Welcome to Day 2 of the $250,000 PSPC Super High Roller

Chris Brewer
Chris Brewer

After a brisk four levels of play on Day 1 of the $250,000 PokerStars Players Championship Super High Roller, it was Russia's Artur Martirosian who topped the star-studded field with a stack of 726,000. Next closest was Chris Brewer (547,500) and Henrik Hecklen (465,000) to round out the top three.

A total of 23 unique players joined the action on Day 1 with two needing rebuys to create a massive $6,088,500 prize pool. Late registration and rebuys are still open until the start of Level 9, so that number will be sure to grow.

Many of the best from around the globe took their seat in this prestigious high roller event and some who were fortunate to find a healthy stack include Orpen Kisacikoglu (444,500), Aleksejs Ponakovs (349,500) and recent PokerStars Caribbean Adventure High Roller Champion Isaac Haxton (349,000).

Day 1 Action

Day 1 started with fireworks in the first couple of hands between Martirosian who found a massive double up off of Andrew Lichtenberger, who held kings. Martirosian rivered the nut-flush with ace-king to leave Lichtenberger with a few big blinds and soon after would hit the exit as the first casualty.

Later in the day Seth Davies would be on the unfortunate end of a bad beat when he called the all in from Kathy Lehne who flopped trip fours holding king-four. Davies had ace-four for the better kicker, but when the river fell the king it was the rivered full house for Lehne that took half of Davies' stack.

Day 2 resumes at 2 p.m. EST with blinds at 1,000/2,500 and a 2,500 big blind ante. There will be ten more one-hour levels played until the remaining players will bag for Day 3 on Thursday, February 2nd at 12:30 p.m.

Be sure to stick with PokerNews to bring you all the up-to-date coverage as we come closer to crowning a new super high roller champion here in The Bahamas.

Hunichen First Casualty of the Day

Nível 5 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Chris Hunichen
Chris Hunichen

Chris Hunichen had started the day as the far shortest stack and got one open jam through. Artur Martirosian then opened to 5,500 and Orpen Kisacikoglu called in the small blind. Hunichen three-bet jammed for 42,500 in the big blind and Kisacikoglu was the only caller.

Chris Hunichen: {4-Hearts}{4-Spades}
Orpen Kisacikoglu: {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

On a board of {8-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{j-Hearts}, the overcards got there on the turn and that spelled the end for Hunichen on the first bullet.

Lehne Chipping Up

Nível 5 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Kathy Lehne
Kathy Lehne

Jean Thorel opened the action from under the gun to 6,000, and both Kathy Lehne in the small blind and Seth Davies in the big blind came along.

The flop fanned out {9-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} and both Lehne and Davies checked to Thorel who continued for 6,000. Lehne quickly called and Davies got out of the way.

On the {6-Spades} turn both players checked to the {2-Hearts} and after some thought, both checked to a showdown. Lehne rolled over {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} for ace-high and Thorel tossed his cards into the muck.

On the very next hand, Lehne opened to 10,000 on the button and both Davies and Thorel called from the blinds. The flop came {8-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{3-Spades} and play checked to Lehne who sized to 30,000, which only Thorel called.

On the {7-Spades} turn Thorel checked a second time and Lehne put the pressure on with a bet of 75,000. Thorel took a few seconds to weigh his options, but in the end made the fold and another pot was sent to Lehne.

Vogelsang Extracts Value From Pardo and Smith

Nível 5 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Christoph Vogelsang
Christoph Vogelsang

With 89,000 in the middle to the three-way turn of {9-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{4-Spades}, Christoph Vogelsang checked out of the small blind. Juan Pardo in the cutoff and Dan Smith on the button both checked as well to then see the {5-Clubs} river pair the board.

Vogelsang used almost his entire 30-second shot clock before betting 110,000, earning calls from both opponents. He turned over the {2-Spades}{2-Hearts} for deuces full of fives and that won the pot.

"Guess I should have folded," Smith sighed upon sending his cards into the muck without revealing them.

Ponakovs Jams Into Yan

Nível 6 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Aleksejs Ponakovs
Aleksejs Ponakovs

David Yan had been the initial preflop raiser in the cutoff and Aleksejs Ponakovs on the button as well as Mikita Badziakouski in the big blind stuck around. Three ways to the {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{6-Spades} flop, it checked to Ponakovs and he bet 19,000. Badziakouski opted to fold while Yan made the call.

