Marcin Chmielewski Leads EPT Grand Final Main Event After Day 3

Nível 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Marcin Chmielewski
Marcin Chmielewski

When play resumed for Day 2 of the 2016 PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino EPT Grand Final €5,300 Main Event, 196 players from a field of 1,098 entries returned to the tables at the Monte-Carlo Bay Resort and Pierre Calamusa was leading the survivors. Only the top 159 spots were guaranteed a payday of at least €8,890 and the bubble burst at the very end of the second level of play.

Aaron Gustavson raised on the button and Jinfeng Huo defended from the big blind. Huo open jammed 100,000 on the {K-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop, and Gustavson called with the {6-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for a baby flush. Huo's {K-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} for two pair had outs, but both {7-Spades} turn and {10-Hearts} river blanked.

Just prior to Huo's bubble-bursting exit, John Juanda soft-bubbled after running ace-king into the pocket aces of Juan Etcheverry. Other big names to bust before the money included David Peters, Salvatore Bonavena, Mike Watson, Ilan Boujenah, and Javier Zarco.

Once the money was reached, the seats began to empty, as one by one players hit the rail and headed to the payout window. Jake Cody and Max Silver had to settle for a min-cash, Dominykas Karmazinas joined them, and Dimitar Danchev also busted.

Erik Seidel lost a flip with king-queen against the deuces of Vanessa Selbst, and then Davidi Kitai also went out. Other notables to exit before the end of the day included Paul Hoefer, Dermot Blain, Steven van Zadelhoff, Sam Chartier, John Gale, and Yucel "Mad Turk" Eminoglu.

After five levels of 90 minutes each, the field was reduced to just 74 players, and leading the pack was Marcin Chmielewski. The Pole, who finished 21st in the France Poker Series High Roller a few days prior, bagged up 1.314 million to claim the overnight lead.

Natan Chauskin with 1.107 million and Roman Korenev with 1.091 million were the only other players to bag seven-figure stacks.

Despite not hitting seven figures, there were plenty of big stacks still left, including Dario Sammartino (902,000), Thiago Nishijima (848,000), Erwann Pecheux (818,000), Adrien Allain (810,000), Fatima Moreira de Melo (807,000), Govert Metaal (704,000), Antoine Saout (626,000), Vanessa Selbst (616,000), and Randy Lew (455,000).

Day 4 will commence Wednesday at 12 p.m. local time with another five 90-minute levels scheduled. The PokerNews Live Reporting team will be there to cover all the crucial action, so make sure to tune back in when history is being written on the French Riviera.

Korenev Busts Romanello in Huge Pot

Roman Korenev
Roman Korenev

In a four-bet pot to 85,000 chips, Frank Romanello and Roman Korenev headed to the flop {J-Spades}{8-Clubs}{4-Hearts} and Romanello bet 90,000. Korenev called before both checked the {A-Hearts} turn and the dealer burned and turned the {3-Hearts} river.

Romanello checked, Korenev jammed for more than 300,000 and Romanello eventually hero-called.

Romanello: {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}
Korenev: {8-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

The back door flush ensured that a pot of one million chips was shipped to Korenev and the Russian skyrocketed into the top spot.

Selbst Busts Seidel

Nível 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Erik Seidel
Erik Seidel

A 13,000 late position raise prompted Erik Seidel to push his last 54,000 in. Small blind Vanessa Selbst cold four bet to 105,000 which made the big blind and initial raiser both fold.

Vanessa Selbst: {K-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}
Erik Seidel: {2-Clubs}{2-Spades}

The {6-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{6-Spades} flop was already bringing some heat on Seidel's pair of deuces, and the {9-Diamonds} on the turn brought Selbst even more outs. The {10-Diamonds} on the river was one of the cards she needed to hit to bust him, and Seidel got up from the table and made his way to the exit.

Pollak: {A-Clubs}{3-Clubs}
Abdellatif: {K-}{9-}

The turn brought the {3-Spades} and the river the {7-Clubs} to give Pollak a flush. Abdellatif shook his head as he waited to get paid out, and Pollak now sits on 230,000.

Dimitar Danchev
Dimitar Danchev

Dimitar Danchev, Yucel Eminoglu and Kristen Bicknell checked a flop of {A-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{5-Hearts}, and the {9-Hearts} came on the turn. Eminoglu bet, Bicknell called, and Danchev raised, forcing Eminoglu to fold. Bicknell then jammed more than 120,000, and Danchev snap-called.

Bicknell: {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}
Danchev: {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}

It was set over set, but the {9-Clubs} river was the one outer for Bicknell, giving him quads and the double up in spectacular fashion. Danchev was crippled to 11,000 and busted straight after.

Evangelos Terzoudis

After a limp and a raise to 14,000 by Dominykas Karmazinas, Evangelos Terzoudis three-bet to 45,000. The Lithuanian called and they headed to the flop of {Q-Spades}{10-Hearts}{5-Spades} and Terzoudis continued for 60,000. Karmazinas shoved for 186,000 and was called to find himself in bad shape.

Karmazinas: {K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}
Terzoudis: {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}

Neither the {3-Spades} turn nor the {4-Clubs} river changed anything and the Lithuanian was gone while Terzoudis is now just below 1 million in chips.
