano (145,200), PokerStars online qualifier Robert Heidorn (108,300), high roller Tadeo Palomares (79,000), LAPT champion Richard Dubini (72,200), high roller Norberto Korn (71,900), PokerStars Festival Chile High Roller runner up, Rodrigo Borquez (52,100), LAPT champion Andres Jeckeln (51,600), and Argentinian pro Fernando Gordo (35,200).

The tournament opened with about 40 entries, but this number quickly grew by more than three times. While there was plenty of play between the deep stacks and hour-long blind levels, that did not stop players from getting in on the action early in the day. Several notable players who did not make it through but were in the field today included LAPT high rollers, Oscar Alache, and Amos Ben, as well as Joaquin Earcena, Alan Manuel Mehamed, and Javier Swett.

Day 1b is set to get started at noon tomorrow, and the structure will remain the same as today. At the end of eight levels, registration will close completely and the tournament staff will calculate the prizepool. A full table draw and payouts will be posted on PokerNews, so keep following along as we bring you all of the live updates on the way to crowning the next PokerStars Festival champion in beautiful Vina del Mar, Chile!

The High Roller Champion is Out

Nível 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Team PokerStars Pro, Leo Fernandez
Team PokerStars Pro, Leo Fernandez

Team PokerStars Pro, Leo Fernandez, had a great start to the day after he took down the $3,300 High Roller for $20,950, the title, and bragging rights. He added a third high roller title to his resume, and was in good spirits as he sat down in the Main Event.

Fernandez wasn't able to end the day on a high note though, as he was just seen on the rail after explaining he lost a flip for his last 20 big blinds.

Day 1b is scheduled for tomorrow at noon, so there is plenty of time for the champ to give it another shot.

Javier Swett Eliminated by PokerStars Qualifier Robert Heidorn

Nível 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Javier Swett
Javier Swett

Javier Swett was all in before the flop, and was called by Robert Heidorn.

Heidorn tabled [thdh] and Swett revealed {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}.

Swett was the player risk, and the flop of {3-Spades}{2-Hearts}{2-Clubs} looked pretty safe for him. The turn, however, was the {10-Clubs} and Heidorn took a dominating lead.

The river was the {7-Hearts} and Swett was sent to the rail.

Heidorn hails from Germany and qualified online on PokerStars through a series of satellites.

Korn Fills Up

Nível 7 : 300/600, 100 ante
Norberto Korn
Norberto Korn

Tarek Sleiman was on the button and raised to 1,300. Norberto Korn called from the small blind, as did the player in the big blind.

The flop came {k-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{3-Hearts} and action checked to Sleiman, who bet 1,500. Both Korn and the big blind called.

The turn was the {6-Spades}, and all three players checked to the river, which was the {7-Clubs}. Korn led out for 2,500 and the big blind snap-called. Sleiman reached into his stack and raised to 14,000. Korn wasted no time and four-bet to 28,500. The big blind folded, and Sleiman went into the tank. He counted his chips out and based on the expression on his face, he was clearly torn about the decision. Eventually, Sleiman folded.

Korn raked in the pot and decided to show the table his hand, revealing {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} for a full house, sevens full of sixes. Sleiman smiled and the two players exchanged some words.

The field continues to grow, with more and more players eyeing up the massive $500,000 guaranteed prizepool.

Among these players is high roller and Latin America Poker Tour champion, Alex Manzano. The Chilean pro has an impressive resume, including an LAPT Main Event win from 2011 in Brazil, a high roller win from the 2014 Latin Poker Series Millions II in Panama, a European Poker Tour €10,300 Pot Limit Omaha title, as well as a World Series of Poker circuit ring from Uruguay.

Manzano fired the PokerStars Festival Chile $3,300 High Roller a few days ago and fell just two spots from the money, so look for him to chase yet another title in his home country.

Richard Dubini
Richard Dubini

Argentinian pro, Richard Dubini, has pulled up a seat early on, and looks to add to his decorated poker resume.

Dubini is a three-time High Roller champion, with two wins in Argentina and one in Brazil, and also holds a European Poker Tour title from Barcelona. He took a shot in the High Roller yesterday but the cards didn't fall his way. Dubini has just shy of a million dollars in earnings, so a deep run in this event could potentially allow him to reach that milestone.
