Kuznetsov Leads the Way After Day 1 in €10,200 Mystery Bounty Event; Football Star Neymar Advances

Nikita Kuznetsov

The 2023 PokerStars European Poker Tour Paris festival has officially commenced at the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile and High Roller regulars from all over the world took to the tables for Day 1 of Event #3 $10,200 Mystery Bounty.

A total of 71 entries were recorded to generate a cash prize pool of €326,600 but both figures are subject to change. The late registration for the first high-stakes contest of the series, which is operated by Club Barriere Paris in the heart of the French capital, is still open for another two levels on Day 2.

Upon completion of eight 30-minute levels, only 45 players advanced with chips to their name. Nikita Kuznetsov leaped into the top spot with a stack of 376,500, followed by Kayhan Mokri (346,500) and fellow countryman Viktor Ustimov (334,000).

Mokri in particular has enjoyed a very successful start into the current year after he cashed during three tournaments of the 2023 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure on The Bahamas. This included a deep run in the $25,000 PCA High Roller and a runner-up finish to Andrew Chen in a $10,200 Mystery Bounty Event. Besides his cash prize of $90,400 in the latter tournament, Mokri also pulled two $100,000 bounty envelopes as well and will certainly hope to repeat that feat here in Paris.

The overnight top ten also features well-known poker pros such as Julien Sitbon, Alexandros Theologis, Stefan Schillhabel, and Casimir Seire. Brazil's Felipe Ketzer was the chip leader for a large portion of the day before he doubled Theologis in the final hands of the night to fall from grace.

Football Star Neymar Reaches Day 2

While many of the biggest names in the world of poker reeled in a small rail during the high-stakes contest, nobody gathered more attention than football star Neymar Jr. The Cultural Ambassador for PokerStars joined in the first half followed by his entourage and numerous other poker players from his home country of Brazil.

One day after the Champions League match of Paris Saint Germain against Bayern Munich, the charismatic striker took to a different pitch and showcased his talents with the cards. A topsy-turvy day up and down the flanks of the leaderboard ended with a small profit as Neymar claimed a stack of 103,500 for his Day 2 berth. In the second half of the contest, he doubled in a flip against Theologis before also notching up the elimination of Jakov Nesterov.

The only other PokerStars ambassador to enter the fray on Day 1 was fellow Brazilian Andre Akkari. Unlike Neymar, he was not able to advance but can still take advantage of the single re-entry option until the start of level 11. The very same opportunity also arises for all the Day 1 players who lost their entire stack just once.

Steve O'Dwyer and Orpen Kisacikoglu won't be back in the mix, however, as both exhausted two entries without success. Other High Roller regulars such as Tom Vogelsang, Pedro Garagnani, Chris Brewer, Stephen Chidwick, Conor Beresford, Rui Neves Ferreira, and Timothy Adams are set to return with stacks near the average.

All those wishing to join the action can do so until approximately 1:30 p.m. local time on Thursday, February 16. The tournament recommences one hour prior to that at 12:30 p.m. local time with level nine and returning blinds of 1,500-3,000 and a big blind ante of 3,000.

Stay tuned for the high-stakes poker action from Paris, as the tournament will play down to a winner and the PokerNews live reporting team will be on the floor to provide as many key hands as possible.

Big Double for Theologis Against Ketzer

Nível 8 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Alexandros Theologis
Alexandros Theologis

In a battle of the blinds, it all escalated as Felipe Ketzer took on Alexandros Theologis. The latter was the effective stack for what appeared to be 60 big blinds during the final hands of the night.

Alexandros Theologis: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}
Felipe Ketzer: {a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}

The {q-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop kept Theologis firmly ahead and he soared to an even bigger lead with the {k-Spades} turn, leaving Ketzer with just four outs to avoid a major setback. No ten appeared thereafter as the {7-Hearts} river locked up a big double for Theologis worth 150,500.

Seidel Eliminated by Vogelsang

Nível 7 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Erik Seidel
Erik Seidel

Erik Seidel nursed a short stack of 27,000 for the last level and ultimately got them in only to find himself heavily dominated by Tom Vogelsang in the following showdown.

Erik Seidel: {a-Spades}{2-Spades}
Tom Vogelsang: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}

The {6-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} board brought no miracle escape and Seidel was knocked out on the first entry. "Where is my bounty?" Vogelsang grinned. However, he only receives the chips for the time being as bounties come into play at the start of level 13 on Day 2.

Neymar Scores a Double Through Theologis

Nível 6 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Neymar Jr
Neymar Jr

Ren Lin opened the action with a raise to 4,500 and received two callers including Neymar Jr. Alexandros Theologis in the small blind then pushed all-in with the largest stack of all players involved, which forced out Lin and the first cold-caller.

