Tremzin Bags Day 2 Lead; Farrell & Chartier Bag Big While Footballer [Removed:30] Falls

Nível 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Gleb Tremzin
Gleb Tremzin

The start of Day 2 at the European Poker Tour Season 12 Prague Main Event brought about the close of registration, and with nine players taking advantage of late registration, the total field was driven up to 1,044 players — down just a tad from last year's 1,107, but still the second-largest EPT Prague Main Event ever!

That created a prize pool of €5,063,400 that'll be distributed to the top 151 finishers with a min-cash being worth €8,910. Meanwhile, a hefty €921,540 is reserved for the winner. After six 75-minute levels of play on Day 2, the field was whittled down to 250 with Gleb Tremzin and his stack of 610,500 leading the way.

Others to bag big were EPT12 Malta champ Niall Farrell (547,000), Simon Persson (468,300), Colin Lovelock (458,200), and start-of-the-day chip leader Sam Chartier (444,000).

Of course not everyone was so fortunate. Among the hundreds to hit the rail on Day 2 were Faraz Jaka, Stephen Chidwick, Ivan Luca, Steve O'Dwyer, and Ole Schemion.

Likewise, Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Eugene Katchalov, Martin Hruby, Vanessa Selbst, Natalie Hof, Theo Jorgensen, George Danzer, Andre Akkari, and Jamie Staples all hit the rail, as did frequent PokerNews reporter Marc Convey.

Convey was taking a shot in his first-ever EPT Main Event, but unfortunately for the reigning European Poker Media Person of the Year, his time ran out in Level 10 (500/1,000/100) by Sebastian Pauli.

It happened when Convey, a former EPTLive commentator, opened for 2,200 from middle position and Pauli three-bet to 5,400 from the button. The blinds both folded, and Convey thought for a few moments before four-betting all in for what looked to be 21,000. Pauli snap-called and Convey seemed to know he was in trouble.

Convey: {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}
Pauli: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}

Indeed, Convey was dominated, and he began to get up put of his chair. The {6-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{8-Hearts} flop didn't do him any favors, and while the {5-Hearts} turn delivered him a flush draw, the {7-Clubs} river failed to complete it.

Another player to fall was [Removed:30], a French-born Malian footballer who is currently a free agent (he most recently spent time playing for Crystal Palace). On a {8-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} flop, Chartier bet and Kebe raised to 22,000. Chartier responded by moving all in. Kebe called off for what looked to be 60,000 and the cards were turned up.

Kebe: {9-Hearts}{7-Hearts}
Chartier: {k-Spades}{j-Hearts}

Chartier held top pair, but Kebe was drawing to hearts. The {6-Spades} turn have Kebe an added gutshot, but the {6-Clubs} river proved useless. With that, the winger was sent to the rail while Chartier chipped up to just over 500K.

While hundreds fell, plenty of notables made it through to Day 3 including Sam Greenwood (365,500), Adrian Mateos (346,000), Juha Helppi (199,800), Kitty Kou (180,000), Day 1a chip leader Anton Astapau (147,700), Fabrice Soulier (57,600), and Mike "Timex" McDonald (37,400). They will be joined by several members of Team PokerStars including Matthias De Meulder (185,000), Ivan Demidov (151,800), Johnny Lodden (148,500), Chris Moneymaker (93,700), and Mickey Petersen (76,700).

Moneymaker was primed to finished the night as one of the big stacks, but two huge hands back-to-back saw him chopped down. You can read about those by clicking here.

Day 3 will kick off at Noon local time on Sunday with the plan of playing five levels, which will be upped from 75 minute to 90. The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be there every step of the way. Until then, here's some info on the nationality breakdown of the Main Event…

Amongst the 1,044 participants in the EPT12 Prague Main Event, Germany had the strongest representation with 82 players, nearly eight percent of the field. France and the UK were tied in second, both having 75 players (7%) and Russia ranked fourth with 74. The EPT12 Main Event attracted players from 75 different countries.

Moneymaker Loses Two Huge Pots in a Row

Nível 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Chris Moneymaker
Chris Moneymaker

Action folded to Chris Moneymaker on the button and he opened for 5,000. Simon Persson in the small blind three bet to 13,000 and the big blind immediately folded. Moneymaker wasn't willing to do the same and four bet to 25,000. Persson five bet to 50,000 and Moneymaker called.

The flop came {J-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{3-Hearts} and Persson bet 36,500. Moneymaker raised to 75,000 and Persson moved all in for 106,200 more.

"I got myself in a pickle here" Moneymaker exclaimed. "I was gonna go all in pre, now I maybe have to call"

Persson wasn't saying anything and just sat there silently. Moneymaker eventually called. "I have a five" Persson said with an almost embarrassed voice. It was good...

