Ilija Savevski Bags Massive Lead at End of Day 2

Nível 26 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Ilija Savevski

The second of four days in the €1,100 France Poker Series (FPS) Paris Main Event has wrapped up with just 55 remaining after the day began with 619 players. Leading the way is Ilija Savevski with a stack of 10,010,000 after winning a massive pot and eliminating Samuel Fournier with a full house nearing the end of the night.

Following Savevski are fellow big stacks Blaz Zerjav (6,645,000), Jonathan Swerdlow (5,045,000), and Enis Rouissi (5,005,000).

The tournament has already been one to remember as it drew a record-breaking 4,149 entrants, besting the previous FPS Main Event record of 2,138 runners set at 2023 EPT Monte Carlo, and more than doubling last years FPS Main here in Paris, which had 2,071 entries. The eventual champion will take home the trophy and top prize of €470,830, while each returning player is guaranteed a payday of at least €8,710.

Some notables who survived to see Day 3 include Cecile Ticherfatine, Scott Margereson, Pierre Merlin, Daniel Smiljkovic, and Day 1 chip leaders Alexandre Correia and Matei Lupascu.

Day 2 Action

As the surviving players from the six starting flights combined on Day 2, it didn't take long for hundreds of players to bust to bring the field down to a few dozen tables with just 322 remaining at the first break. Some of those who made early exits include Alexandre Vuilleumier, two-time FPS champion Anthony Apicella, Julien Sitbon, Daniel Rezaei, Jason Wheeler, and 2023 EPT Paris runner-up Peter Jorgne.

Kenny Hallaert began to pick up some steam in Level 20 when his pocket tens eliminated Benjamin Duval for a pot worth more than 80 big blinds but couldn’t quite make it to Day 3 as he was knocked out late in the day.

Marle Spragg, who was repping a PokerStars patch, began the day with 180,000 and had built it up to a little over 400,000 when she ran into the ultimate preflop cooler as her pocket kings couldn’t defeat the pocket aces of Gilles Sebbane.

Savevski Scoops Massive Pot to Eliminate Fournier; Wins Another Right After

Nível 26 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Ilija Savevski
Ilija Savevski

Samuel Fournier opened 100,000 in the cutoff, and Ilija Savevski called on the button before Alin Grasu defended the big blind.

The dealer fanned a flop of 763, and once checked to Fournier continued for 115,000. Savevski raised to 375,000 and only Fournier made the call.

The 5 hit the turn, and Fournier check-called a bet of 675,000.

When the 3 completed the board, Fournier checked to Savevski who pushed a bet of 2,000,000 across the line. Fournier tanked before deciding to rip his entire stack of 3,175,000 into the middle, and Savevski called.

Fournier turned over 75 for two pair, but was shown the bad news as Savevski tabled 66 for a full house.

Almost immediately after, Savevski won another pot of about 1,300,000 with pocket kings against David Kaufmann on a 95675 board.

Last Three Hands

The tournament floor has elected to stop play at the conclusion of Level 26 and just announced three more hands will be played.

Rouissi Scoops Chips in Messy Pot

Nível 26 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante

Action was on the turn on a board of 10JQ6. Aristide Cochin bet 375,000 and Enis Rouissi raised to 775,000. Cochin started to think and after a minute a player called time. Cochin was not happy.

"I have a decision to make," he said, scratching his head as the floor counted down 30-seconds. In the last second, Cochin threw in a chip to signify the call.

The river came the 4. Rouissi then threw in 500,000, putting Cochin all in, but he did so out of turn. Floor personnel were called again and it was ruled that if Cochin checked the 500,000 bet would stand and if he took any other action then it would be back on Rouissa to do as he chooses.

Eventually, Cochin opted to fold. It was about as messy as a pot can get, but in the end it was Rouissi who scooped the chips.

Barriocanal Scoops a Big One

Nível 26 : Blinds 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante

Giovani Torre raised to 100,000 from the hijack and Daniel Barriocanal defended in the big blind.

The K36 flop saw Barriocanal check-raise a bet of 65,000 from Torre to 210,000. Torre called.

The turn fell the A and Barriocanal slowed down. Torre retook the lead with a bet of 500,000 and Barriocanal called.

The 6 river checked to a showdown. Barriocanal tabled K8 for second pair, winning him this pot.
