Tetart Leads Final 53 of EPT Cyprus Main Event

Nível 20 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Nathan Tetart

Day 3 of the inaugural PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) Cyprus Main Event has reached a conclusion, with 53 players having advanced from the 155 that started the day. After five more 90-minute levels, Nathan Tetart has emerged as the chip leader and is the only player to have bagged more than three million, finishing the night at 3,465,000.

Tetart was under the radar early in the day but went on a tear in the last two levels, at one point knocking out Ege Guven with pocket-aces in a colossal pot that saw him surpass Jose Gonzalez Sanchez, who bagged the second-largest stack of the night (2,665,000) after enjoying the chip lead for most of the day.

Sanchez started the day with an above-average stack but quickly skyrocketed up the counts after eliminating Benjamin Tessier, who had rivered a straight only to run into the nut-flush from Sanchez. From there Sanchez never looked back, eliminating at least five different players over the course of the day including PokerStars team Pro Parker Talbot. Sanchez has a previous career-best score of $19,689, coming 23rd in the €2,200 high roller at the 2023 EPT Barcelona. With all remaining players being guaranteed at least $18,700, Sanchez will simply have to make one pay jump during tomorrow’s Day 4 to surpass that record.

Bart Lybaert
Bart Lybaert

Bart Lybaert rounds out the top three, bagging exactly 2,000,000 to end the night. Lybaert began the day with an above-average stack and was on the right side of a brutal cooler later in the evening where Andrei Vavilonskii ran his pocket-kings into Lybaert's pocket-aces in a pot worth over one million chips. Lybaert is no stranger to success in EPT events, having recently made the final table of the €2,200 at the 2023 EPT Barcelona, ultimately bowing out in eight place in that event for just over $80,000. Lybaert has a career-best score of $432,856 and will require a top three finish or better to surpass that in this event.

Dario Sammartino

Other notable players to find a bag for Day 4 include Kenny Hallaert (1,330,000), Carl Shaw (895,000), Dario Sammartino (855,000), Nicolas Chouity (745,000), Day 2 chip leader Gary Miller (640,000), Anton Wigg (300,000) and Day 1a chip leader Milos Skrbic (175,000).

Day 3 Action

EPT Barcelona champion Simon Wiciak was one of the early casualties of the day after running his flush draw into Kubanychbek Abakirov, who had flopped a set of kings, and failing to improve. Carl Shaw, who is coming off of a recent third place finish at the 2023 EPT Barcelona main event, also got off to a hot start today, at one point taking down a four-bet pot by overbetting the river in another early highlight. Shaw would later score a knockout on previous EPT Champion Steve O'Dwyer after the latter had become short-stacked.

Francisco Benitez hit the rail not long after O'Dwyer, getting the last of his chips in with an overpair only to run into Marc Foggin's flopped set of sixes. Not long after, Alex Kulev would hit the rail after moving in with a small pair and straight draw only to be snap-called by Gerard Carbo, who had flopped top pair and held to score the knockout.

Sammartino maintained an above-average stack for nearly the entire day, but in the last hand of the night ran into an unfortunate situation where he had turned a full house only for Bjorn Kozenkai to river quads. Sammartino correctly assessed the situation and managed to find a fold, with both players showing what they had after the hand, confirming Sammartino's fold had been correct and he had effectively lost the minimum.

The remaining 53 players are guaranteed $18,700 out of the $6,402,000 prize pool, with the eventual champion taking away $1,042,000, the gold-plated trophy, and the title of EPT champion.

The action on Day 4 kicks off at noon local time on Level 21 with blinds of 10,000/15,000 and a 15,000 big blind ante. The plan is to play an additional five levels as the field continues to whittle down towards the final table here at the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel and Spa.

PokerNews will be back tomorrow providing live updates from what has already been an historic event here in Cyprus.

Dario Sammartino
Dario Sammartino

Dario Sammartino opened to 25,000 from under the gun and Bjorn Kozenkai defended from the big blind.

Both players checked the flop and turn leading to a final board of A72AA. Kozenkai checked, Sammartino bet 25,000 and Kozenkai raised to 105,000.

Sammartino looked disgusted but after about 25 seconds of thought decided to fold. Kozenkai allowed Sammartino to pick of his cards to be revealed, which ended up being the A for quad aces. Sammartino showed he had folded 77 for aces full of sevens as Kozenkai took the pot.

