Grecu and Pinter Bubble Day 1a

Nível 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Virgil Grecu
Virgil Grecu

There were two all in and call at the same time when the dealers were instructed to halt the action. The hand-for-hand on the money bubble didn't kick off though, as two players were all in.

First up it was Virgil Grecu in a battle of the blinds for 51,000 and he faced Adrian Echave Samu.

Virgil Grecu: {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}
Adrian Echave Samu: {a-Spades}{6-Diamonds}

The {7-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop changed nothing as Pinter had the diamonds covered. The {2-Clubs} turn brought some chop outs but the {6-Spades} river improved Echave Samu.

Gergo Pinter ended up all in for 129,000 as he called the push of Joao Lopes De Oliveira and had the best of it heading into the showdown.

Gergo Pinter: {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}
Joao Lopes De Oliveira: {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

The {j-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{2-Spades} flop spelled trouble for Pinter and he suddenly needed a deuce or king as soon as the {8-Clubs} turn improved Lopes De Oliveira to a flush. A blank {7-Diamonds} came on the river and Pinter also missed out on the money. Since the players have to make Day 2 to receive a portion of the prize pool, both Grecu and Pinter came up short and will have to try again.

Nível 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Remi Castaignon
Remi Castaignon

Remi Castaignon three-bet to 18,000 on the button and initial raiser Marc Poustis called to see a {q-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{2-Clubs} flop. Poustis ended up all in with the {j-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and Castaignon looked him up with {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}.

While Poustis still had some live cards, his run on Day 1a came to an end as the {4-Clubs} appeared on the turn. The river was the meaningless {a-Spades} and the Frenchman headed to the rail.

Maria Konnikova: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}

The runout was {7-Clubs}{7-Spades}{3-Spades}{k-Clubs}{6-Spades} and Konnikova turned a pair of kings to win the pot and eliminate Axinte.

Martini Busts Patacconi; Doubles Toma and Camelo Da Silva

Nível 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Julien Martini
Julien Martini

Julien Martini turned trips fives with {5-Clubs}{4-Clubs} to best the {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs} for queens and fives of Leonardo Patacconi and send the Italian to the rail.

One hand later, just before the blinds went up, Tsugunari Toma raised to 7,000 from under the gun and Daniel Camelo Da Silva pushed for 34,000 on the button. Martini in the big blind called the 7,000 and was given the option to fold or call the additional chips.

Martini opted for the reshove and Toma called to create a three-way all in.

Daniel Camelo Da Silva: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}
Tsugunari Toma: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}
Julien Martini: {k-Clubs}{10-Spades}

The board came {j-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{10-Clubs}{k-Spades} and the king on the river gave Camelo Da Silva and Toma the nut straight. After he paid off the 34,000 for the side pot, Martini also had to forfeit another 51,500 to Toma.

Lopes De Oliveira Rising

Nível 11 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Joao Lopes De Oliveira
Joao Lopes De Oliveira

In three-way action to the {k-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{7-Spades} flop, Joao Lopes De Oliveira made it 15,000 to go from early position and was called by William Blais and Visa Kiviharju in the small blind. The {j-Hearts} turn was checked by Kiviharju, Lopes De Oliveira bet 20,000 and Blais pushed for what appeared to be 50,000. Kiviharju folded and Lopes De Oliveira called.

William Blais: {k-Hearts}{q-Spades}
Joao Lopes De Oliveira: {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}

The {7-Diamonds} river was a blank and that was it for Blais.

Lopes De Oliveira scooped another pot off Kiviharju soon after when he check-called two barrels on the {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} board and his {7-Hearts}{6-Hearts} ended up as the winner.

On the {k-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{4-Clubs} flop, Lauri Saaskilahti got his stack of 14,600 in with {j-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and Jullian Feriolo quickly made the call with the {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds} for middle set. The {4-Diamonds} turn instantly locked up the hand for the Frenchman, which made the {a-Hearts} river a formality.