Chris Moneymaker: {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}
Simon Persson: {A-Spades}{5-Spades}

The {A-Diamonds} on the turn paired both and Moneymaker gained some outs, but the {2-Diamonds} on the river wasn't one of them.

The next hand there was a raise from early position and a call from Nicolas Chouity. Moneymaker was right back at it and flatted in position. The flop came {Q-Hearts}{9-Spades}{Q-Spades} and the initial raiser checked. Chouity made a bet, Moneymaker called, the initial raiser shoved all in, Chouity called all in for 50,000, and Moneymaker called as well.

Initial raiser: {7-Spades}{8-Spades}
Chris Moneymaker: {K-Spades}{10-Spades}
Nicolas Chouity: {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}

The {9-Clubs} on the turn and {Q-Clubs} on the river were both blanks and Chouity tripled while Moneymaker and the initial raiser chopped the small side pot.

"Nice table change" Moneymaker said with a sarcastic voice, "Nice two hands!" he followed up that statement.

Charlie Carrel Sent Home

Nível 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Charlie Carrel
Charlie Carrel

Charlie Carrel opened the action with a raise and Mikolaj Zawadzki made the call from the button. Samuel Vousden came along from the big blind and the flop came {J-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{9-Clubs}. The big blind checked and Carrel bet one-third of the pot. Both Zawadzki and Vousden called.

The {J-Spades} fell on the turn and now Vousden lead out for one-third of the pot. Carrel and Zawadzki called.

The river came the {3-Hearts} and Vousden bet 58,000, more than Carrel had. He tanked for quite some time, and at one point a player at the table asked if Zawadzi was thinking at the same time because he didn't want to do this waiting thing twice. Another player called the clock on Carrel and the Brit called with about 40 seconds left. Zawadzi instantly called as well.

Charlie Carrel: {J-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Mikolaj Zawadzki: {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}
Samuel Vousden: {10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

The trips of Carrel were beaten by the straight from Vousden and full house from Zawadzki.

"I Really Don't Believe You Have the Flush!"

Nível 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
David Boyaciyan
David Boyaciyan

As we arrived at table 24 we witnessed two Dutch players battling it out. The board was {2-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} and David Boyaciyan in the big blind had bet out 12,000. Abdelhakim Zoufri on the button raised it up to 27,600 and Boyaciyan went into the tank.

Boyaciyan, who finished 2nd in this event to Martin Finger back in 2011 for €535,000 and 3rd to Sotirios Koutoupas (2nd) and Ramzi Jelassi (1st) in 2012 for €310,00, said "I really don't believe you have the flush!"

"Pay and you'll see!" Zoufri replied with a tiny smile.

Boyaciyan wasn't so sure yet and continued to tank. "We never played before huh?" Boyaciyan asked his country man. "We did, but I never made an impression apparently" Zoufri said.

After a little while longer, Boyaciyan made the call and Zoufri took one last look at his cards before tossing them into the muck. A player at the table tried to convince Boyaciyan to show his cards, but the rounded Boyaciyan slid them face down into the muck. Boyaciyan up to well over the 200,000 mark, Zoufri down to just over 100,000.

Staples Races for His Tournament Life

Nível 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Jaime Staples
Jaime Staples

Bjorn Wiesler put out a big stack of chips from early position. He still kept a few thousand back, but the 30,000 or so he set out essentially declared that he was going to be all in. Action then folded to Jaime Staples in the cutoff and he opted to call off for his last 21,000. The rest of the players folded and it was off to the races.

Staples: {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}
Wiesler: {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}

Staples got it in good, and he held on the {9-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{j-Hearts} flop, though Wiesler picked up a gutshot to go with his overs.

The {A-Clubs} turn was a dagger through Staples' heart as Wiesler took a commanding lead with a pair of aces.

Staples needed a six on the river to survive, but it was not meant to be as the {4-Clubs} bricked. Ever the ambassador, Staples made sure to shake hands with everyone at the table before departing.

Selbst Can't Get Past Andler

Nível 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Vanessa Selbst
Vanessa Selbst

We just caught Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst all in for 100 chips, and we stuck around to find out the whole story of her demise in this year's EPT Prague Main Event. After the dust settled we caught up with Swede Christopher Andler, who recapped all the action for us.

"She raised to 3,300 and I three-bet to 8,100 from the button," Andler started, as he managed to win all of her chips in the end.

"She called the three-bet, and the flop came down {K-}{7-}{5-}," Andler continued.

Selbst checked to Andler who bet 6,600 and the three-time WSOP bracelet winner check-raised to 14,000, according to Andler. The Swede made the call, and on the turn another {K-} hit.

