Comisso Leads TV Final Table at Golden Nugget

Nível 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Mike Comisso
Mike Comisso

Mike Comisso began Day 2 as chip leader of the Poker Night in America $1,675 Main Event at Golden Nugget, and though he lost that distinction after a quiet early portion of the day, he regained the top spot when it was time to bag up for the televised final table.

Comisso put 1.263 million in the bag, and he'll be joined for the five-handed TV table by Vinicius Lima (1.198 million), Chan Pelton (1,050,000), David Morton (292,000), and Dimitry Agrachov (282,000). The players bagged just a bit after the beginning of Level 22 (8,000/16,000/2,000).

The day began with 25 runners who advanced out of three starting days. Fifteen were set to cash, but it ended up being 16 players in the money when voice actor Nika Futterman and Maxim Sorokin both busted on the bubble and chopped the 15th-place payout since they were at different tables.

Zo Karim, Brandon Cantu, and Kyle Frey were some of the notables who busted shy of the money.

Once the bubble burst, Matt Glantz and 2016 Million Dollar Heater winner Jake Daniels were two of the players making the money but falling short of the final table.

Once that final table started, it was Lima in command with 1.15 million while Comisso hadn't much headway from his start-of-day stack and had slipped to third. Lima continued to climb by sending Nacho Barbero out the door after his fellow European Poker Tour High Roller champ Sam Panzica.

Comisso won a race against Frank Bonacci with the {a-Spades}{k-Spades} against the {6-Diamonds}{6-Spades} to send him out eighth, and he continued to drag enough medium-sized pots to chip up. Chad Eveslage went out seventh to Pelton in the same flip, with Pelton's sixes prevailing.

Then, Pelton picked off a big two-barrel bluff from Lima with the {k-Spades}{4-Spades} on an {8-Spades}{4-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{6-Hearts} runout, with Lima giving up on the river and Pelton taking the pot to bring him back to the pack.

Six-handed play lasted awhile, but gold bracelet winner Joey Weissman was the one who finally fell on the final table bubble, though it took an unlucky beat to do so. Morton, who made his second PNIA final table after getting third at Choctaw in April for $131,590, crippled Weissman when he shoved in second to act for 143,000 during Level 22 (8,000/16,000/2,000) with {a-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} and Weissman woke up with the {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and reshoved from the button. After a {10-Spades}{q-Spades}{7-Hearts} flop, Morton ran a Broadway straight to leave Weissman with less than two big blinds, and he couldn't recover.

Players will arrive early on Tuesday for a short media session in preparation for the televised final table, and cards should be in the air between 12:45 p.m. and 1 p.m. local time.

Joey Weissman Eliminated in 6th Place ($10,500)

Nível 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Joey Weissman
Joey Weissman

David Morton moved all in for 143,000 second to act, and Joey Weissman got the count then shoved over from the button. Both blinds folded.

Morton: {a-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}
Weissman: {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}

Weissman was in a dominating position, and the {10-Spades}{q-Spades}{7-Hearts} flop kept it that way. A {k-Diamonds} hit the turn to give Morton a straight draw, thought. The river card that emerged was the {j-Diamonds}, causing a start from Morton and giving him a winning straight.

Left with just 30,000, Weissman was all in two hands later. Mike Comisso called on the button, as did both blinds. Vinicius Lima led out 30,000 on the {7-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop, and Comisso raised to 90,000. Lima folded a {7-Clubs} face-up.

Comisso: {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}
Weissman: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

The tournament was over for Weissman unless he picked up help on the turn, which he did with the {q-Diamonds}. A {q-Clubs} river didn't do it for him, though, and he wished everyone good luck.

Futterman, Sorokin Chop Bubble

Nível 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Brandon Cantu
Brandon Cantu

After Brandon Cantu went bust, the tournament was on the bubble. At Cantu's old table, Nika Futterman jammed 65,000 in the cutoff and Matt Glantz shoved over in the small blind to chase away the big. Glantz's {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} crushed Futterman's {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}, especially after he flopped a set and turned quads.

Meanwhile, there was an all-in pot at the other table. Vinicius Lima looked like he had three-bet a Maxim Sorokin open to 44,000, and he tank-called a four-bet ship for 177,000.

Lima: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}
Sorokin: {5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}

The board ran out {2-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{7-Hearts}{a-Hearts}, giving Lima aces for the win on the river.

As both players were eliminated the same hand at different tables, they chopped 15th-place money.

"I'm Declaring War on You, Buddy"

Nível 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Zo Karim
Zo Karim

Brandon Cantu raised to 9,000 under the gun, and Zo Karim gave him action on the button. Karim called 9,500 on the {q-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} flop. Both players checked the {j-Clubs} and {k-Hearts}, and Cantu moved to muck his hand, holding his cards over the felt. Karim asked him if he was going to show, but Cantu just indicated he couldn't win. Karim still waited, asking Cantu to show.

"I don't want to," Cantu said. "I can't win."

Finally, Karim turned over {3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} and Cantu dropped his cards. Karim asked for clarification of the rules and was told he had to show his hand regardless to win the pot.

"I want him to show first next time," Karim said.

"I'm declaring war on you, buddy," Cantu said. "Just so you know."

Welcome to Day 2 of Poker Night in America at Golden Nugget (Completo)

Mike Comisso
Mike Comisso

Three starting flights are in the books, and it's time for Day 2 of Poker Night in America $1,675 Main Event at Golden Nugget.

Just 25 players have qualified today, as the tournament drew a total of 136 runners, and there are plenty of recognizable names among them. Zo Karim (344,500), Chad Eveslage (296,000), Sam Panzica (199,500), Matt Glantz (183,000), Brandon Cantu (179,500), and Nacho Barbero will all be sitting in when play begins at noon.

They'll all be looking up in the counts at Mike Comisso though, as he bagged a monstrous 575,000 on Day 1b and comes in as the leader.

Things begin with blinds of 1,500/3,000/500, as that's where Day 1a bagged, so the other starting flights followed suit. It's about midway through Level 15, with 24:40 remaining in the level. Levels through 17 will be 40 minutes, and levels thereafter will last one hour. According to the structure sheet, the day is scheduled to last until a televised final table of five remains.

Stay tuned to PokerNews to see who will get TV time and who will be going home empty-handed.
