Frank Takes from Helppi; Liberto Ousted

Nível 8 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

With around 35,000 in the pot and a flop of {k-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{2-Spades}, Christopher Frank checked from the small blind and Juha Helppi bet 15,000 from the under-the-gun position. David Peters called from the button, Frank check-raised to 46,000, and Helppi called. Peters got out of the way and it was heads-up action to the {a-Clubs} turn.

Frank checked, Helppi bet 35,000, and the young German called before both players checked the {7-Diamonds} river.

"Ace," Frank said excitedly before rolling over the {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts}. It was good as Helppi sent his cards to the muck unseen.

Meanwhile, Justin Liberto has been eliminated from the tournament.

Charania the Last Level 7 Elimination

Nível 8 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Scott Seiver & Mohsin Charania
Scott Seiver & Mohsin Charania

Just before the level went up, Mohsin Charania got his last 52,000 all in preflop holding the {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} and found himself in a race situation with Byron Kaverman, who held the {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}.

The {j-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} flop didn't help Kaverman much, but the {10-Clubs} turn did as he picked up an open-ended straight draw. The dealer burned one last time and put out the {4-Diamonds}, which put a nail in Charania's coffin.

Meanwhile, Jeff Rossiter has jumped back into action.

"You Probably Win All My Chips"

Nível 7 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

In a blind-versus-blind hand, Mike "Timex" McDonald and Quan Zhou each invested 26,000 from the small and big blind respectively. The {3-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} flop saw McDonald check-call a bet of 32,000, and then he check-called one of 46,000 on the {6-Diamonds} turn.

When the {Q-Spades} completed the board on the river, both players checked and McDonald tabled the {k-Spades}{9-Spades}. It was no good though as Zhou had him out kicked with the {a-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}.

"River nine," Zhou joked.

"You probably win all my chips," McDonald said with a laugh.

Seiver's Day is Done

Nível 7 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Scott Seiver
Scott Seiver

Scott Seiver opened for 9,500 and received a call from Team PokerStars Pro Andre Akkari. Poland's Jose Carlos Garcia then three-bet to 26,500, Seiver four-bet all in for roughly 80,000, and Akkari got out of the way. Garcia snap-called and Seiver discovered the bad news.

Seiver: {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}
Garcia: {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}

Seiver was in desperate need of a jack, but it wasn't in the cards as the board ran out a dry {7-Spades}{2-Clubs}{6-Spades}{3-Clubs}{3-Hearts}. Seiver has already exercised his single reentry option, which means he's out €50,000 and his EPT12 Malta €25,000 High Roller is officially over.

Meanwhile, Jeff Rossiter was eliminated from the tournament.

Badziakouski Calls With Ace High

Nível 7 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

On a board of {6-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{9-Spades}{10-Spades} Scott Seiver had bet 56,000 from the cutoff. Mikita Badziakouski on the button tanked for a long time and the clock was called. The tournament director came over and informed Badziakouski he had one minute to act on his hand.

Seiver, in the meantime, was holding his hand in front of his face so Badziakouski couldn't see his eyes. The man from Belarus laughed at the sight of Seiver covering his face, but the clock was still ticking. With about 5 seconds left, Badziakouski eventually called somewhat reluctant.

Seiver's face said it all and he flashed {K-}{J-} before tossing his cards into the muck. He was caught red handed as Badziakouski took it down with just the {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}. Seiver now short, Badziakouski around average.

More Chip Counts

Nível 7 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Gu Freerolling Thorel

Nível 7 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

With 81,000 in the pot and a flop of {9-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{j-Spades}, two checks saw Huidong Gu bet 52,000. Jean-Noel Thorel then woke up with a check-raise to 130,500, David Peters folded, and Gu made the call to see the {2-Clubs} turn. Thorel opted to check, but called when Gu moved all in for 128,500.

Gu: {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}
Thorel: {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}

Both players held the same hand, but Gu was freerolling to a flush. Fortunately for Thorel, a club failed to materialize as the {7-Spades} blanked on the river. Chop it up!

McDonald Doubles in Big Hand

Nível 7 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

We caught the action on the flop, but Mike McDonald was kind enough to fill us in on the pre flop details after the hand was finished.

McDonald opened the button to 9,000 and big blind Liberto three bet to 32,000. McDonald thought the bracelet winner had made it it 27,000, and clicked it back to 55,000. Liberto called.

The flop came {10-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{2-Clubs} and Liberto fired 39,000. McDonald slid 80,000 forward and the action was back on Liberto. Liberto tanked for a bit and announced all in. McDonald snap called and Liberto shook his head as he knew he was in trouble.

Mike McDonald: {A-Spades}{K-Spades}
Justin Liberto: {K-Hearts}{4-Spades}

The {6-Diamonds} on the turn and {6-Spades} on the river didn't help Liberto, and he had to forfeit 183,000 of his stack.

Carrel, De Meulder & Chattha Among Early EPT12 Malta Side Event Winners

Nível 7 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Charlie Carrel

The European Poker Tour Malta is comprised of 76 events, and already some notables have been winning "Spadies."

For instance, the first event, a €5,000 Win the Button tournament, attracted just five players, though all of them — Ben Heath, Martin Finger, Patrick Leonard, Charlie Carrel and IPT7 Malta champion Georgios Zisimopoulos – were accomplished.

In the end, the 22-year-old Carrel defeated his best friend, Ben Heath, in heads-up play to walk away with the €15,760 top prize and the first trophy of the festival. Meanwhile, the 23-year-old Heath earned €8,490 for his efforts.

According to PokerStars, Carrel, known as "Epiphany77" online, started his poker career online with a deposit of just $15 and now has online earnings of nearly $900k including chopping the Sunday Million last year.

His first big score on the EPT came here in Malta in March when he made the final of the €10k High Roller, finishing fifth for €183,800; and then just two months later he won the PokerStars and Monte-Carlo Casino EPT Grand Final Grand Final High Roller for €1,114,000.

In other news, Team PokerStars Pro Matthias De Meulder took down the €500 NL Deepstack Turbo event on Thursday night for €9,842., which came after cutting a three-way deal with runner-up Georgios Zisimopoulos, the reigning IPT Malta champ, and British player Patrick Leonard. There were 82 entries in total, creating a €39,770 prize pool with 11 players making the money.

Meanwhile, Eric Lescot took down the €500 PLO Turbo – a tournament that attracted 56 entries and created a prize pool of €27,160 — for €7,315 after cutting a heads-up deal with Finland’s Olli Kokko.

Finally, Britain’s Chaz Chattha won the €200 NL Hyper Turbo – a tournament that attracted 108 players with 15 being paid — for €4,540 after a three-way deal that saw runner-up Istvan Magyar and third-place finisher Giorgio Bellanca both take home €3,500 each.