Freddy Deeb
Freddy Deeb

On a four-way flop of {6-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{2-Clubs}, the action checked to Freddy Deeb and he made it 1,500 to go from early position. The button and David Jakobson in the small blind called, Leonardo Patacconi in the big blind folded. After the {j-Diamonds} turn, only Jakobson check-called another bet of 3,500 before the {9-Clubs} river was checked through.

Jakobson announced and jack and tabled {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}, Deeb mucked. He jokingly asked in table chat after "a jack is better than eights in Barcelona?" and remains just below the starting stack.

Walter Treccarichi
Walter Treccarichi

Pedro Cairat has won this very event two years ago for €432,178 after he came out on top of a field of 4,557 entries and he is aiming for a repeat victory. The start into day was not as pleasant for the Argentinian as he lost a bigger pot to Walter Treccarichi. More than 14,000 were in the middle and both ended up checking down the {j-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{a-Clubs} turn and the {3-Clubs} river.

Treccarichi tabled the {q-Spades}{q-Clubs} and won the pot.

Welcome to the 2019 PokerStars EPT Barcelona €1,100 EPT National

2018 EPT National Barcelona winner Jean-René Fontaine
2018 EPT National Barcelona winner Jean-René Fontaine

One of the biggest and most-prestigious poker festivals of the year is taking place at Casino Barcelona, as the cornerstone of the PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) has been a returning stop in all previous 14 years since it's inaugural edition back in 2004. The attendance numbers for the PokerStars EPT Barcelona have been growing year-after-year and new records were set not only in the €5,300 Main Event but also in the €1,100 National.

One year ago, Jean-René Fontaine defeated Julien Martini in heads-up to come out on top of a field of 4,348 runners and claim the top prize of €547,000. Fontaine, who hails from the French overseas territory of Réunion, also made headlines at the 2019 World Series of Poker when he came second in the $1,000 Seniors Event for a payday of $409,249.

For Martini, it was one of several outstanding results in 12 months of poker that has seen his rise into the top ten of the French all-time money list. Martini won his first bracelet at the 2018 WSOP, racked up another WSOP final table appearance in Las Vegas before his trip to Catalunya was crowned with a payday of €323,000. And in January 2019, Martini then finished runner-up to Ramon Colillas in the $25,000 No-Limit Hold'em PokerStars Players Championship on the Bahamas for a life-changing $2,974,000.

The action at one of Europe's hotbeds of poker has already kicked off a few days ago. For the first time ever, the Campeonato España de Poker was held right before the EPT and has seen record numbers for the €500 Main Event and the €1,100 High Roller. The former tournament has already played down to a winner two days ago while the High Roller determined a champion in the previous night with the full results to follow.

Out of 1,733 entries in the €500 CEP Main Event, two Frenchman and a Lithuanian claimed the podium spots as Fabien Lecardonnel took home €110,000 for his victory, fellow countryman David Dubuisson earned a payday of €85,000 and Liutauras Armanavicius received €50,000 for his third place.

Casino Barcelona staff expects another record-breaking field in the €1,100 EPT National, which features a total of four starting days on August 21st and 22nd. Day 1a will commence at noon local time and Day 1b follows the same day at 7 p.m. local time. Players can re-enter into the following flight should they run out of chips. As such, a maximum of four entries are allowed and the registration for each Day 1 closes after level eight.

Each participant receives 30,000 in chips and the levels on Day 1a and Day 1c last 40 minutes each, for Day 1b the level duration is 30 minutes and the final flight includes levels of 20 minutes. Each of the four flights plays down to 15% of the field and the poker enthusiasts from near and far have to bag and tag for Day 2 in order to be in the money.

Once all survivors combine to a single field for the first time, the level duration on Day 2 and for the remainder of the event increases to 60 minutes each. The event is scheduled to play down to a champion on Sunday, August 25th, 2019.

Who will follow into the footsteps of Fontaine and Martini in one of Europe's biggest mid-stakes tournaments of the year? Stay tuned for all the action from Barcelona, as the PokerNews live reporting team will be on the floor from start-to-finish to provide all the action.