"She bet 25,000 with just 100 chips behind and I went all in," Andler said, "And she folded right away."

Andler, with a smile, repeated himself to emphasize that she folded with just 100 chips behind, and on the very next hand she was all in automatically

The action folded to Andler while Selbst was all in for less than an ante, and he raised to 3,500, getting the other players to fold.

Selbst: {J-Hearts}{J-Spades}
Andler: {A-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}

The board ran out {10-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{4-Spades}{K-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} and Selbst nonupled up to 900 chips. After posting the ante of 200, Selbst was all in for 700 on the next hand, and once again she was up against Andler. Andler raised to 3,500 from the hijack and the player on the small blind three-bet to 9,000.

Andler called the three-bet in position, and the flop brought out {K-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{7-Clubs} on which the small blind bet 11,000. Andler called the bet and the turn was the {3-Spades}. The small blind fired out another 24,800 and Andler proceeded to move all in for 89,500.

After a while Andler's opponent folded, and he was once again heads up with Selbst.

Andler: {A-Hearts}{K-Spades}
Selbst: {A-Spades}{3-Diamonds}

The river brought the {7-Diamonds} and Selbst wished the players at her table good luck before leaving the tournament area.

Birnbaum's First-Ever EPT Main Event Comes to an End

Nível 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Nancy Birnbaum
Nancy Birnbaum

Yesterday we told you the story of American poker pro Nancy Birnbaum, who was playing in her first-ever EPT Main Event.

Birnbaum did well on Day 1b, but her journey took a turn for the worst on Day 2 as she only seemed to dwindle over the course of the last three levels.

We missed her elimination, but she was kind enough to fill us in on the details. According to her, she was down to just six big blinds when she got it in holding {3-}{3-} against the {k-Spades}{q-Spades} of an opponent. It was a flip, but the coin did not come down in Birnbaum's favor as the flop contained a king.

No three would appear, and Birnbaum was left no recourse but to go enjoy the city.

George Danzer Eliminated In Interesting Hand

Nível 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
George Danzer
George Danzer

George Danzer opened for 3,400 from under the gun plus one and Boghean Andrei Lucian on the button made the call. The big blind came along for the ride and the three of them took a flop of {7-Clubs}{6-Spades}{5-Hearts}. The big blind checked and Danzer checked as well. Lucian made a bet of 6,100 which made the big blind fold almost instantly. Danzer wasn't so willing to let go of his hand and even raised, making it 14,000. Lucian called in position.

The {K-Hearts} fell on the turn and Danzer shoved all in for 26,100. The camera's, who seconds ago were trying to catch Vanessa Selbst's bust out (post to follow), swooped one table over and closed in on the action. Focus on Danzer moving in, switch to Lucian who now had the decision. The camera's were buzzing, all attention was on Lucian.

The man from Romania eventually tossed in a chip to call. Danzer showed top set with {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}. Lucian tabled {Q-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for a turned flush draw on top of his flopped gutshot.

The dealer didn't waste any time burning a card and placing the {8-Spades} on the river. With hanging shoulders Danzer made his exit. Boghean Andrei Lucian started stacking, he's up to almost 120,000 now.

There's No Stopping Chartier

Nível 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Sam Chartier
Sam Chartier

Sam Chartier began the day as the chip leader, and he's done nothing but build since then.

In a recent hand, Chartier opened for 2,700 under the gun and action folded all the way around to Gerald Karlic, who defended from the big blind. The {9-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} flop saw Karlic check-call a bet of 3,400, and the dealer burned and turned the {A-Diamonds}.

Karlic check-called another bet, this time 5,100, and then both players checked the {9-Hearts} river. Karlic rolled over the {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}, but it was no good as Chartier held the {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} in the hole.

Grieco Check Raises Moneymaker Twice in One Hand

Nível 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Chris Moneymaker
Chris Moneymaker

Nicola Grieco in the cutoff opened with a raise to 3,000 before the flop and Chris Moneymaker on the button made the call. The flop came {10-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} and Grieco checked. Moneymaker made a bet of 3,500 and soon got check raised to 10,000. Moneymaker called in position.

Grieco checked again on the {8-Diamonds} turn and again Moneymaker bet, this time 7,500. Grieco check raised for the second time, now for 25,000. Moneymaker wasn't scared that easily and called.

The river came the {7-Spades} and Grieco checked. Was he going for the holy grail of poker? Would he try the triple check raise? Would he go for the trifecta of bluffs? He certainly got the opportunity as Moneymaker bet 29,000. Grieco had 52,000 behind at this point but after just a couple of seconds he gave up and the pot went to Moneymaker.