Yugay Puts in Turn Check-Raise

Victor Yugay
Victor Yugay

Dario Sammartino opened in early position to 25,000 and was met with a call on the button from Yassin Mahmoud and in the big blind by Victor Yugay.

The A43 flop landed and action checked through to a 4 turn. Yugay checked again and Sammartino put in a delayed continuation bet of 22,000. It was then on Mahmoud on the button who put in a raise to 75,000. Yugay didn't fold, or call, instead he counted out his chips and then put in a turn check-raise into two people.

Sammartino quickly got out of the way and Mahmoud went over his options but eventually thought better of it and folded.

Yugay scooped a solid pot after some well-timed aggression.

Ege Guven found himself all in and at risk for roughly 400,000 against Nathan Tetart who held a covering stack in a preflop confrontation.

Guven was in bad shape with a lower pocket pair and failed to improve on the Q52KK runout resulting in his elimination while Tetart continued to rise up the chip counts.

Lybaert Coolers Vavilonskii

Bart Lybaert

In a four-bet pot with over 400,000 already in the middle, Bart Lybaert continued for 240,000 in early position on the flop of 833 and Andrei Vavilonskii called in the cutoff.

Lybaert then moved all in for over 500,000 on the 2 turn and Vavilonskii burned through his three time banks as he thought through a decision.

"I don't think I'm folding this hand. You're capable [of bluffing], right?" asked Vavilonskii as Lybaert shrugged.

Vavilonskii eventually called with a bigger stack.

Bart Lybaert: AA
Andrei Vavilonskii: KK

It was a cooler Vavilonskii couldn't get away from and the 6 river confirmed a big double for Lybaert.

Kuznetsov Puts a Massive Cooler on Pak

Nível 20 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Nikita Kuznetsov
Nikita Kuznetsov

A massive pot of around 400,000 had already been built by Nikita Kuznetsov and Aleksandr Pak as they went heads-up to the river on a completed board of A59A6.

Kuznetsov was on the button and moved all in, putting Pak to a decision for his last 300,000 in the small blind. Pak slid forward his stack and Kuznetsov turned over 99 for a full house.

Pak angrily tossed AJ into the muck and was sent to the rail while Kuznetsov raked in the enormous pile of chips.

"Nice hand, sir," tablemate Gilles Simon told him.

Tetart Bombs the River

Nathan Tetart
Nathan Tetart

Fabrice Bigot opened in early position to 25,000 before action was on Nathan Tetart in late position, who flat-called, and the remaining players folded.

The 2710 flop quickly checked through to a Q turn. Bigot checked again and Tetart went into the tank for about 30 seconds before putting out a bet of 32,000. Bigot stuck around and the 5 rolled off on the river.

Bigot checked for the last time and Tetart didn't wait long before putting in almost a pot-sized bet of 125,000. Bigot thought it over but folded before burning a time bank.

Tetart dragged the pot and is currently sitting second in chips.

Refos Exposes His Kings, Santerne Still Calls

Nível 20 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Thomas Santerne
Thomas Santerne

Thomas Santerne raised to 25,000 in the cutoff and Raoul Refos called from the small blind. David Kaufmann then shoved all in from the big blind for 210,000 and Santerne called.

Refos then reshoved for 317,000 and turned over KK without realizing Santerne hadn't called yet. The floor was called over and Santerne was given the decision whether to commit the chips, and he called to put both opponents at risk.

David Kaufmann: QJ
Raoul Refos: KK
Thomas Santerne: 88

"You called even when you know he has kings? I'm confused by that call. Unless he knows something," tablemate Mario Trattou said as they saw the board fall J23107. Refos' kings stayed in front and Kaufmann busted, while Santerne handed over a double up.

"Unlucky bro," Trattou told Santerne after the hand.

"It's the game," Santerne replied, taking the beat in stride.

"Are you going to start doing cartwheels now? You were so excited to show those kings. That shit might work at Dusk Till Dawn, but not here in Cyprus. Don't go raising every hand now that you have chips," Trattou joked with Refos as the two players shared a laugh.

Seyedali Hosseinirami opened to 24,000 in early position and Jose Gonzalez Sanchez three-bet to 70,000 on the button. Giovani Torre then three-bet jammed a stack of around 500,000 from the small blind and Hosseinirami folded before Sanchez called.
