Richardson Leads Last 70 After Day 3; Sorrentino and Akkari in Contention

Nível 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Benjamin Richardson

Day 3 of the 2017 PokerStars Championship Barcelona €5,300 Main Event is in the books and six levels of 90 minutes reduced the field of hopefuls from 287 to just 70 hopefuls. Each of them have already has €18,190 locked up for the efforts, but all eyes are set on the PokerStars Championship trophy and payday of €1,410,000 that comes along with it.

Best-positioned to claim the title in Casino Barcelona is Benjamin Richardson from Australia, who bagged up impressive 2,804,000. He is followed by Tsugunari Toma (2,448,000) while Scott Wellenbach is the third player above two million with 2,032,000. Other big stacks include Aleksandr Gofman (1,915,000), Patrick Leonard (1,785,000), Nadia Wanzi (1,657,000), Brian Kaufman Esposito (1,465,000), Albert Daher (1,382,000), Usman Siddique (1,296,000) and Alex DiFelice (865,000).

Raffaele Sorrentino, who lifted the PokerStars Championship trophy in Monte Carlo, also made it through with a healthy stack of 955,000 while PokerStars Team Pro Andre Akkari spent most of the day on the TV table and advanced with 566,000. Jeff Gross, the only other PokerStars Team Pro that headed into Day 3, was among the 40 players that left the annex of Casino Barcelona empty-handed still.

Other notables that didn't cash include Steven van Zadelhoff, Per Hildebrand, Joni Jouhkimainen, Mikita Badziakouski, Upeshka De Silva and Diego Ventura. The bubble lasted over more than two hours and it was Roi Pereira Conde that ended up as the bubble boy. After several double ups on other tables, the Spaniard put his hopes on ten-seven suited flush draw on a paired jack-high flop. Alexandros Papadopoulos had ace-three suited for the better flush draw and the river provided a third spade to eliminate Pereira Conde as last player without cash.

Soon after, Akin Tuna skyrocketed to the top of the counts after he won a big pot with pocket sixes against the pocket fours of Rafael Bertani. Frederico Spilimbergo Volpe became the next chip millionaire when he flopped trips and rivered a full house with jack-nine suited, Georges Hanna bluffed off his stack with eight-four suited for complete air. Tuna himself had a big clash with Scott Wellenbach and busted in the last level of the night, finishing 85th for €15,490.

Nadia Wanzi won several big pots, one of which saw the elimination of World Series of Poker bracelet winner Asi Moshe with ace-ten suited against her ace-king, and soon after the rise to the top of Benjamin Richardson began. Rosen Angelov's big stack melted in three hands against Richardson, and the Aussie eventually finished the job soon after. Richardson's big raise saw Angelov call all in with pocket eights, Dirk Gerritse moved all in over the top for heaps with pocket tens and Richardson quickly called with pocket kings to claim a massive pot.

Among those to cash were Sam Greenwood (223rd - €9,400), Dario Sammartino (211th - €9,400), Thomas Muehloecker (198th - €9,400), Tobias Peters (148th - €10,270), Saar Wilf (144th - €10,270), Day 1a chip leader Xavier Carriere (105th - €13,380), Govert Metaal (101st - €13,380), Mihails Morozovs (81st - €15,490), 2017 2017 PokerStars Championship Sochi 4th place finisher Dmitry Vitkind (80th - €15,490), Juha Helppi (79th - €15,490) and Jussi Nevanlinna (73rd - €15,490).

When all was done and dusted at the end of level 20, only 70 hopefuls bagged up chips and they will return tomorrow at 12 p.m. noon local time for Day 4 when at least five levels of 90 minutes each will be played. The action recommences with blinds of 8,000/16,000 and a running ante of 2,000, and the PokerNews live reporting team will be on the floor as usual.

Toma and Richardson Lead the Pack

Nível 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Rosen Angelov No More
Rosen Angelov No More

Samuel Vousden was all in for the remainder of his short stack and tabled {2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}. Tsugunari Toma in the big blind called and tabled {A-Spades}{8-Spades}, and the board came {J-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{8-Diamonds}.

