A total of 179 entries, which included 26 reentries, were tallied in the first starting flight of the 2016 Winamax SISMIX Main Event, a 6,000 MAD (€550) buy-in. Just 38 players, or less than one-quarter of the starting field, advanced to Day 2 and they will join the other survivors from the other two opening days to play on May 28 when the combined field gets ready for two more days of action.

At the end of Day 1a, the Belgium's Cheng-Wei Yin had the lead on the French-dominated field, ending the day with 307,500. Yin was easily ahead of the field since the dinner break and never let up with his stack bouncing between 260,000 and 370,000 chips most of the time.

Also ending the day on a good note were two French players, Salem Sahed in second place with 272,900 and Sofiene Belaid with 215,900.

The day started off slowly with no players busting in the opening level. However, this did not dictate the action for the rest of the day. After Hugues Mazouaud became the first casualty in the tournament, eliminations seemingly were occurring at a fast and furious rate due to the aggressive nature of six-max play.

Team Winamax pro Davidi Kitai was eliminated twice today and plans to rejoin the field on Thursday for Day 1b. His first foray into the Main Event lasted just three hands, with the second hand doing the most damage after his {Q-}{Q-} was unable to improve against an opponent's {A-}{A-}.

Another Winamax pro who did better than Kitai was Florian Decamps. He seemed pleased to be right near the Day 1a average of 94,210 chips, finishing with 93,500.

Play will resume on Thursday, May 26 at 12 p.m. local time. The field is expected to be bigger and include many of the players that were unable to survive today's action, and you can find all of the coverage right here on PokerNews.com.

It seems like every time we saw Team Winamax member Davidi Kitai's table he was involved in a pot. Some say any two cards are good for Kitai. Unfortunately for him, his aggression didn't pay off today, although he will have plenty of more chances to build a stack tomorrow and Friday.

In his second bustout hand with blind, Kitai raised in late-position with {9-Clubs}{2-Clubs} against an early position limper to 2,400. His opponent called leading to a {q-}{7-Clubs}{8-Clubs} flop. The action was checked to Kitai who bet 2,400. His opponent check-raised to 6,500 which Kitai called.

The {6-} didn't complete Kitai's flush, but that didn't stop his aggression. His opponent led out with a bet of 8,000. Kitai shoved all in for about 40,000 which is opponent called and turned over {7-}{7-} for a set. Kitai was unable to improve when the {6-} hit the river sending him to the rail for the evening.

Welcome to the 2016 Winamax SISMIX Main Event

Casino de Marrakech

Welcome to PokerNews' live coverage of the third-edition of the Winamax SISMIX Main Event at the Casino de Marrakech in sunny Morocco.

In about 30 minutes, the first of three opening days is set to begin, with the next two opening days taking place tomorrow and Friday at 12:00 GMT. Surviving players from both opening flights will combine and compete for two more action-packed days before a winner is declared on May 29. The 6,000 MAD (€550) Winamax SISMIX Main Event offers a deep structure with players kicking off the action with 20,000 starting chips and blind levels increasing every 45 minutes on each of the three opening days with more time allowed on subsequent days with 50 and 60 minute blind levels.

As the name of the tournament festival suggests, the tournament is a six-max affair with even the tables specially designed to comfortable allow for this amount of players.

During last year's Winamax SISMIX Main Event, Belgium's Jerome Sgorrano outgunned a final table of entirely French players to win the top prize of 700,000 MAD ($71,241).

Later in the day there will be Day 2 of the 15,000 MAD (€1,375) SISMIX High Roller at 2:00 p.m., the 1,500 MAD (€138) Bounty Kill Them All at 5:00 p.m., and the 2,000 MAD (€185) Pot Limit Omaha tournament at 9:00 p.m. Also, for players looking to get into the main event for a fraction of the cost, tonight's schedule also features a 500 MAD (€45) satellite at 8:00 p.m.

Stay tuned for coverage coming you way shortly.
