Stevens Cracks Aces

Nível 2 : 300/600, 75 ante
A set for Stevens
A set for Stevens

Bert Stevens, who gained notoriety under his alias "girafganger7" before switching to his real name on GGPoker, made it 1,500 to go first to act. From the cutoff, Aleks Ponakovs three-bet to 4,800 and Stevens called.

Stevens check-called 7,015 on the {2-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{4-Spades} flop and 15,492 on the {7-Clubs} turn. The river was the {5-Hearts} and Stevens checked a third time. Ponakovs moved all in for 70,411 and Stevens, covering the Latvian by a hair, called with {2-Spades}{2-Diamonds} for a set.

Ponakovs' {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs} was second best and, like Reeves before, he opted for a reentry right away.

First Reentry is for Reeves

Luke Reeves
Luke Reeves

Bert Stevens opened to 1,500 in middle position and received calls from Luke Reeves and Ole Schemion. The flop came down {7-Clubs}{3-Spades}{q-Spades} and Schemion checked. Stevens bet 2,700, Reeves raised to 8,208, Schemion reraised to 16,716, Stevens folded, and Reeves called after some thought.

On the {10-Diamonds} turn, Schemion bet enough to put Reeves to the test for his remaining stack and the Brit called for 44,305 total.

Luke Reeves: {k-Spades}{j-Spades}
Ole Schemion: {k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

Reeves had straight- and flush draws but bricked both on the {j-Hearts} river to become the first player to run out of chips. He quickly jumped back in.

De Souza Rises Early

Nível 1 : 250/500, 60 ante
De Souza with the better kicker
De Souza with the better kicker

Brazil's Belarmino de Souza was one of the breakout players of the GGPoker 2020 World Series of Poker online bracelet events. With second and third places among other accolades, De Souza cemented his status as one of the rising stars from what's arguably one of the best poker countries in the world right now.

In the Main Event, De Souza found himself clashing with the ever-entertaining Jean-Pierre "Kunkuwap" Van Der Spuy. It was Van Der Spuy coming in with a raise to 1,500 and De Souza three-betting to 5,000 in the small blind. Van Der Spuy called in position.

The flop was {a-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} and De Souza continued for 3,624. Van Der Spuy raised to 12,738 and De Souza called. The {2-Hearts} on the turn prompted checks from both sides, bringing action to De Souza again on the {6-Clubs} river. The Brazilian fired 27,342 and Van Der Spuy called it off.

De Souza showed {a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} for aces with a ten kicker and outkicked Van Der Spuy's {a-Clubs}{7-Hearts} for a pot of nearly 100k.

Solid Start for Barer

Ami Barer
Ami Barer

In the second hand of the day, Ami Barer raised to 1,500 and "meow41" three-bet to 6,000 in the big blind. Barer called.

The flop brought {5-Spades}{10-Spades}{2-Hearts} and "meow41" continued for 9,548 which Barer called. Both players virtually tapped the board on the {3-Diamonds} turn. The river was the {j-Spades} and "meow41" bet 10,503. Barer raised to 36,869 and "meow41" called after some thought.

Barer showed {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} for a set of tens and "meow41" folded {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}.