Neymar Jr. called all-in for 43,000 and the cards were flipped over.

Neymar Jr.: {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}
Alexandros Theologis: {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

The {j-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{6-Spades} flop gave the football star to a set of nines while Theologis had a gutshot at his disposal, with Lin filming the showdown on his phone. Nothing changed with the {4-Diamonds} turn and the {j-Clubs} river only improved Neymar Jr. to a full house for the double.

"King queen? My man," Lin joked to Theologis, who replied "it's a good hand ... fifty, fifty."

Kisacikoglu Out and Back In

Nível 5 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Orpen Kisacikoglu
Orpen Kisacikoglu

Fahredin Mustafov checked a heads-up river of {9-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} after which Orpen Kisacikoglu bet 22,000 with one single T-500 chip behind. The call by Mustafov followed and Kisacikoglu tabled the {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for a bluff, which Mustafov had beat holding {j-Spades}{9-Spades}.

One hand thereafter, Kisacikoglu was all-in from under the gun and Mustafov raised big from the small blind to isolate.

Orpen Kisacikoglu: {j-Hearts}{8-Spades}
Fahredin Mustafov: {a-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}

Neither player connected with the {10-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{7-Spades} board and Kisacikoglu was eliminated to re-enter almost immediately.

Sitbon Chips Up At Expense of Orpaz

Nível 4 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Julien Sitbon
Julien Sitbon

Within rather quick succession, Tom Orpaz and Julien Sitbon tangled in two bigger pots. In the first one, the completed board showed {9-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{9-Spades}{4-Diamonds} and Orpaz folded when facing a bet of 46,000.

The Israeli didn't fold the second time, however, and check-called for 61,000 on the {9-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{4-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} river. Sitbon tabled the {6-Clubs}{6-Spades} for a set of sixes and Orpaz tapped the table in defeat.

"Nice hand," he added to be left with some 20 blinds. However, only a short while later the dealer announced a seat open on table one and Orpaz was eliminated.

Chidwick Knocked Out by Theologis

Nível 1 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Stephen Chidwick
Stephen Chidwick

The action kicked off with a raise to 3,000 by Jorryt van Hoof from under the gun and he picked up calls by Alexandros Theologis and Stephen Chidwick out of the blinds.

No betting action took place on the {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}{4-Spades} flop, which led to the {10-Diamonds} turn. It checked to Chidwick who bet 3,000 and van Hoof called. Theologis check-raised to 14,000 and Chidwick then used one time bank extension before re-raising to 33,000. Van Hoof quickly folded and Chidwick moved all-in for what appeared to be 91,500 with Theologis snap-calling.

Stephen Chidwick: {a-Spades}{5-Spades}
Alexandros Theologis: {a-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}

No spade followed as the {3-Hearts} river sent Chidwick to the rail in the first level.

Welcome to the 2023 PokerStars EPT Paris €10,200 Mystery Bounty Event

100K Mystery Bounty
100K Mystery Bounty

After a very successful return to The Bahamas for the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure and second edition of the PokerStars Players NL Hold'em Championship (PSPC), the operator returns to Europe. While the European Poker Tour has already been taking place on French soil in previous years, the location was switched from Deauville to the capital of the country.

The 2023 PokerStars EPT Paris festival takes place from February 15 to 26, 2023 is situated right in the centre of the metropole. Operated by the nearby Club Barriere Paris, the venue of the poker festivities is the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile, which can be found only a short walk from the iconic Arc de Triomphe. On the opening day of the series, the first High Roller contest in the French capital is slated to kick off at approximately 7pm local time.

Event #3 Mystery Bounty €10,200 High Roller features one of the most popular formats on the live and online poker circuit, which has taken the industry by storm throughout the last few years. The single re-entry tournament allocates €5,000 of the buy-in to the bounty prize pool while €4,600 of each entry are distributed via cash prizes with approximately 15% of the field ending up in the money.

Throughout the entire tournament, a level duration of 30 minutes is scheduled and that will only be halved once a deal has been made or the final three players have been reached. Day 1 will feature eight levels with four sets of duplicate blind levels. However, the late registration and re-entry period remains open for another two levels and following break at the start of Day 2.

All players start with 100,000 in chips, which is good enough for 100 big blinds in the first two levels of the tournament. A shot clock is implemented from the start of play and each participant receives four time bank extensions regardless of when they enter. At the start of each even numbered level, each seated player will receive one additional time bank card.

Throughout the entire stop in Paris, the PokerNews live reporting team will be on the floor to provide exclusive updates from several marquee events including the Mystery Bounty €10,200 High Roller.
