Hand Analysis and More at Learn.PokerNews

Nível 21 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

Paul Newey's elimination from the $25,000 High Roller in 11th place reminds us of his near-miss in the $100,000 Super High Roller a few days ago. There Newey's tourney run ended one spot shy of the cash in an intriguing three-way all-in hand involving himself, eventual winner Fabian Quoss, and Mike McDonald (who happens to be second in chips to start today's final table in the PCA Main Event).

That was one of the more interesting hands from this year's PCA thus far, one of a few that have been discussed over on Learn.PokerNews this week. Read about it in a post titled "Lessons from the 2014 PCA: Poker's Endless Surprises," then click around to read discussions of other PCA hands plus other strategy advice and features for beginning players as well as those with more experience.

Merson Wants To See

Nível 21 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

Action folded to Greg Merson in the small blind, and he made the call. Joao Vieira checked his option in the big blind, and the flop fell {10-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{6-Diamonds}. Merson led with a bet of 30,000, and Vieira raised to 93,000. Merson called.

The turn paired the board with the {10-Clubs}. Merson checked, and Vieira fired 152,000. Merson called.

On the river, the {K-Clubs} completed the board. Merson checked, and Vieira checked behind.

Merson turned over the {J-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}, and Vieira went to muck his hand. Merson requested that he see Vieira's hand, and the floor was called over for a ruling. It was ruled that Merson had the right to see Vieira's hand, which turned out to be the {8-Diamonds}{4-Spades}.

Merson won the pot and moved to nearly 1.8 million in chips. Vieira dropped back under 1.6 million.

European Poker Tour to Host Europe's Largest-Ever Poker Festival to Celebrate 100th Event

Nível 21 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

This August, the European Poker Tour (EPT) will celebrate it’s 100th event by throwing Europe’s largest-ever poker festival in Barcelona. From August 16 – 27, 2014, the Casino Barcelona will kick off Season 11 of the EPT, once again partnering up with the successful Spanish regional Estrellas Poker Tour from August 16 - 21 to create a spectacular 12-day Barcelona poker extravaganza.

“The EPT was born in Barcelona so it’s very fitting to celebrate EPT’s 100th event in true style and with unforgettable poker,” said EPT President Edgar Stuchly. “EPT Barcelona is one of the most popular tour stops and attracts players from all over the world for the fantastic mix of beaches, iconic architecture, party atmosphere and world class poker,” he continued.

Last year’s EPT Barcelona event broke all previous records when the Estrellas and EPT Main Events clocked 1,798 and 1,234 entries, sending Soenke Jahn and Tom “hitthehole” Middleton back home with career-besting prizes of €169,136 and €942,000 respectively. This year, the EPT is adding 20 extra tables to accommodate player fields that are likely to beat last year’s records.

On one of the first hands of the day Greg Merson raised to 50,000 and Dani Stern called from the button. Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negrenau was seated in the big blind and he three-bet to 145,000.

Merson did not take long before moving all in and Stern folded immediately. Negreanu snap-called and a huge cooler was upon us.

"I don't think I could've played that any differently," Negreanu said with a smile as he found out in how much trouble he was.

Negreanu: {K-Clubs}{K-Spades}
Merson: {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}

The board ran out {2-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and Negreanu was knocked out in 14th place.

"I took some notes from you yesterday," Merson said with a smile to Ole Schemion who is sitting on his right.

"What?" Schemion responded, not understanding what Merson meant.

"Just cooler people," Merson said and Schemion started laughing.

Merson is now the tournament chip leader with just 13 players remaining.