Yan checked the {2-Hearts} turn before calling a bet of 47,000 by Ponakovs and checked the {k-Clubs} on the river, too. Ponakovs used one time bank and then moved all-in with the far biggest stack to win the pot.

Three Quick Hands Before the Break; Pardo on Fumes

Nível 6 : Blinds 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Dan Smith
Dan Smith

Juan Pardo raised to 7,000 on the button and instantly called the three-bet shove by Dan Smith in the small blind with a near identical shorter stack.

Dan Smith: {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}
Juan Pardo: {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}

The coin flip went to Smith, who made nines full of kings on the {k-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{k-Spades}{10-Diamonds} runout to double his 115,500.

Three ways to a {8-Hearts}{7-Spades}{4-Hearts} flop, Eric Worre checked and David Yan bet 8,000 and Mikita Badziakouski then raised to 20,000. Worre checked the shorter stacks of both opponents to then check-raise to 175,000 and earn two quick folds.

Last but not least, Artur Martirosian check-raised a {3-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop in a blind battle versus Justin Bonomo and received a call by Bonomo. The {4-Spades} turn brought a bet worth 23,000 by Martirosian and Bonomo called. Both checked the {6-Diamonds} river and Bonomo earned the pot with the {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}.

Nick Petrangelo
Nick Petrangelo

Aleksejs Ponakovs raised it up to 9,000 in the hijack and Mikita Badziakouski called on the button. Nick Petrangelo then three-bet to 40,000 in the small blind and Ponakovs invested yet another time bank before clicking it up to 80,000.

Badziakouski got out of the way and Petrangelo moved all-in. The instant call by Ponakovs followed.

Nick Petrangelo: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}
Aleksejs Ponakovs: {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

No ace or spades appeared on the {9-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{9-Hearts} runout and both stacks were counted. The 247,000 by Petrangelo were covered and he became the next casualty.

Yan Sends Greenwood To The Rail

Nível 8 : Blinds 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Sam Greenwood
Sam Greenwood

Eric Worre opened to 11,000 from the cutoff and both David Yan on the button and Sam Greenwood in the big blind made the call.

The flop came {q-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{6-Spades} and play checked around to the {j-Spades} turn. Action checked to Yan who sized to 20,000 and only Greenwood called.

The {4-Clubs} completed the board and Greenwood checked a third time. Yan quickly moved all in, covering the 132,000 remaining for Greenwood, who went deep in the tank.

After using several time bank cards, Greenwood tossed in a chip for the call and the hands were tabled. Yan rolled over {j-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for two pair and Greenwood revealed {q-Spades}{10-Hearts} as he made his way to the exit.

Mateos Eliminated by Kisacikoglu In Last Hand Before Dinner

Nível 8 : Blinds 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Adrian Mateos
Adrian Mateos

Orpen Kisacikoglu opened the action with a raise to 12,000 and he earned a call from Stephen Chidwick on the button. Adrian Mateos made it 55,000 to go in the big blind and Kisacikoglu called while Chidwick opted to get out of the way.

The {j-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} flop triggered a continuation bet of 65,000 by Mateos and that resulted in a call by Kisacikoglu. That led them to the {3-Clubs} turn on which Mateos moved all in for just shy of the pot. Kisacikoglu asked for a count but made the call before getting an exact amount.

Adrian Mateos: {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}
Orpen Kisacikoglu: {a-Spades}{j-Hearts}

Mateos had several outs at his disposal but the {10-Clubs} river was not among them to knock out the Spaniard in the last hand before the dinner break.

The End of the Worre's for Badziakouski

Mikita Badziakouski

With some 100,000 in the middle to the {a-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{4-Spades}{7-Hearts} turn, Eric Worre piled in several T-25,000 chips for more than 200,000 and that sent Mikita Badziakouski into a brief tank. A couple of seconds later, Badziakouski called it off and Worre announced ace-king.

Mikita Badziakouski: {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts}
Eric Worre: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

The {2-Clubs} on the river ensured that the kicker would play and Badziakouski was sent to the rail.