While Toma has a ton of chips, there is always one with more. Benjamin Richardson knocked out Rosen Angelov and Dirk Gerritse in a big pot. According to Richardson, he raised to four times the big blind and Angelov called all in for less from one seat over. Gerritse in the small blind reshoved for 600,000 with pocket tens and Richardson snapped him off with kings, Angelov only had pocket eights.

Sorrentino and Helppi Rising

Nível 19 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Raffaele Sorrentino
Raffaele Sorrentino

Raffaele Sorrentino raised to 22,000 and Erik Friberg made it 60,000 to go from one seat over, which the Italian called. On the flop of {A-Hearts}{4-Spades}{2-Spades}, Sorrentino checked and called a bet of 55,000 by Friberg before the {6-Diamonds} turn and {10-Clubs} river were checked through. Sorrentino showed {4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} for a set and won the pot.

Juha Helppi also bumped his stack up nicely. It started rather innocent with a raise by Dirk Gerritse from under the gun and a call by Rosen Angelov on the button, as well as a call by Helppi from the big blind. By the time the turn showed {10-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, Helppi checked and Gerritse bet 80,000. Rosen called and Helppi then check-shoved for 231,000 to force folds from both opponents,

Hanna Makes a Move with Eight-Four, Busts

Nível 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Frederico Spilimbergo Volpe
Frederico Spilimbergo Volpe

Georges Hanna opened from middle position and Frederico Spilimbergo Volpe in the cutoff and Dimitrios Michailidis in the big blind both called.

The flop came {Q-Spades}{J-Spades}{J-Hearts} and Michailidis checked. Hanna bet 25,000 and Volpe called, Michailidis folded.

With the {4-Clubs} landing on the turn, Hanna checked. Volpe bet 75,000 and Hanna check raised to 200,000. Volpe called.

The {9-Diamonds} completed the board and Hanna announced all in, shoving for about 400,000. Volpe asked for confirmation that his opponent was indeed all in, and called upon getting confirmation. Since Volpe had 425,000 behind at that point, Hanna was the one all in.

Hanna hit the table with his fist, reason enough for Volpe to know for sure his {J-Clubs}{9-Clubs} was good. Hanna mucked, but the dealer revealed his hand to be {8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}.

Tuna's Sixes Claim a Massive Pot to Bust Bertani

Nível 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Rafael Bertani
Rafael Bertani

A massive pot was brewing and the river showed {7-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}. Rafael Bertani bet 85,000 out of the small blind with a total stack of 220,000 and Akin Tuna asked for his count before moving all in. Bertani called and Tuna immediately said "good call," before turning over {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} and assuming he had lost a big pot.

However, Bertani only turned over {4-Diamonds}{4-Spades} and headed to the rail. According to Tuna, Jaromir Hanel had raised and Tuna as well as Bertani called. On the flop, the action checked to Tuna and just Bertani called the bet of the German while Hanel said he folded ace-queen. The same action repeated on the turn for 32,000 before the clash ended with a bang.

Soon after, Tuna dragged in another decent pot when he bet the {A-Spades}{4-Clubs}{3-Spades}{2-Hearts}{6-Clubs} river for 50,000. Gabriel Subirana Lopez called and mucked when being shown {3-Clubs}{3-Hearts} for a set. "You can stay here," Tuna joked and his stack skyrocketed to 1.1 million.

Roi Pereira Conde Bubbles the 2017 PokerStars Championship Barcelona Main Event

Nível 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Roi Pereira Conde
Roi Pereira Conde

Alexandros Papadopoulos opened late position and big blind Roi Pereira Conde called.

The flop came {J-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{4-Spades} and Conde checked. Papadopoulos bet 13,000 and Conde check-raised to 80,000 with 23,500 behind. Papadopoulos tanked for a fair bit before moving in and Conde committed his last 5 big blinds as well.

Alexandros Papadopoulos: {A-Spades}{3-Spades}
Roi Pereira Conde: {10-Spades}{7-Spades}

The {3-Clubs} on the turn did nothing effectively and the {K-Spades} on the river made both players a flush and burst the bubble. Roi Pereira Conde, who was down to 4,000 in the previous level (a single big blind) worked his stack back up but eventually did bubble the Main Event. The remaining players are all in the money and guaranteed €8,740.
