Top 5 Poker Movies You Must Watch

Nível 3 : Blinds 100/300, 300 ante

Over the past century, poker has permeated pop culture, especially when it comes to motion pictures. Long before the “Poker Boom”, and even before the World Series of Poker (WSOP) was a thing, poker had already made its big screen debut.

Over the decades, poker fans have been treated to a plethora of poker movies, some good and others not so much. Some well-received poker films include the western comedy Maverick (1994), Survivor host Jeff Probst’s debut film Finder’s Fee (2001), the improv-inspired The Grand (2007), indie comedy darling Hitting the Nuts (2010), and the high-profile Hollywood flick Molly’s Game (2017).

All of those are among the best poker movies of all time, and if this article was “Top 10” instead of “Top 5 Poker Movies,” chances are they’d make the final list. However, the PokerNews crew got together, along with input from social media, to determine the top five must-watch poker movies of all time.

Jaka Picks Off Boivin's Bluff

Nível 2 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

A completed board of {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} was spread across the felt with three players still in the hand. Kimberly Caramele led out with a bet of 1,200 from the big blind and Thomas Boivin ripped all in for 19,000.

Faraz Jaka was on the button and gave it some thought before making the call. Caramele got out of the way and the two remaining hands were shown. Boivin showed {a-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} for just a pair of nines while Jaka turned over {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} for the nut straight.

Jaka Shoves Into the Nuts

Nível 2 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante

On a three-way turn board of {10-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{8-Spades}{10-Clubs}, Stephen Thirwell check-called a bet of 4,500 from Faraz Jaka as the other player got out of the way.

The two went heads-up to the river {10-Diamonds}, and Thirlwell checked once more. Jaka then went into the tank for a few moments before moving all in but was snap-called by Thirwell, putting himself at risk.

Jaka turned over {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts} for just ace-high and Thirlwell proudly flipped over {10-Spades}{6-Spades} for rivered quads.

Jaka's hand was mucked and Thirlwell was pushed the pot for a successful double-up.

The $50,000 PCA Single Day High Roller was won by New Zealand's David Yan earlier this week. This 6-Max tournament attracted a star-studded High Roller cast, with Yan agreeing a heads-up deal with Orpen Kisacikoglu.

Yan banked $485,690 for this victory, after 14 hours of play, and told PokerNews that his victory was down to running "insane"

“I’m pretty grateful for the experience" Yan told PokerNews after his victory. "When you play such a little amount, it’s just basically anything can happen. Today I just ran insane, the field was one of the tougher ones we’ve seen".
