Players on First Break of Day 2

Nível 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

The remaining players have gone on a 20-minute break, the first of two they'll take today, with six 75-minute levels scheduled for Day 2. There's no dinner break, either, so we are told that play will conclude around 8.15pm local time (2.15am CET).

We'll be back as soon as the players are back in their seats here in the Bahamas.

News in Brief

Nível 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

With just a few minutes until the first scheduled break here on Day 2 of the PokerStars Championship Bahamas, we took in a few hands that may have big implications later.

Lauren Monosson will take no further part in proceedings after her preflop move all-in with {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades} was called by Harry Ratchford pocket nines, which survived through a board showing {6-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{8-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{4-Clubs}. Ratford now has around 80,000 and looks keen to progress a lot further.

Gleb Tremzin is still involved, although the Russian was very short-stacked when he moved all-in. He had pocket aces, however, and through a board of {6-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}, they rivered a full house to double him up to 48,000.

Elsewhere, there have been good fortunes for two members of Team PokerStars Pro. Jason Mercier has 148,000 after a superb two levels, while Daniel Negreanu stacks up 83,000 himself, cruising above the average.

Jaime Staples Keeps Building

Nível 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Jaime Staples
Jaime Staples

Jaime Staples started the day with a little over a starting stack (30,900) and now sits on 145,000 heading into the first of two breaks today.

Staples called an all in with {6-Spades}{6-Clubs}, facing his opponent's {q-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}.

The flop came {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}, keeping Staples ahead with two pair, nines and sixes but giving his opponent a flush draw.

The turn was the {6-Hearts}, locking the hand up for Staples with a full house.

The river was the insignificant {4-Hearts}, sending the pot Staples' way.

Metaal Wins Some Back

Nível 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Govert Metaal was down a bit for the day but just won some back to get back to where he started the day. Action folded to Metaal in the small blind and he limped in. Big blind Justin Ouimette checked and the flop came {5-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{7-Spades}. Metaal check-called 1,200 before check-calling another 3,300 on the {10-Diamonds} turn. The {4-Hearts} on the river saw both players check and Metaal showed a winner with {9-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}.

Jason Koon Jams the Flop

Nível 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Jason Koon
Jason Koon

Jason Koon is fresh off his massive win in the PokerStars Championship Bahamas $100K Super High Roller and jumped into the Main Event action late on Day 1b yesterday.

He's back in the mix today, looking to scoop his second trophy of the series.

On a board reading {J-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, with about 20,000 in the pot, the small blind checked, as did Koon. Harry Ratchford, screenwriter for much of Kevin Hart's work, bet 4,500. The small blind called, and Koon check-raised all in for a total of 24,200. Ratchford went into the tank and agonized over his decision before opting to fold.

The player in the small blind claimed to have flopped a straight. He went into the tank, looking at Koon and then back at the board. While Koon was waiting to find out his fate, Ratchford got down and started doing push-ups. Koon didn't flinch as this was going on the background. The small blind folded and Koon said, "You must have had seven-eight of spades" as he raked in the pot.

Show Me Maimone!

Nível 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante

Nick Maimone could have been forgiven for being up and out of his seat. Down to less than 12,200 chips at this stage looked like a problem, but when he moved all-in over the top of a raise that had been called three times and got two calls, he thought he was in trouble.

Disaster was averted in the unlikeliest of circumstances, however. David Bokor still had to act, and seeing the 12,200 called twice gave him an idea that it was a perfect spot to squeeze. He moved all-in for well over 100,000 chips and that scared off the other two original callers.

Bokor: {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Maimone: {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}

Maimone suddenly took a big interest. "I could quadruple up," he said, and as he perched near his chair, the board played out {K-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{K-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} to give him exactly that - a way right back into the game.

"I love you," Maimone declared to his unwitting benefactor, Bokor. There was much good humor all round, and Maimone is right back in his seat, not intending to go anywhere very soon.

Todd Peterson and Bryn Kenney Eliminated in the Same Hand

Nível 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Bryn Kenney
Bryn Kenney

Bryn Kenney's Main Event lasted less than a level.

He moved all in for his last 6,500 from middle position and Diego Gomez called from the cutoff. Todd Peterson, one hand removed from doubling Taha Maruf, then three-bet to around 27,000 from the button. Both blinds folded and Gomez called to put both Kenney and Peterson at risk.

Peterson: {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}
Gomez: {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}
Kenney: {k-Diamonds}{6-Spades}

The {3-Spades}{k-Hearts}{10-Hearts} flop was gin for Gomez, and he scored the double elimination after the {4-Hearts} appeared on the turn followed by the {9-Hearts} on the river.
