An Orbit w/ FTP Flipout Freeroll Winner Feliz Schulze

Nível 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Flipout Champ Felix Schulze
Flipout Champ Felix Schulze

Yesterday, Full Tilt Poker held a live Flipout freeroll inside Vienna’s stunning imperial Hofburg Palace. The promotion saw total entries peak at 184, though there were only 81 spots available. A dozen of those spots were reserved for the likes of Full Tilt Poker Professionals Gus Hansen and Viktor Blom; Full Tilt Poker Ambassadors Dermot Blain, Hana Soljan, Roberta Cezarescu and Andras Nemeth; Team PokerStars Pros Jan Heitmann and Marcel Luske; and Team PokerStars Online's Dale Philip, Mickey Petersen, Marc-Andre Ladouceur and Matthias Brandner.

The remaining 69 seats were determined by a random draw, and among those to win a spot were Kevin MacPhee, David Vamplew, and Steve O’Dwyer. All 81 players were competing for the first-place prize of an EPT Vienna Main Event seat worth €5,300.

According to FTP: "The first stage of the live Flipout freeroll saw players gather for an exciting sweat as three tables flipped at the same time (each player was automatically all in on the first hand) to produce three winners. This happened three times amidst much drama and fun – producing nine players in total, with a variety of online and live tickets on the line."

In the end, Felix Schulze beat Full Tilt Poker Tour Ambassador Andras Nemeth to win the seat; as such, the German is now in the Day 1b field. Here's a look at the FTP Flipout Freeroll results:

We recently caught up with Schulze over at Table 22, where he is sitting quietly with headphones on. Schulze had no choice but to gamble it up in the freeroll, but he appears to be taking a more cautious approach in the Main Event. That was evidenced when we spent an entire orbit watching the freeroll winner.

Hand #1 (Big Blind): Schulze began the orbit with 30,400 and ended up folding this hand after a player in early position opened for 400 and a middle-position player three-bet to 925.

Hand #2 (Small Blind): A player in middle position raised to 350, the cutoff called, and Schulze folded when it was his turn to act.

Hand #3 (Button): A middle-position player opened for 350 and Schulze folded.

Hand #4 (Cutoff): The hijack opened for 425 and Schulze folded.

Hand #5 (Hijack): Action folded to Schulze and he did the same.

Hand #6 (Middle Position): Schulze opened for 450 and received a call from the player in the small blind. Both players checked the {10-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} flop, and then did the same on the {7-Clubs} turn. Action went check-check for a third time when the {5-Clubs} completed the board n the river, and the small blind tabled the {a-Spades}{j-Spades}. Schulze showed the inferior {a-Hearts}{9-Spades} and watched the pot pushed to his opponent.

Hand #7 (Early Position): The under-the-gun player folded and Schulze did the same.

Hand #8 (Under the Gun): Schulze folded.

Not much happening for Schulze, who seems content to grind the day away.

Katchalov Pulls in a Nice Pot

Nível 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

With 5,125 in the pot and a board reading {j-Hearts}{a-Spades}{5-Spades}{j-Clubs}, Team PokerStars Pro Eugene Katchalov checked and watched YouTube gaming presenter CommanderKrieger and TV presenter/comedian Elton bet 2,000 from the cutoff. Katchalov made the call and then both players checked the {Q-Spades} river. Katchalov tabled the {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} for two pair, and it was good as Elton simply mucked.

Lodden Shows the Bluff

Nível 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

On a {5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{10-Spades} board there was already about 11,000 in the pot. Two players had checked to Team PokerStars Pro Johnny Lodden who fired out a 8,800 bet. The first player folded but Italian player Gerhard Mair made the call.

The river brought the {7-Spades} and it was checked to Lodden. He announced all in, effectively putting Mair to the ultimate test. Mair folded and Lodden raked in the chips.

Just at the moment we thought this wasn't all that interesting a hand, Lodden flipped over {J-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} for a total airball.

The Pros Fight it Out

Nível 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

The flop was {7-Spades}{q-Clubs}{3-Spades} and Swedish PokerStars player Carl Carlsson bet 750. Team PokerStars Pro Maxim Lykov made the call as did the big blind, fellow PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree. The turn card was the {7-Hearts} and when Boeree checked Carlsson continued for 2,150. Lykov folded but Boeree called and it was heads up.

The Fours is With McDonald

Mike McDonald
Mike McDonald

Mike McDonald, former EPT Dortmund winner and PCA Main Event runner-up, is working on an amazing year already with three seven-figure scores. Some might even say the force is with him.

Just now, towards the end of the first level, we saw McDonald play a small but interesting pot.

McDonald raised from late position to 450 and was called by the player in the big blind. The flop brought out {6-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} and both players checked.

On the turn the {A-Hearts} hit and McDonald's opponent bet 775. The Canadian pro made the call and on the river the {J-Clubs} popped up. This time McDonald faced a 1,175-chip bet and he called rather quickly.

The number three on the Canadian all-time money list was shown {3-Clubs}{3-Hearts} and that meant his {4-Hearts}{4-Clubs} were strong enough to take down the pot.

Wetemans Calls it Down

Nível 2 : 75/150, 0 ante

Dutch pro Jasper Wetemans was just spotted playing an interesting pot, which started out with a raise to 450 by Jens Schmieg. Wetemans made the call, as did Kitty Kuo from his left, and Maya Roca from the big blind.

The flop brought out {Q-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and Roca checked to Schmieg who bet 1,200 and Wetemans called. Kuo folded and Roca tanked for a bit before making the call as well.

On the turn the {5-Spades} hit and Roca checked again to Schmieg who bet 3,800 this time around. Wetemans took his time before calling and then Roca put in a check-raise to 10,600. Schmeig looked back down at his cards before folding and Wetemans quickly made the call.

On the river the {6-Hearts} hit and Roca went into the tank for about 30 seconds before he decided to check. Wetemans checked behind quickly and his {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} was good against Roca's {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}.

Blom Makes the Call

Nível 2 : 75/150, 0 ante
Viktor Blom
Viktor Blom

Viktor Blom, a Full Tilt Poker Professional, opened for 375 and found two callers in Ziga Jamnikar on the button and Jens Lakemeier in the small blind, both PokerStars players. Lakemeier had clashed with Blom quite frequently so far today with Blom generally getting the better of it. They saw a flop of:

{5-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}

Lakemeir checked and when Blom bet 500 Jamnikar folded and Lakemeir made the call. The turn card was the {4-Spades} and both players checked. The river card {3-Spades} then prompted Lakemeir to lead out for 700. Blom checked his cards again and threw out the call after some thought.

Lakemeir had the {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds} for the flush but was out pipped by Blom with the {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}.
