The first flight of the Caribbean Poker Party Festival $1,100 buy-in MILLIONS Open played out over eight 60-minute levels at The Level at Melia Caribe Tropical in beautiful Punta Cana. All told, 133 entries tried their luck in flight 1a and 73 bagged chips with Barny Boatman (7,415,000) at the head of the pack. Oskar Prehm (5,771,000), Jan Erlei (4,147,000), Maria Ho (3,870,000), and Santiago Soriano Ramos (3,868,000) round out the top five stacks.

Alongside the current leaders, quite a few other well-known players advanced to Day 2, including partypoker ambassadors Roberto Romanello (2,900,000), Natalia Breviglieri (1,645,000), and Joao Simao (2,081,000). They are joined by the likes of Iaron Lightbourne (3,627,000), Antoine Saout (2,539,000), and Samantha Abernathy (2,244,000).

Unfortunately, not all the fan favorites survived to Day 2. Three-time WSOP bracelet winner Michael Gathy, partypoker ambassador Anatoly Filatov, and partypoker Chairman Mike Sexton were among the fallen.

Flight 1b was scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. local time but did not run. Players can still try their luck winning the $1,000,000 Guaranteed event in the two flights scheduled to start Saturday at noon and 7:00 p.m. Late registration and re-entry will be available until the conclusion of level 12 on Day 2, which will begin at noon on Sunday.

Breviglieri Doubles Up

With a substantial pot of about 650,000 already brewing and the completed board reading {7-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}, partypoker ambassador Natalia Breviglieri checked from big blind. Her lone opponent, Enrique Bergemann, shoved to put Brevilgieri to a decision for the remainder of her 504,000-chip stack. She called after a few moments of thought and showed {8-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} for a pair of eights which was good enough to win the pot, so she took the chips to double up.

With about 160,000 already in the pot on a completed board of {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{6-Spades}{A-Spades}, Antoine Saout checked from the small blind and his lone opponent, in the hijack, bet 70,000. Saout check-raised to 365,000, sending his opponent into the tank. He ultimately folded and Saout took the pot.

With a substantial pot of about 600,000 already brewing and the board reading {K-Spades}{J-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}, Barny Boatman bet 300,000 from the small blind and Andy Bacon called from middle position.

The {6-Clubs} fell on the river and Boatman tossed out 300,000 again. After some consideration, Bacon folded and Boatman took the pot, putting his stack over the 4,000,000-chip mark.

The next hand, Bacon opened to 25,000 from middle position and partypoker ambassador Anatoly Filatov three-bet to 65,000 from the cutoff. Boatman called from the button and Bacon called, as well.

The flop came {J-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{2-Hearts} and all three players checked.

The turn brought the {8-Spades} and Bacon checked. Filatov checked, Boatman bet 115,000, both of his opponents folded, and he took the pot.

With a substantial pot of about 400,000 already brewing on a flop of {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{2-Hearts}, Maria Ho checked from the cutoff to her lone opponent on the button who checked behind.

The turn brought the {6-Hearts} and Ho bet 130,000. Her opponent called.

The {4-Spades} fell on the river and Ho checked. The button bet 255,000 and after a few moments of thought, Ho called.

"You win," said Ho's opponent as he tossed his cards into the muck. Ho took the pot and slid her unshown cards into the middle.

Welcome to the Caribbean Poker Party MILLIONS Open

Troy Quenneville
Troy Quenneville

The 2017 Caribbean Poker Party Festival presented by partypoker LIVE kicks off Friday in the stunning seaside town of Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and the first item on the menu is the $1,100 buy-in MILLIONS Open. Players will begin with 1,000,000 starting chips and $1,000,000 is guaranteed.

There are four scheduled starting flights: one beginning at noon and another at 7:00 p.m. local time on Friday and Saturday. Play on Day 1 will consist of eight levels; the noon flights will have 60-minute levels and the evening flights will have 30-minute levels. Late entry and re-entry are available through the end of level 12. All surviving players will combine for Day 2 on Sunday and the eventual winner will be determined on Day 4.

It is noteworthy that the structure for each event in this tournament series utilizes button antes. Instead of each player at the table posting an ante every hand, the button posts the only ante at the table. From level 2 onward, the button ante is equal to the big blind. Blinds start at 2,500/5,000 with a 2,500-chip button ante.

Last year, just one partypoker LIVE event was held as part of the Caribbean Poker Party, and Canadian Troy Quenneville took it down for a $400,000 payday.
